"This is the first Republican organization to get realigned back to constitutional conservative values," said Blaine Richardson. "To me, as Maine goes, so goes the rest of the nation. With the national Tea Party Movement, more states will follow Maine's lead."

pledging allegiance “not to a political party, but to the Constitution of the State of Maine and the Constitution of the United States of America,”

This is way too scary to contimplate!

and instead represented a set of values and principles that candidates could pick and choose from.

There’s your problem! When your State and National Constitutions are things you can pick and choose from.

Sweet! I see some very good things in that amendment! ESPECIALLY about being committed to the Constitution of Maine and the US Constitution. The part about State Sovereignty is awesome...

Congratulations to the hard-core Conservative Constitutionalists within the Maine GOP.

The comments from the establishment GOP members are very telling... Especially the one Representative that wanted to prevent it even being discussed! The comments from Snowe — well, what a surprise (NOT!).

ALL: THIS is how you affect change! REMEMBER — ALL politics is (ultimately) local(or in your state). What we do within our own states and in our communities WILL effect DC.

I pray that the Tea Party Movement will be able to affect these same changes across the country. It’s about time the RINOs became uncomfortable, and the GOP got back to the basics... May they all leave like Crist, because frankly, THEY are the ones that are making Conservatives lose elections (contrary to what the one delegate in Maine said). This is NOT political “suicide” this is what the nation wants — LEADERS who will respect the law of the land, not make deals and sell us out for their own personal or political gain.

We believe that English should be the official language of the State of Maine; and

· We support legislation that would require a photo identification to be eligible to vote in the State of Maine.

In a move that seemed to surprise many members of Maine's Republican Party, a group of tea party-style activists redefined the party platform at the convention Saturday.

Hopefully a lot of the professional party faithful will be surprised in the coming months.

“One highlight of the official platform that was adopted maintains that “state sovereignty must be regained and retained on all issues specifically relegated to the states by the Constitution.”

Just day-um. I picked the wrong time to retire from activism. I was often a delegate to the state convention - I shoulda got involved this year. That would've been the best one ever...

But I'm a great-granny. I pretty much confine myself to writing as a conduit to get out my opinion now.

But I would've loved to been there for this one - especially to talk with Snowe and Collins to see what they think about this move.

THIS if the kind of ‘clam diggers* on the ground’ we need to take back the party, the Constitution, the country.

This is the kind of ‘from the ground up’ strategy the socialist/Marxists used to take over the Democrat Party.

In the spring of 1980, as an investigative reporter for a state wide paper, I infiltrated a NO PRESS meeting, held in a little church literally in the shadow of our state capitol dome, of the DSOC (Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee.)

http://www.dsausa.org/dsa.html

Reagan had just whupped their hinies, and their white knight, teddy from Hyanisport, had not even won their party's nomination for that election. They had been poised on the precipice of victory and it had all gone down the drain.

The main speaker of the meeting was our then state Senate Majority leader. He stepped up to the podium, took a card from his pocket and said: “I, like you, am a card carrying Socialist...”

He went on to lament the losses and how they were now weakened to a point that they could not, as they had planned, come out publicly as Scoicalists. They would have to regroup and come up with a new strategy.

They outlined that as infiltrating and taking over the Democrat Party. The modus operandi would be to get into every village, town, city local party organizations and get elected to local party leadership and as delegates to the state conventions where they would have a major role in selecting and pushing candidates and platforms...and continue on up the political ladder.

Who can argue the success of their plan?

And this is the strategy that the Tea Party grassroots folk are - FINALLY - adopting. I am jumping for joy with this amazing success the very first year! If this carries thru’ a majority of states this year - look out Washington!

Pack your bags and get out of the way.

("*clam diggers" for you folk outta Maine - are boots used when clam digging and other mucky stuff.)

Snowe and other veteran Republicans at the convention said that the platform itself did not drive campaigns and instead represented a set of values and principles that candidates could pick and choose from.

That sounds similar to the socialist thinking the U.S. Constitution is a living breathing document giving them, in their own minds, justification to pick and choose or alter those parts that best fit their agenda.

“I believe that there are provisions in there that will scare off many independents who you need to win elections,” he said afterward. “It will make it very difficult for the majority of Republicans to win.”

Oh my, so now sticking to the Constitutuion will scare off independents? Then , so be it. We need to fight FOR the Constitution or go down trying. BTW, I hear Cost Rica is nice this time of year.

It’s nice to see a return to the constitution and rejection of progressivism. The awakening of the American Spirit has truly begun and marxism is on the run.

and here's our candidate for Governor - PAUL LaPage -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uu-N2FpwGDI

Literally a self-made man who worked his way up - now manager for Marden’s and Mayor or Waterville.

“People say you can't run a state like a business. I tell them that's baloney.”

Motto: “If it is to be, it's up to me”

If we win with this platform and this man for Governor - it will be a paradigm shift that will push the socialists off the cliff...

(Did you read item “j” of the Platform? I can hear the career politicians choking in horror ;o)

When asked about the evident rise of the Tea Party Movement in Maine, Snowe said that it was important for the state's Republican Party to work together.

"People are angry, and understandably so," she said. "The question is how do you channel that anger to be effective and successful at the polls?"

Two points: I can't recall any time in the last forty years that the Republicans have controlled the Maine Legislature; and what I've seen of the Maine party to date doesn't make me think that if they did control the Legislature they'd do anything with it besides extend the benefits of Big Government to an additional set of clients.

So, contra Snowe's implication that the changes are problematic, they may help Republicans to win and, more importantly, give some point to winning. They certainly aren't going to make the party any less effective.
