Washington (CNN) Sarah Palin broke ranks with the conservative movement on Thursday and endorsed former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina in California's Republican Senate primary, prompting a flurry of criticism from many of her loyal supporters.
After Palin announced the endorsement on her Facebook page, a number of her followers questioned why she would side with Fiorina instead of the more conservative candidate in the race, Assemblyman Chuck DeVore.
DeVore has the backing of several leading voices in the conservative movement, including Sen. Jim DeMint, RedState.com editor Erick Erickson and the Tea Party Express.
Though a handful of readers agreed with Palin's decision, most were upset.
"This is very, very disappointing," Rick Sheridan, one of her supporters, posted on Palin's page. "Sarah, you've got to be more careful. This woman does not represent conservative values. And the choice is so clear. Serious damage to your base here."
"Wow, Sarah...I'm saddened and shocked by your decision to endorse Carly Fiorina," commented another backer, Jennifer Goode. "Had you done your research, you would have found that Chuck DeVore is the ONLY true conservative in the California Senate race."

Well, that just makes her another Republican doesn’t it? I was looking for someone who stood up for their beliefs regardless or local politics.
Sorry Sarah, you continue to disappoint.
Perhaps her reasoning is to endorse the candidate she thinks will win so that when they do win she will be able to call back the favor.
Don’t you dare criticize Pat Buchannon! He’s our hero!
Don’t you dare criticize Alan Keyes! He’s our hero!
Don’t you dare criticize Newt Gingrich! He’s our hero!
Don’t you dare criticize Lindsey Graham! He’s our hero!
Don’t you dare criticize Mike Huckabee! He’s our hero!
Don’t you dare criticize Bob Barr! He’s our hero!
Don’t you dare criticize Michael Steele! He’s our hero!
Its good to look back sometimes at people that were once revered at FR only to slowly fade over time. Former “untouchables” that today many would be embarrassed to admit that they supported them.
Hero worship is never a good thing. All politicians should be open to questions about the decisions they make. I was an early Palin supporter here (many questioned who the heck that woman was who’s picture I kept posting-lol) but I don’t like this endorsement at all.
Look at who CA puts in office at the national level and tell me that conservates get elected.
It’s not a fail.
Palin is right. We can either support someone who actually has a chance at beating boxer...or we can support someone who has no chance at beating boxer...
I don't want to even tell my wife. She will be sincerely saddened by this news.
I think it aggravates Boxer’s supporters more than Palin’s...
Your disrespectful post gives you away.
A stupid move if she wants to keep alienating her already fading fanbase and still desires a future elective office.
What the people who commented on her website fail to understand is that Sarah was not asked to tell us “who the only true conservative” in the race was. She was asked to endorse a candidate. In other words, who do you want to win and face Boxer. Her endorsement seems perfectly fine to me. Fiorina might beat Boxer, that’s one more (albeit liberal) Republican in the senate where every single vote counts when it comes to majorities and filibusters. Fiorina is a lot better than boxer. I am not fan of Carly or Scott Brown but conservatives in CA and MA need to realize that in a statewide race that is the best your going to get. If you don’t like it move to non socialist state.—— I will now retire to my cave to be flamed.
I didn’t say “women supporting women”
I said it seems Sarah admires certain personal success stories over certain ideological purities
“I dunno, have you SEEN Carly? Dude looks like a lady!”
Chemotherapy is rough on everyone. Keep up the cancer jokes, they are hilarious.
Yeah...know the feeling. Have just about given up on all politicians these days. Where are our Statesmen? I really think that even those that go into politics end up corrupt in the end. I guess that means that our current system is out of control. What kind of government leaves it up to the Congress to change the laws to prevent corruption by them?
BECAUSE YOU ALL SNARK, BACKBITE, INSULT....I JUST DONATED FOR CARLY.
I’m not going to nickel-and-dime every endorsement from every potential Republican Presidential candidate. I like Palin, and I agree with her on most issues. I need not agree with every single endorsement she makes ... and I am quite sure Fiorina won’t come to mind when I’m in the ballot box in March of 2012.

You asked.....
What do you call a person who has a compulsion to get lymphoma over and over again? . . .
A lymphomaniac.
You fail to understand politics and are blinded by your unbendable convictions.
Remember, the goal is to win. With the Governor comes money and power. Winning in California trumps the pettiness of RINO accusations.
“Yeah, CA has such a record of conservatism that only out-of-touch people would assume that a conservative could not be elected there.”
You know you’re right. I mean we only elected Reagan as governor, whereas you gave us Dubya and LBJ.
Yes, I agree. She is getting conflicting recommendations from her would-be handlers. They are trying to mold her into Reagan’s 11th Commandment, and they neglect to realize some declared ‘Republicans’ aren’t worth supporting. It is a shame. She should fire who is advising her.
You tell that to Jesus if you ever get to see him.
