Washington (CNN) Sarah Palin broke ranks with the conservative movement on Thursday and endorsed former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina in California's Republican Senate primary, prompting a flurry of criticism from many of her loyal supporters.
After Palin announced the endorsement on her Facebook page, a number of her followers questioned why she would side with Fiorina instead of the more conservative candidate in the race, Assemblyman Chuck DeVore.
DeVore has the backing of several leading voices in the conservative movement, including Sen. Jim DeMint, RedState.com editor Erick Erickson and the Tea Party Express.
Though a handful of readers agreed with Palin's decision, most were upset.
"This is very, very disappointing," Rick Sheridan, one of her supporters, posted on Palin's page. "Sarah, you've got to be more careful. This woman does not represent conservative values. And the choice is so clear. Serious damage to your base here."
"Wow, Sarah...I'm saddened and shocked by your decision to endorse Carly Fiorina," commented another backer, Jennifer Goode. "Had you done your research, you would have found that Chuck DeVore is the ONLY true conservative in the California Senate race."

What’s her reasoning I wonder?
Sarah does what Sarah thinks is right, agree or disagree.
women supporting women....pathetic, really
Well, that just about guarantees Carly’s victory in the general against Boxer.
I suspect Barbara (”Call me Senator, General”) Boxer is none too happy with Sarah’s move.
I don’t think her endorsement is going to make that much of a difference. Carly’s nomination is not a lock
Carly is an empty-suit that Boxer will eat alive. Carly is unelectable.
It means Palin is more loyal to GOP elites than to the conservatives who think she is one of them.
She chose McCain over JD Hayworth in AZ. And now Carly Fiorina over Chuck Devore. Those who think that Palin is leading a conservative revival in the GOP need to pay attention to the choices that she is making.
Michelle Bachmann is looking better all the time.
Carly is a RINO at best.
Carly goes well with McCain and Romney, 2 more of her good buddies.
maybe she realizes that a hard right conservative will never get anywhere in california. maybe she understands that it may be best to endorse the most conservative candidate that “can possibly” be electable in a particular area.
I am surprised. The tea party endorsed DeVore and he is by far the most conservative in the race.
She may think he has no change so she is going with who she things is better between Fiorina and Campbell.
She is not all that conservative but not bad if Ca can send someone other than a socialist to the senate.
I would really like to see some of the more conservative states like ND, SD, MT, CO, NE, the whole south, .... elect real conservatives instead of the bring home the bacon socialist they normally elect.
That’s the sort of wisdom about California politics that we can expect to come out of Indiana.
“women supporting women.”
I dunno, have you SEEN Carly? Dude looks like a lady!
I guess Sarah admires her business background, like she admires Juan McCain’s military background
She marches to her own drummer, for sure
Palin endorses McCain now Firorina. Is a fan of Joe Klein.
Her apologists cannot claim loyalty.
Fifteen minutes of fame up sister.
“Women suporting women”.
I don’t buy this. Fiorina is a RINO indeed, but she’s much better than Campbell. From what I see. DeVore has no chance. I wish the polls were wrong, but they can’t be THAT incorrect. Bob

A smart move by Sarah.
