Sarah Palin Confronted Reporters at Time 100
NY MAGAZINE ^ | Wednesday May 5, 2010 | Daily intel

Bill Clinton and Prince may have been at last night's Time 100 gala, but the most buzzed-about guest by far was Sarah Palin (who, by the way, practically sat on her hands after Clinton gave a speech). Photographers, fans, and, yes, reporters like us swarmed her from the second she walked in the room with husband Todd and her 9-year-old daughter Piper. Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann practically jumped her for a photo op — though, granted, they did the same to Betty White.

Ten minutes of complete engulfment later, Piper was clinging to her mother, repeatedly asking if they could "leave already." Todd, for his part, was standing far away, obediently letting Sarah have the spotlight and plotting to help Piper "meet Taylor Swift; that's the No. 1 priority, to make Piper happy."

Sarah, on the other hand, was happy to be in a room with so many reporters — particularly Time's Joe Klein, of whom she is a fan — so she could set the record straight. "I did talk to a couple of reporters already and said that a bunch of stuff that they write is bogus, but we had a great conversation about it and we agreed to disagree on a lot of things," she said. "One thing we can all agree on, though, is how much we respect and want to protect the freedom of the press and we have that in common, so at the end of the day, I think as long as we’re protecting that and not abusing the right — we have to be writing truth — then we’ll get along just fine tonight."

Particularly, she wanted to clear up "the bogus reports about how much money I supposedly make," she said. "I have a business. I run a business with my speaker’s fee."

As if to drive home the point, Palin reiterated her great respect for journalism in her public "toast" to those who influence her, a Time 100 dinner tradition. "I want to make a toast to all at this press event who agree with Thomas Jefferson, who said that our liberty depends on the freedom of the press," she said. "So I want to lift a glass to those who defend that freedom. Our finest, the men and women in uniform who defend that freedom, our Constitution, and our exceptional way of life in America."

As she left the dinner, after watching a performance by Prince, Palin said she'd had a lovely time, both at the dinner and in New York. "Every time I’m here I have to go running in Central Park," she said. "I ran around an hour; I think I ran around the park a couple of times!" Todd told us he'd accompanied her, but could not recall how far Sarah had run in an hour. "You'll have to ask her," he said. "She jogs at a pretty good pace, so I guess a few miles." Who's faster, of the two? "It's not about being fastest. It's about who has the energy and can go the distance," said Todd, patiently standing to the side and watching Sarah, as usual. "One mile is good enough for me."

Larry King tried to bait Betty into saying something negative about Sarah but she wouldn’t. She explained to him that “crazy bitch” was the script she was given.

You’re right: there’s a gag going on, given Sarah’s hands!

She couldn’t possibly be a fan of Klein’s - just ask Katie Couric: Sarah doesn’t read. /s

She is one of “us” — as in, she is outside of the “elite.”

^^
Yep. Which is why they hate her.

re: Sarah Palin and Betty White

There was a heartwarming little sleeper of a movie released last year starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, with Betty White as Reynolds’ Alaskan grandmother.

The title of the flick was “The Proposal”, and most of the story takes place in Sitka, Alaska. What was noteworthy about it to me was how wonderfully wholesome, good and decent the people and culture of Alaska were portrayed, especially in contrast to New York culture. Betty White as the grandmother was a hoot!

I wonder if Palin ever saw the flick. If so, I’m certain she’d be pleased with how her beloved Alaska was depicted, and she’d love the Betty White character.

I actually asked her via Twitter if she saw it. Why? Because the movie wasn’t filmed anywhere in Alaska. It was filmed outside of Boston and mountain footage was spliced in. Never got a reply but I’m guessing the cost of getting a crew up there, etc. was too expensive.

Interesting photos of Sarah and Betty White. Looks like White was having a good time. So, I guess she’s not one of the Hollywood haters.

That movie, "The Proposal" --

When they need an actress to portray Sarah Palin, I vote for Sandra Bullock.

Betty is from the golden age in Hollywood when everyone one was conservative. She’s a national treasure, and I simply adore her!

UGH, I despise Tina Fey, and I hope the script for Betty doesn’t include mean lines about Sarah.

Yep, the scene with the male stripper was hilarious. I liked the movie and Betty White.

...Joe Klein, of whom she is a fan.... &&& Huh?

Sarah Palin is a very civil and polite person - she's had a good upbringing. I'd also think that if you are a politician you can't remain bitter and twisted about what people write about you politically. And you couldn't be the happy warrior she has obviously become again (thankfully, it's a winning way), if you took it all too personally. Palin draws the line at attacks against her kids. I doubt she forgets those that do that. As it should be.

She’ll likely talk about meeting her. Why do I get the feeling Sarah may surprise her on set??? Damn, that would be great. Though I also think its possible Sandra Bullock may make a surprise appearance- her first since becoming a mom, and dumping that jackass Jesse.

Sarah a fan of Klein’s not a snowball chance in h*ll.

From the Hannity interview last week.

HANNITY: You have Joe Klein, prominent writer, prominent news magazine, actually saying that you were rubbing right up to being close to “seditious” from TIME magazine, Joe Klein. . . . Look, I know you’re used to the attacks. Seditious? That is a serious charge. And I wanted to give you an opportunity, . . . to get your reaction.

PALIN: Yes, what a piece of work that Mr. Klein is for the piece that he wrote. That is something else.
You know you would hope that the powers that be at a, quote, unquote, reputable organization like TIME magazine that they would hold their employee — and I assume that Mr. Klein gets paid for the columns that he writes — that they would hold their employee accountable and they would actually ask him what is it that I or others in the conservative movement have said that would rise to the level of this inciting of violence and revolt and all these other things that evidently he claims.
For them to allow things like that to be printed just really discredits TIME magazine and other organizations that would allow that kind of rhetoric and false reporting, misreporting. They’re lies

I Can’t wait to call her Madame President!

Remember the frowns when Obama visited the Marines just after he was sworn in?

I’ll bet they’re grinning ear to ear when they get visited by President Palin! (that is if they’re not loudly hooping, and hollaring, and shouting oohrah!)

Any takers?
