I'm always entertained when older folks try to reach out to people my age. It's hardly ever a pretty sight and most of the time these attempts end up being hilarious. I found myself chuckling at Barack Obama's most recent effort to beg young voters to come out to the polls this November.
No one is buying it anymore, especially young people.
Even the most liberal of my generation are frustrated with the President... The radical environmentalists on college campuses across the country were furious when Obama opened up the coasts for limited drilling.
Young Americans are realizing they did not get the politician they bargained for.
Better yet, some of us are realizing that the Obama presidency is punishing our future. Down the road, we will be the ones forced to pay off the record-breaking deficits and debt that Obama's budgets and trillion-dollar spending programs are leaving us.
There is little doubt that Obama will have a hard time reconnecting with the new voters he had in 2008. While he may get the koolaid-drinkers, it appears most everyone else is dissatified with him and his policies.

Kool-Aid drinkers? Was this kid alive when Jonestown took place?
Hahaha! Those Obamistas are nuts! The price of gas is going to shoot up now. Watch gas go up to around $5 per gallon this summer.
What amazes me is the younger generation is supposed to be so media savvy yet many still get their news from very limited sources (AOL, SNL, Stewart, etc.). It's tough competing with news sources that pander to young interests... which at an age where you're not paying your own bills pretty much revolves around sex, drugs and rock and roll.
All those big numbers about debt and listening to people who say no all the time... it's like, just so boring! So they vote for the cool guy who promises ice cream for everyone. Yeah! Mean people suck!
With young liberals the most you can hope for is that they don’t come out to vote.
They are not going to get some flash that wanting other people’s stuff instead of getting your own is unethical and lazy. It will take longer to find conservative principles for them.
oooh, there's one to remember. Thanks!
I don't even want to think about it. :-((
I was talking with a liberal friend a couple of days ago and she went through a whole litany of things that were depressing her, even the health care thing. She clearly thinks we're headed in the wrong direction. She'll never vote Republican, but I'd say morale in the other camp is really low.
When a buddy complained last year that the price of his rollup tobacco had gone up at Walmart due to FedTaxes, I laughed, and said, well you voted for this - Obama said he was gonna raise tabak taxes!
Nonplussed, perplexed and unable to respond!
Kids see themselves getting shouted down by rabid leftists. Especially on forums (whether they be music, film, etc.). It becomes a big pecking party.
The silent majority keeps mum because the totalitarians on the Left don’t tolerate civilized debate and abide by the mantra “politicize everything”.
Every generation has to open their eyes for themselves. Don’t abide by an ideology because someone says “it’s the popular thing to do”, come around to it. Do the investigation. Kick the tires. But don’t just be critical of one ideology. It’s why antiAmericanism as espoused by Howard Zinn is dishonest. It shunned any discussion of where America excelled and does not address the sheer horrors of Socialist and Communist nations in that same timeframe. It’s what he wanted to replace our form of government with; if we are to have a debate, show me what you want INSTEAD.
Can they still by their hipster cloves with flavored tobaccos being outlawed?
I know Leftists who are upset that Health Care wasn't single payer. And then they get offended if anyone suggests that it may be in any way Socialist (even though European elites are HAPPY to see America going Socialized medicine).
They are intellectually dishonest.
Jonestown. Another pie in the sky socialist paradise from San Francisco and Democrats.
Maybe he read the article in Rolling Stone a few months back that said the same thing.
I didn't get into a debate but she likely falls in that camp.
I can easily see turnout down with the lefty base that depressed and indies deserting them in droves.
I just hope the country doesn’t implode with a conservative administration. The mindless zombies will immediately blame it on them rather than the Democrats.
“Too late dumbasses. The damage has already been done and the idiot young people will be paying for this long after us old gits are dead.Morons.The hope and change that destroyed America.”
Many of them will someday have children if not already. Then they will have to explain it all to them.
Any liberal who is upset because it isn’t “single payer” doesn’t understand the concept of a creeping tide of socialism. Incrementalism is the key. If it isn’t repealed in total, single payer is coming. Obama said that it may take 20 years to get rid of private insurance but that is the stated goal.
IF young people voted for Obama to "slap GWB around" (a ridiculous assumption on its face - they voted for an American Idol, cool black guy), it's only because they believed the incessant media lies about President Bush.
It's really time for you to move on, and put the blame where it belongs. President Bush is NOT responsible for "horrors." The American people made a bad choice based on bad information and gross stupidity.
Period.
I think the plan now is to let the costs go totally out of control to ramp up public support for a "public option" as a cheap alternative. It could work. We need to repeal that mess.
Maybe Obama can win them back by offering unlimited government employment in his “youth corps” program.
All they have to do is promise to campaign for him and his hand picked candidates, and vote (ala card check procedures) for only him and his cronies.
