PALM BAY, Fla. -- A local bank customer was hailed as a hero Thursday night for taking down a man who said he was down on his luck and he decided to commit a robbery.
Floyd Francis gave up instantly, police said, and he was taken to the Brevard County Jail.
"I drew my gun on him and put him down," Ruben Torres said.
In a hand-written confession, Francis said he tried to rob the Space Coast Credit Union in Palm Bay because he needed money.
He wrote, "I make music for a living, but tings not working out right now, so I went to rob this bank."
"He put a bag on his head," Torres said.
Torres said he instantly saw through the plot. While Francis was waiting in line at the credit union, he put a plastic bag on his head. Torres said he had time to go get his gun from his car.
"(Torres is) the hero of the day," said Steve Hill, of the Palm Bay Police Department.
Police said they don't recommend doing what Torres did, but they're glad it worked out.

‘tings’ are unlikely to improve for this perp.
Why is it....that they ALWAYS spout this crap after an armed citizen does exactly what he/she is SUPPOSED to do? Just chaps my hide. They should be kissing him on all four cheeks.
Question - was there a “no weapons” sign near the door?
If so, then it is obvious that the CCW guy shot an unarmed man, because we know that criminals always obey those signs.
In Ohio many if not all banks and credit unions put up the signs designating their premises as gun-free zones(as did libraries, and some stores like the UDF convenience stores.)Of course, the would-be robbers see the signs and turn away,right?...right????
“Police said they don’t recommend doing what Torres did”
Probably that’s just slant journalism. Slanty asks “do you recommend people do this captain?”, Captain has to say “well no not really but we’re very happy Mr Hero did in this case”
Never believe more than 5% of what you read...
smooth.
Police shoot far more innocent people per year than CCW holders. So, the idea that people should NOT get involved is pure BS.
The police simply want a monopoly on power. Nothing more, nothing less.
I’ve heard it said that bank robberies are the FBI’s bread & butter.
Definitely needed more cow bell.
Because an unarmed citizenry is job security for the police officer.
Francis said he tried to rob the Space Coast Credit Union in Palm Bay because he needed money. ... He wrote, "I make music for a living, but tings not working out right now, so I went to rob this bank."
Poor Floyd Francis.
Another 'victim' of the cutthroat Rap Music industry.
..................
He is damn lucky he met a criminal dumb enough to let him do this. The only thing worse than no gun is not having your gun when you need it. You'll spend the rest of your life regretting it.
Whoa!!!! Check out the video embedded in the article. Do my ears deceive me? If I heard this correctly, this genius named himself after “Jihad” (but with a “G”).
Rap? Naaaahhhh...
Straight from his MySpace page.
THUGCORE!! (he's on the right)
“He wrote, “I make music for a living, but tings not working out right now, so I went to rob this bank.”
He sounds like one of public skools finest products.
“for taking down a man who said he was down on his luck and he decided to commit a robbery.”
This reporter just can’t keep from trying to paint this robber as a victim. His university indoctrination is just so well ingrained, he can’t help himself.
“Why is it....that they ALWAYS spout this crap after an armed citizen does exactly what he/she is SUPPOSED to do? Just chaps my hide. They should be kissing him on all four cheeks.”
Think about it for a second. If criminals received a quick and harsh but just and fitting penalty associated with the crimes they commit, instead of getting slaps on the hand, this would reduce the recidivism rate significantly.
Less crime means less money for law enforcement, lawyers, judges, corrections officers, parole officers, prison construction firms, and others within the big businesses of criminal justice system and the prison industries.
It’s actually in the best interest of the above people to help perpetuate crime in order to promote job security for themselves.
