I thought that was just Spokane?
I guess we need to get rid of all ocean water too then.
Already used that crap, and it’s just that!
I wonder then where you can get phosphate to add ...
Why I am in favor of phosphates being removed from detergents (the phosphate mines at Bartow, FL are our only national supply):
Phosphorus Famine: The Threat to Our Food Supply
Consumption; Demand; Pricesvox_mundi writes “
As complex as the chemistry of life may be, the conditions for the vigorous growth of plants often boil down to three numbers, say, 19-12-5. Those are the percentages of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, prominently displayed on every package of fertilizer. In the 20th century the three nutrients enabled agriculture to increase its productivity and the worlds population to grow more than sixfold. But what is their source? We obtain nitrogen from the air, but we must mine phosphorus and potassium. The world has enough potassium to last several centuries. But phosphorus is a different story. Readily available global supplies may start running out by the end of this century. By then our population may have reached a peak that some say is beyond what the planet can sustainably feed.
Moreover, trouble may surface much sooner. As last years oil price swings have shown, markets can tighten long before a given resource is anywhere near its end. And reserves of phosphorus are even less evenly distributed than oils, raising additional supply concerns. The U.S. is the worlds second-largest producer of phosphorus (after China), at 19 percent of the total, but 65 percent of that amount comes from a single source: pit mines near Tampa, Fla., which may not last more than a few decades. Meanwhile nearly 40 percent of global reserves are controlled by a single country, Morocco, sometimes referred to as the Saudi Arabia of phosphorus. Although Morocco is a stable, friendly nation, the imbalance makes phosphorus a geostrategic ticking time bomb.
They have reformulated some Cascade already. Look for black stains on your silverware that do not come off.
We have the right to pump as much and as many phosphates into anything we want...what’s this country coming to?
Good move. The stuff is nasty.
I wondered what had changed. Everything in the dishwasher had white residue all over it.
Stock up now! They did this in CA didn’t they and they were crossing the borders for phosphate IIRC.
Well, yes... on with better substitute alternatives. Perhaps carbon trading is not so important for survival in the CO2 data corrupted world, while phosphate clearly is, and alternatives are warranted.
However, phosphates must be mined as there are no other ways to get it. Alternatives must encompass only substitutes for phosphates. We need better substitutes than the ones presently used.
Unmentioned are world military uses of phosphates...their use is increasing.
In sum, no alternates for phosphate exist..it is produced only by mining. Only substitutes must be considered and developed. Phosphate cannot be manufactured.
Time your dishwasher and put about 1/4 cup white vinegar in the rinse...sparkling dishes, I’ve been doing thid for years because we have such hard water, and it’s cheaper than the dishwasher rinses.
Prices of phosphate has doubled in two years, and will double again in short order,
phosphate is too important to be used for the vanity of the middle classes. It will be used to feed your family instead.
Expect EPA storm troopers to be breaking down your door looking for incandescent light bulbs, illegal high flush toilets and now phosphates. I wonder if they will also be asking for our papers?
OMG, this is the reason I am having to run the dishwasher twice, first with the detergent and then again just cycle through with water only.
If you hit Costco in the next few days, you should be able to score a pallet of the old stuff that will keep your dishes sparkling for a century...
Then again, you could always try the old standard elbow grease. Who needs a dishwasher if they have kids??
Yes but with all the dissolved Ritalin and other calming drugs in the water system would that not compansate
I just checked my dishwasher soap, Finish.
It still lists the phosphates, 8.7% by weight, 1.8 grams per tablet.
I hate Cascade.
