Rare Vanity, Arizona Immigration Law
Vanity | 4-26-2010 | self

Posted on 04/26/2010 11:55:35 AM PDT by Melas

Ok, a rare vanity from me, because I'm trying hard to understand something, and failing miserably.

As most of the folks who routinely post on immigration know, I'm far from xenophobic, racist, or isolationist. As a matter of fact, I'm usually the first to bristle at broad sweeping proposals that would target Hispanics en masse with the hope of finding illegals amongst them.

However, I'm not getting the problem with Arizona's shiny new law. It amounts to nothing more than a question upon reasonable suspicion, and then those who are found to be here illegally are handed over to the INS. What is the problem here? Aren't illegals supposed be handed over to the INS?

If I'm wrong, and citizens and legal residents who happen to be Hispanic are unfairly burdened or harassed, I'll apologize, but I don't see it in the text of this bill.

Wrong place to ask the question. Try Al Sharpton's office.

IMO the yelling an screaming is about employers that use the illegals to pad the bottomline.
or the underground economy of fake docs, human smuggling and the REAL target of this law to get at the illegal drug and slavery trade.

In Houston an issue is smuggling women into brothels.
Why do you think Acorn didn’t have a problem with a loan for a brothel.
Illegal immigration is inhumane and disgustingly cruel.

I'm a Latina and I don't see a problem with this bill!

There are two kinds of immigration: legal and illegal. Illegal immigrants should be sent back to their countries. America has the right to defend her borders and enforce law. This bill is a step in the right direction, I think.

There is no problem with the AZ law....it is almost a carbon copy of the Federal Law passed in 1996...which allows non-Federal law enforcement to question, detain, and arrest illegals.

The media is pro-Illegal Alien/Anti-American....and are blowing this out of proportion. Illegal Aliens, and their supporters have quite a bit to fear, because no longer will Arizona be a place to live....or a place to stage illegal border crossings.

I always say “Illegal Alien Amnesty is Anti-American Bigotry”...and the actions of the media and Hispano-Racists groups have proved me correct the past few days...

The Left is prognisticating that the authority to discern reasonable suspicion will be stretched to law abiding latinos who will be falsely arrested and tainted as secondary citizens.

The Left will in the next months hear of or even contrive a case where a legal resident is arrested and incarcerated. The MSM will swerve into full campaign mode and use it to shame the right wing.

Starting to get the picture?

What the right needs to do is to round up hundreds and thousands of illegals, hand them over to Immigration and shine a bright light on what Immigration does with them.

The Right needs to be wary of suspected illegals that are actually legal posing as illegals.

It is a delicate situation. AZ police should have a good means of verifying from their own electronic links to verify status, record all answers to questions and ensure that a legal posing as an illegal is outed before they have a chance to score propaganda points.

You don't get the objections to AZ's immigration law and I don't get your objections to profiling. It's not America's shame that people have to be profiled, the profiling is a result of criminal activity. That's why criminal activity is bad.

It is a law ... first of its kind to come down the pike.

It is seen as the first of if it goes non-protested then other states will do likewise. If we enforced the laws we already have it would be unnecessary to pass more. the border is not closed. there are sanctuary cities, etc.
Where I live in West Texas every single school in town is now more than 50% Hispanic students, . It has been necessary to add on to every single schools at all levels. Amazing by the time the new construction is finished it almost over flowing again. It is a BIG problem. Daily their are about 60-75% of criminal activities are bu Hispanics, New Jails have had to be built, our medical system (emergency room( is full and the waiting room is overflowing constantly. We have gangs now increased. All crime is up.Many so called hungry are coming to all the churches,,, etc. I know I see some that have cell phones, big shiny cars/trucks, beautiful false fingernails, etc. Stuff that cost a lot to do and they come for electric bill or rent, etc. It is maddening. The money they make they spend on trifles and then they come begging.

It is a big/huge problem. Homeowners pay for a large part of welfare through increased taxation on their homes.

God help us in our day, in Jesus name.

What is the problem here? Aren't illegals supposed be handed over to the INS?

The problem is that ICE doesn't want to have to deal with it. If Arizona hands over more and more illegal aliens, what is ICE going to do with all those people, release them? Deport them? Jail them?

They'd rather not have to address it at all.

It really comes down to me that you, me and other people probably work hard to take care of yourself and your family.

I do not want my money taken in taxes to provide ENDLESS benefits to people who are here illegally. I do not care what their race or ethnicity is. The real key is to cut off benefits so people go back home but the Dems fight that every step.

What really angers me is Mexico and other countries treat their people like garbage and expect Americans to provide a home plus endless freebies to these invaders. Mexico and other countries scream racism when we object.

I think the discomfort is with the phrase ‘reasonable suspicion’. What constitutes reasonable suspicion?

Right at the bottom of this issue is a question. Does the person who is stating a position want to export illegal invaders or do they want them to stay right here. I do wish to establish a secure border. I honestly believe that being a US citizen has value and should not be just given away to people who break the laws of our nation. I do believe in America for Americans. I do believe that Mexico should be for Mexicans.

If I'm looking for illegal people from Latin America then I need to look at brown people. If I'm looking for illegals from Ireland then I need to look for white people who talk with an accent.
But back to the question. If you want to see a strict border policy take a look at how Mexico treats illegals on her southern border. Maybe we should learn from them.

My sister, a liberal, argues that stopping illegals will result in the price of produce skyrocketing. I said, "so you're saying that you approve of slave labor if it keeps the price of lettuce down."

Illegal immigration isn't really good for anyone. It allows people who haven't been screened for serious diseases, criminal history, etc. to enter the US. It facilitates the flow of illegal drugs into the US. It casts a shadow on legal immigrants. It costs taxpayers jobs and money.

"I'm a Latina and I don't see a problem with this bill!"

I suspect any sane Hispanic would feel the same way. The covert (and not so covert) flaunting of the rule of law isn't good for ANYBODY, even the illegals in the long run. What good does it do to move to the US, and have it morph into Mexico???

The Arizona law is, I suspect, not as strict as the laws Mexico has passed to slow or stop the flow of "migrants" through THEIR southern border, from countries in Central America.
