New York Senator Chuck Schumer harshly criticized the Obama Administration's attempts to exert pressure on Israel today, making him the highest-ranking Democrat to object to Obama's policies in such blunt terms.
Schumer, along with a majority of members of the House and Senate, signed on to letters politely suggesting the U.S. keep its disagreements with Israel private, a tacit objection to the administration's very public rebuke of the Jewish State over construction in Jerusalem last month.
But Schumer dramatically sharpened his tone on the politically conservative Jewish Nachum Segal Show today, calling the White House stance to date "counter-productive" and describing his own threat to "blast" the Administration had the State Department not backed down from its "terrible" tough talk toward Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Schumer, a hawkish ally of Israel since his days as a Brooklyn Congressman, described "a battle going on inside the administration" over Middle East policy.
"This has to stop," he said of the administration's policy of publicly pressuring Israel to end construction in Jerusalem.
"I told the President, I told Rahm Emanuel and others in the administration that I thought the policy they took to try to bring about negotiations is counter-productive, because when you give the Palestinians hope that the United States will do its negotiating for them, they are not going to sit down and talk," Schumer told Segal. "Palestinians dont really believe in a state of Israel. They, unlike a majority of Israelis, who have come to the conclusion that they can live with a two-state solution to be determined by the parties, the majority of Palestinians are still very reluctant, and they need to be pushed to get there.
"If the U.S. says certain things and takes certain stands the Palestinians say, 'Why should we negotiate?'" Schumer said.

There has to be more to the story.
Political theater. Or some big donor threatened to stop payment.
Schumer needs to get used to it with the Muslim in Chief in office.
Give is a break, Chuckie, what did you expect from a closet muslim?
If this is what the letter said, Schumer has no spine. The disagreements (and agreements for that matter) should be out in the open. The Obama administration policies should change so that there are far fewer disagreements with the Israelis.
Basically, Schumer is saying, "I'm ok with your dissing Israel. Just keep it private. We don't want to rile up a block of dem voters."
Chuckie is going down as the Jewish vote will castrate in NYC if Obummer doesn’t change his Israel stance.
Zer0 will send Chuck U to the showers when he is no longer useful.
“counter-productive” is much too gentle.
obama (well, his handlers ayers and soros) is antisemitic and will not rest until Hitler’s dream of Jewish extinction is complete. The new fuhrer is almost indistinguishable from the 1930s version.
Oh, but Chuckie, you supported the Big O...
Jew Pandering. Since when has the DNC ever been a friend of Israel?
Pray for America
He wants to be able to eat lunch in NYC again.
Is this the first time (2010 incumbant relection campaigner) Senator Schumer has criticized Obama’s policies toward Israel or any of America’s other allies as being “counter productive”?
If so, I wonder what was his first clue?
It will stop when Chuckie and his friend in the WH are both thrown out of office.
Just wear the party’s anti-Israel shoe and love it Chuckie, it fits.
Up chuck must have Os permission to be critical- a CYA move!
PLEASE!! The Jewish Dems will vote for anyone who is a DEMOCRAT...PERIOD!!! They could BOMB ISRAEL and the Jews would STILL vote for the DEMS!!!
He has no spine, even if that isn't what the letter said. He does, however, appear to have brass balls.
Schumer did everything possible to undermind all the Republicans from Presidents on down who made us Israel’s greatest defender and ally. He is no better than Carter and Obama, and since it took him this long to respond it shows that he’s more concerned with offending Zero and Hillary.
Probably that.
This is Chuckie Cheese posturing. He made these comments on a radio show you couldn’t find with the help of the NSA. 91.1 in NYC is down among all the college stations and you may find it by accident if you overshoot WFUV. These comments never made local media and I doubt many NY voters read Politico. Schumer can tell Koch “Hey I spoke up.” and he can tell Obama “Don’t worry, no one heard me.”
Is this correct? I have a hard time believing Schumer was ever hawkish about anything.
