ARIZONA DAILY STAR Bailey Stephen Harn, Eagle Scout
Bailey Stephen Harn, 14, has earned the Boy Scouts' highest rank of Eagle Scout. Only 4 to 5 percent of youth who join Scouting earn this honor.
Celebrating his achievement, an Eagle Court of Honor will be held at 10 a.m. May 1 at the North Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 939 W. Chapala Drive.
Bailey is a member of Boy Scout Troop 232 of the Catalina Council, Old Pueblo District.
An eighth-grader at Cross Middle School, he is the son of Steve and Wendy Harn and big brother to Brody, Brayden and Britney.
In addition to earning 22 Scout merit badges and completing an extensive leadership-based community Eagle project, Bailey is completing two high school credits, is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, plays piano, has an extreme passion for basketball and plays soccer.
More than 75 volunteers contributed 235 hours toward Bailey's Eagle Scout project of completely reorganizing 37,000 books in the Cross/Harelson School Library.
My oldest will earn his Life rank before his 14th birthday; he is only lacking his time requirement. If he stays on top of things, he should earn his Eagle sometime in the next year. His brother is a Tenderfoot, and two years younger.
Woot! Gratz, Bailey, what an achievement! We need more like you!
Congratulations to this young man.
Look well, people. I fear Eagle Scouts may disappear from the list of accomplishments the successful men point to. He may be a disappearing breed.
This government hates the Boy Scouts of America, and is doing everything it can to disable, discredit and destroy this fine organization.
As Will Rogers said; “There’s only one thing wrong with the Boy Scouts.. there aren’t enough of them.”
What is that??
Really good, this kid did Eagle at 14!!! Know his parents are proud.
Am an Eagle Dad, not Eagle myself. Eagle DOES make a difference in a kids future.
Makes me wonder... <<<
LOL....Hint: His father was/is a “wantabee”....
I'm watching it happen for the 2nd time in this small town...(not to mention his father is the leader)
Congratulations to him! We have our fifth eagle scout finishing up his project next month. It does wonders for them!
The older ones are all conservative too!
In my opinion, the Scoutmaster should have made him wait longer. Most scouts his age are not ready to lead. When they get it that young they are usually “pushed” by their parents. I received mine at the age of 16. I had already served a SPL. I see too many of these “fast-track” Eagle Scouts in my area. I still congratulate the young man.
Thanks, truthkeeper. I did a little more thinking and realized it was 1969, not 68. I had just turned 14!
Well, that would explain it. :)
Good on you! I was a Tiger leader and was thrilled to see one of “my boys” make it to Eagle at 15. (Unfortunately, it wasn’t my own kid...he just didn’t have that kind of stuff.)
Our son and Eagle was in critical care after his disasterous 2004 accident.

I wanted the doctor to know our son (even though he was in a coma) and do everything he could to save him. I mentioned that he was an Eagle scout and the doctor replied that so was he and his sons. This man worked around the clock to save our son and succeeded. He puts his Eagle rank on his job resume (as do I) and he just accepted a position at Facebook after his recovery and lengthly rehab.
Our son’s project was to install a handicap parking zone at a church — as a ironic twist, he now has such a placard.
What a great story. Kudos to you and your brave son.
Eagle is like being a Marine, its for life.
Congratulations to him. Well done.
To address those that put this in the ‘too young’ category, as long as he has learned, can apply and can convey to others the necessary skillset, age should not be a barrier. The sooner more examples like this young man are visible to others the better for us all collectively. I pray for 100,000 more like him giving great example and soon. America has perhaps never needed it more.
