It looks like somebody is going to have to update the Waco Siege page on Wikipedia. Apparently the whitewashed history that former President Bill Clinton would like us to believe regarding the 1993 federal assault on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas, is missing important details regarding his own personal involvement.

In response to Bill Clinton’s highly publicized linking of the Tea Party movement to the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing in an op-ed piece for the New York Times, former Clinton adviser Dick Morris disclosed on Monday that it was Clinton himself, and not Attorney General Janet Reno, as Americans have been led to believe for the past 17 years, who called the shots during the 1993 botched invasion that led to the death of seventy-six people.

I published several photos of the crater in my section of the OKBIC Final Report.

Some conspiracy wackos claimed that there was no crater there on the first day, and that the FBI dug a hole there with a backhoe later. BULL! (I figured that was the wild goose you were chasing...)

Below is a frame grab from a news video posted here on FR yesterday. Not more than 10-15 minutes after the blast, as soon as the news 'copter swung around the east end of the MB, there was the crater in the street -- as plain as could be:

The white ring around the crater gives an exaggerated imprssion of its size, There was a ring or berm of white debris well outside and surrounding the actual crater,

The reason the crater didn't show up on aerials or photos from the Regency Towers (to the west) later in the first day was because it became camouflaged:

A broken water line on an air conditioning chiller uphill from the crater filled it with (red) muddy water, and debris floating on the water made it appear that there was no crater there when photographed from above or backlighted by the western sun.

In that photo, you can also see the surrounding debris berm that exaggerated the visible size of the crater in some photos.

Aside from telling you that the maximum diameter of the crater was 18 (eighteen) feet, what else do you think you need to know?

True. I guess it is a risk the LE have evaluated, and still considered LIFE more important.

The arrest warrant was based on federal firearms charges, but the search warrant was based - in part - on an affidavit from a UPS driver that attested he saw grenades in a box that he delivered to the compound.

Empty grenades. According to the warrant, there were enough explosives and weapons at the compound to make another Barringer Crater.

I don't think I said that, or at least didn't intentionally say that. The feds had arrest warrants for Koresh, and perhaps another Davidian. They also had a search warrant for the compound.

What part of "government cover up" don't you understand? Brigadier Gen. Benton K. Partin didn't publish this on the internet. He submitted his findings to the government and they ignored it. He had 30 years of experience in explosives engineering.

That may all be true. Koresh might have really been trying to ensure that no one could come after him for his trangressions. However, the Russians had a school full of children taken over by terrorists. Did the Russians set the school on fire?

Was a highly flammable, highly painful, inflammatory tear gas necessary?

The tanks could have dispersed any chemical. Like one that puts people to sleep, instead of one that maims them?

I said in my very first post on this thread that the "raid" was terribly mishandled.

It wasn't "mishandled" it was corrupt from the start.

But, the feds were ENTIRELY justified in executing a search warrant of the compound - a compound that the feds themselves believed to be holding an arsenal of weapons, including grenades.

Funny, the warrant was based on illicit drug use not weapons charges or child abuse. They didn't even have hearsay evidence of that they made it up out of whole cloth.

I have said, the operation was poorly managed. Also, I think that the Army tanks dispersing any chemical agent - to include either CS or CN gas - is a violation of the Posse Comitatus Act, which is why I said earlier that Clinton himself probably violated federal law. Those tanks could be used to carry agents to the target, and perhaps even used to breach the walls (although that would be debatable), they could not be used in an offensive manner. Dispersing gas is clearly offensive.

Tear gas (CS gas) can be flammable. I wouldn't characterize is as "highly flammable". LE agency all across the country have protocols in place for inserting gas into dwelling. The risk of fire is outweighed by the tactical advantages of the gas, and ultimately it's safer for everyone.

This standoff went on for 8 weeks. How long should law enforcement have to wait?

They started the whole Ruby Ridge business by putting a federal agent at a meeting of a group that Weaver belonged to and then the agent tried to get Weaver to modify a gun for him.

Weaver didn't even belong to any "group." The FBI enlisted him to attend a get together of some white supremacist group to get intel. He never belonged to it.

I don’t consent to your claims on thousands of executed warrants. I also don’t see how it responds to gitmo or a range of islamic conciliatory gestures which are never challenged as church state wall breaches. The federal government executed it’s warrants in a facially absurd manner. It is textbook on what not to do. Local law enforcement would have and should have been allowed to do better.

The left wants to construct Christians as dangerous and Muslims as innocent victims. American soldiers Are anti Muslim bigots worthy of all violent resistance. That is how the left frames Thjis discussion.
