JERUSALEM Israel must recognize that the world will not put up with decades more of Israeli rule over the Palestinian people, the country's defense minister said in unusually frank remarks Monday.
Ehud Barak's comments, on the occasion of Israel's Memorial Day, come against the backdrop of severe friction between the U.S. and Israel's hawkish government over an impasse in peacemaking....
...."But we also shouldn't delude ourselves," he added. "The growing alienation between us and the United States is not good for the state of Israel."
The way to narrow that gap is to embark on an Israeli diplomatic initiative "that doesn't shy from dealing with all the core issues" dividing Israelis and Palestinians, he said.

While anexation, as we did in the Southwest, would be an option, there has never been an Israeli government that took that position. Since the position of every government since 1967 has been withdrawl from much of the West Bank, it’s reasonable to assume that will be the final result. In the absence of a negotiating partner, I think a unilateral declaration of what is Israel and what isn’t is preferable to neverending negotiation and pressure from the US and the Euros, but that’s only my opinion.
If Israel declares what is Israel, no one will accept it. They could give up everything but 1 square mile and as long as there was a single Jew still living there, it would not be enough for the arabs. And if it isn’t enough for the arabs, it will not be enough for the world.
The whole thing is to rid the region of JEWS. Remember what the place that is NOW Israel was like when they first returned after the war. It was barren and desolate. And that is what it would be again.
Everything Israel has conceded has reverted to the stone age. Israel made the Land green. The arabs have made it rubble.
I suspect the US and Euros would accept something resembling the 2000 or 2008 maps. Continued negotiation won’t result in anything better, likely worse, and Barak is correct, the status quo probably won’t last another 2 decades
*** that. You mean, like the Clinton works? Here's the deal: you cannot have treaties with arabs. They are genetically unable to stick to an agreement.
The only way to deal with muslims is to remove them. Or they will remove you.
Why do you come to Free Republic if you feel we are libelous and so hard on American Jewry?
Certainly it isnt we who helped elect Obama who hates Jews. Its isnt we at Free republic who helped elect Hillary after she called them those F’in jews.
I have nothing against jews myself ,I just cannot understand what they have against themselves.
Perhaps Ehud Baraks patriotic credentials are 100%, if so then he needs to rethink the plan he has to give up even one inch of what Israel has. It hasnt worked before and it will never work. The Palestinians arent interested in taking back land they want dead Jews.
Your opinion of whether I should or shouldn't post here is of no concern to me.
As to I have nothing against jews myself, I just cannot understand what they [Jews] have against themselves., they've nothing against themselves. You're projecting your hostility onto others, in this case the object of your scorn, Jews.
And I stand by my statement that I used to wonder why American Jews hated Israel and voted to put anti-semites like Obama in office. Now I realise that some Jews in Israel hate their country too. is a libel.
That's your opinion, it's not the opinion of the vast majority of Israelis. Who've lived with a 20% Muslim population since they became a state. You separate the palestinians, if Israel has an enemy next door, she deals with it. It's not as though Lebanon is a friend.
Good for you stick to that. I am happy for you.
Actually not, it's the sum total of historical record. What we call "empirical evidence".
it's not the opinion of the vast majority of Israelis
That's regrettable, if correct, because that means Israel is doomed and most of her people will shortly die at the hand of Obama and his arab friends.
Are you sure? Other Freepers tell me he's going to round up American Jews first.
Pay attention "Venturer" (whom I doubt has ever ventured far away from his keyboard)
"During his service as a commando in the elite Sayeret Matkal, Barak led several highly acclaimed operations, such as: "Operation Isotope", the rescue mission to free the hostages onboard Sabena Flight 572 at Lod Airport in 1972; the 1973 covert mission Operation Spring of Youth in Beirut, in which he was disguised as a woman in order to assassinate members of the Palestine Liberation Organization; Barak was also a key architect of the June 1976 Operation Entebbe, another rescue mission to free the hostages of the Air France aircraft hijacked by terrorists and forced to land at the Entebbe Airport in Uganda. These highly acclaimed operations, along with Operation Bayonet led to the dismantling of Palestinian terrorist cell Black September."
With five of Isarael's highest commendations for valor and courage, Ehud Barak is the most decorated soldier in IDF history. But obviously, if Venturer says someone "hates their country" then it must be true. I look forward to you posting your record of distinguished service to the United States, so we can see what the service record of a GENUINE PATRIOT like Venturer looks like.
The first treaty in United States history was with Muslims.
The Barbary critters? We all know how well that went, don't we? You're making my point for me.
A bunch of pirates (Barbary), if I recall correctly. The point of which is what? You like treaties with pirates?
