This is an updated list of Tax Day Tea Party attendence. If you attended an event that is not on the list, please add your totals in this thread and I'll update later.
Also, please ping any contacts who may have been to a Tea Party that is not on this list.
I know that I'm missing several (including DC!).
Current totals: 53 cities, total attendence 111,345.
According to a newspaper account, there were 300 at the Joliet Illinois rally. Looked like more than that to me.
Also, the Homer/Lockport Tea party had a rally last Saturday, estimated attendance 2,000.
Generally estimates from FReepers who were there with the occasional link to local media guestimates.
This movement will not sustain itself for any length of time without organization and leadership. And it is going to take years to turn this country around (if it can be done at all). Right now the movement has momentum and the rats are obligingly adding to this with their serial idiocy. But the intensity cannot be sustained indefinitely and the anger and frustration need focus. And as the rats are turned out of office the provocations will very likely become less intense and there will be great temptation to return to complacency.
There needs to be a platform around which people can rally and around which a coherent message can coalesce. Leadership and organization are needed to keep people engaged and focused. The problem is how to do this and avoid creating an entrenched elite that ultimately succumbs to the complacency and “go along to get along” mentality that afflicts so many in the GOP? I would suggest term limits and make the terms no more than 2 years in length to coincide with the election cycles. And bar anyone who has held a leadership position from holding another for at least 2 years. Also if there is a party HQ - and I assume there would be one - it might be a good idea to shift it around every so often - have it in Kansas City for 4 years then move it to Phoenix for the next 4 then to St. Paul and so on.
When you look in the dictionary for the definition of “teabagger”, that’s what you’ll see. LOL!
Medford, Oregon “the crowd numbered 700 at the height of the rally.......None of the protesters interviewed for this story saw any evidence of trickery in Alba Park. Medford police officers who monitored the event said there were no reports of violence or threats.
“There hasn’t been any of that here,” Morton said. “Our gatherings usually are pretty civil. Just good people with something to say.”[snip]

And the little town of Yreka, Ca...6 showed up...most went to Medford.
Atlanta, GA, at the capitol. 3000 reported in the AJC, which means there were probably 5000-6000, based on their estimates of conservative crowds in the past.
Metairie, Louisiana - 500
according to nola.com
Duluth Minnesota, 1800.
Militant
Not really the thread to get involved in the subject of term limits, but the scariest thing Dumb0 ever said was that he didn’t care about being a one term president. This simply means that he has absolutely no reason to care about what the country wants since he has resigned himself to losing in 2012. Why care about what voters think if you are not up for re-election?

Sadly, I was not able to make it to the local Ocala, FL Tea Party on The Square. I had to go meet my daughter’s school dean (she wants to be a cheerleader . . . my daughter, not the dean . . .). The Square itself is not very big, maybe could hold a thousand people, but more like 500 comfortably. I’m trying to dig up info on what happened, but our local paper, the Star Banner, is owned by NYT . . . .
New Haven, CT = 500
The Ocala Star Banner (NYT) has briefly reported that there were about 100 people at the Tea Party on The Square yesterday. It’s buried in a “photo op” spread of 4 pictures showing close-ups only with one slightyly wider angle view of people holding signs. No story, no info. I’m sure the Star Banner (NYT) wants the Tea Party to die, quickly. They though a story on sotomayer here in Florida would be a much more interesting story. Hey, you know, that’s what the Star Banner and the NYT print: stories!
We had the main rally here in Kansas City in Kansas City, Kansas which had 10,000 people at the Comerica Ballpark
And in Missouri 60 people were at smaller event in the Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri which was at noon which the second one was later in the day.
I know Topeka and Manhattan, Kansas had rallies too.

This is the count thread from last year.
Figures ended up needing to be in an excel form
‘Henchster’ did a great job organizing the list

When I suggested term limits I meant for any Tea Party leadership that might arise. I wasn’t referring to any other positions or offices. Though I would like to see term limits on all elected offices and on the federal judiciary.
