For some reason this morning, there's a big rumor going around that President Obama has cancelled National Day of Prayer 2010, scheduled for May 6. It's not true, despite what your search engine and e-mails tell you.

If he had it would have been big news.
Yep, he has invited Wiccans, Muslims, and Unitarian Universalist priests. At least that is the rumor I am starting.
How would we know if he canceled it or not?
It’s not a crisis of biblical proportions, but President Obama’s plan to recognize the National Day of Prayer on Thursday with a paper proclamation, rather than a public event at the White House, is ruffling some religious feathers.
“We are disappointed in the lack of participation by the Obama administration,” Shirley Dobson, chairwoman of the National Day of Prayer Committee, said in a statement. “At this time in our country’s history, we would hope our president would recognize more fully the importance of prayer.”
The Interfaith Alliance couldn’t disagree more.
“It is a shame that the National Day of Prayer Task Force seems to think it owns the National Day of Prayer,” the group’s president, the Rev. C. Welton Gaddy, said in a statement.
“Once again, the Task Force is misrepresenting the purpose of this national observance,” he said. “President Obama is not the Pastor-in-Chief of the nation and Shirley Dobson’s Task Force is not the spiritual judge of the president’s personal or official actions.”
He didn’t cancel it last year, but he didn’t observe it, either, OR host it in the White House. The lead paragraphs from the Washington Times a year ago:
President Obama is distancing himself from the National Day of Prayer by nixing a formal early morning service and not attending a large Catholic prayer breakfast the next morning.
All Mr. Obama will do for the National Day of Prayer, which is Thursday, is sign a proclamation honoring the day, which originated in 1952 when Congress set aside the first Thursday in May for the observance.
Because it would be a major deal and at least one legitimate newspaper would report it.
Fox
Not yet that is...

Easy to spot that rumor....
The Religion Of Pieces would slaughter the others in the blink of an eye...
jmho....
I heard there is going to be prayers 5 times pointing to the east that day.
That blog is not a credible source. I didn’t even hear a rumor yet that he canceled it but I wouldn’t believe that stupid blog since she sticks in there “He’s not a Muslim either”. How would she know? Bad source, choose to ignore.
Last year, Bam canceled a public celebration by the WH. That’s all this is. He won’t have a public service this year either.
Don’t forget the Druids.
He doesn’t observe it,
so what’s the difference?
And this “I don’t want to inconvenience other parishioners in a local church” doesn’t hold water,
because he’ll run out for a burger/icecream without two thoughts to the inconvenience and cost that that will cause.
a book end of a thread to match the Romney Palin ticket in 2012 is OK by Sarah thread?
Did Obama declare this National Hoaxsters Day or what 8-?
Okay, but if we have to face East on prayer mats, I’m going to be angry.
Ya know, uhbama is a real pukehead.
Hrm...he canceled it last year...
