Steve Ballmer To Create U.S. Debt-Reducing Game

President Obama's administration has asked Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer to create a game about reducing the U.S. deficit.

Erskine Bowles, co-chair of Obama's fiscal commission, wants the game to be made so the general public can have a go to balancing the budget, reports USA Today.

Such a game, should it be created, would be part of the U.S. Government trying to find a solution to addressing the United States' $12.8 trillion debt. Democratic Senator Bob Kerrey of Nebraska says the game could "go viral."

“Timmy come eat you dinner right now before it gets cold!”

“Just a minute mom I just have to reel in the entitlement programs just enough so we can make it past the next bond auction!”

In this game, will there be a RESET button for the whole government?

1. Cancel TARP.
2. Cancel the Bailout.
3. Cancel ALL earmarks.
4. Give the president (or for the next 2 2/3 years the occupant of our White House) a line item veto.
5. Eliminate all unfunded mandates.
6. Eliminate all spending that is not clearly related to an enumerated power.
7. Cancel ObamaCare.

I’d cut more than that, but it’s a good start and probably enough to balance the budget.

It’ll be rigged.

Spending or tax cuts will cause the country to collapse while big tax hikes causes rainbows and unicorns

The debt can be reduced in a week’s time. Hyperinflate the debt away.

Of course that has its own problems, including economic crisis, rightfully earning the hostility of the creditors foreign and domestic and civil unrest.

Unless it as an urban siege scenario, I’m not interested.

Drawing on data from a recent Economist/YouGov poll -

The programs that make up the largest share of the federal budget are typically the ones that the fewest people want to cut....As you move downward, into categories of spending that are increasingly popular, you get to the largest federal programs, particularly entitlement spending.

Not many clearer examples of what’s wrong with our country than that graph. More people are willing to cut national defense than cut health research, highways, education, medicaid, social security, medicare or veterans’ benefits. I wonder how many people who participated in this wonderful survey even know the difference between Medicare and Medicaid?

Instead of a fire button, the 0bama game has two buttons. You can click ‘spend’, or you can click ‘spend’.

The headline is misleading. Ballmer was asked to create the game. It does not say he agreed.

Your post highlights a major part of the problem. Many voters simply don’t understand the entitlement programs aren’t anywhere close to being fully funded. Democrats are simply lying when they state Social Security is a success. It is not, and the facts are plain to see for anyone who cares to look. Based on current rates and demographics, we have an incredibly huge unfunded mandate that is only going to get worse. We are likely to reach the point where we can’t even borrow our way out of it, because it will take an ever increasing bite of tax revenues just to service existing debt.

If every working American (about 175 million) volunteered to chip in an extra $1000 this year, we wouldn’t come remotely close to closing the gag...for this year. It would take something closer to every taxpayer paying $500 extra PER MONTH to balance this year’s deficit!

Voters are simply going to be forced to decide at some point. Either raise taxes A LOT, cut entitlements A LOT, or do quite a bit of both. I’m sure the federal government has all sorts of smart folks analyzing our government spending. The truth is, they can get away with a lot of deficit spending. A government can even create money out of nothing for a time. I just hope the experts have figured this out well enough that it doesn’t all come crashing down before we have a chance to fix it.
