American public education, a perennial whipping boy for both the political right and left, is once again making news in ways that show how difficult it will be to cure what ails the nations schools.
Only last week, President Obama declared that every high school graduate must be fully prepared for college or a job (who knew?) and called for significant changes in the No Child Left Behind law. In Kansas City, Mo., officials voted to close nearly half the public schools there to save money. And the Texas Board of Education approved a new social studies curriculum playing down the separation of church and state and even eliminating Thomas Jefferson the author of that malignant phrase, wall of separation from a list of revolutionary writers.
Each of these seemingly unrelated developments is part of a crazy quilt created by one of Americas most cherished and unexamined traditions: local and state control of public education. Schooling had been naturally decentralized in the Colonial era with Puritan New England having a huge head start on the other colonies by the late 1600s and, in deference to the de facto system of community control already in place, the Constitution made no mention of education. No one in either party today has the courage to say it, but what made sense for a sparsely settled continent at the dawn of the Republic is ill suited to the needs of a 21st-century nation competing in a global economy.

I find it interesting that they mentioned the Kansas City, MO Public School District in the article. The reason for closing nearly 1/2 of the schools in the district is due to declining attendance. However, many of the policies of the district have been set by a federal judge in Springfield, MO. Since the mid-1970s, a federal desegregation lawsuit was filed against the district, and a federal judge has forced both the school board AND the city council to sink BILLIONS OF DOLLARS into the district. And when the city council and the voters refused to raise taxes as ordered, that federal judge imposed a tax on KCMO. You read that correctly: A federal judge decided that raising funds for the school district trumped the Constitution of the United States. Of course it was struck down by the SCOTUS, but the judge then ordered the city council to levy the tax.
Things got so bad that even 60 Minutes did a piece on it years ago... Oh, did I mention that the KCMOPSD lost its state accreditation a number of years ago as well?

What's that?
"Outlandish!!" you exclaim?
"Ludicrous!!"?
I don't blame you in the least; I once thought as you do, for I myself am a recovering product of that much-touted system, having never before seen its true nature nor the true extent and cost of all that it has wrought.
You may protest, you may rail against me, and you may speak ill of me if you so desire, but grant me this one courtesy: first, explore the system yourself from a vantage point the benefit of which you have never before had.
Begin with an eye-opening review of history:

You’ve got that right!!
The public school system is all together evil, period.
I have been calling that system the government indoctrination system for a long time. It’s purpose is to destroy the foundations of family and faith. And many people need to wake up to this truth. To often lives have been lived without thinking about the ultimate cost to ones children, and just accepted what they themselves endured, because they thought there was no other choice.
There is a choice, and it can be made. It does take some sacrifice, but over the years, that sacrifice pales in the light of a child brought up in the Lord.
This is purposeful distortion by the writer. Thomas Jefferson was NOT "eliminated" from the history books. He was simply taken out as being one of the foremost Enlightenment thinkers. He is given lots of attention in terms of the founding of our country. This is just one more example of why you can NOT trust the NYT or the rest of the MSM to be a good source of information. They purposefully lie or distort in order to advance their own agenda.
HKMk23..Wow! What a strong statement, but, as I think about it you are completely correct. Government schools are like the Death Eaters. They suck living souls and turn citizens into agents of the devil ( literally).
Yet,...We will read from conservatives here how if only ( name the reform) could be corrected that somehow the government schools could be fixed. Government schools can NOT NOT NOT be reformed because the foundation upon which they were built is, and always has been, corrupt.
Government schools were the wet dream of the 19th century Utopian progressives. They have **always** directed curriculum development and the training of government teachers. Utopian progressivism, whose faith rests upon the perfectibility of man, is corrupt and always will be corrupt.
When single payer, monopoly, cartel government schools opened in the mid-1800s the first compromise was to impose a watered down, lukewarm, and generic Protestantism. It had to be watered down if it was to gain any acceptance by a religiously diverse community! ( We know how the Lord feels about lukewarm.) The push by the Utopian progressives has **always** been toward more and more secularism. Today, our single payer, monopoly, cartel government schools teach everything within the framework of an atheistic worldview.
IT IS EVIL TO TEACH CHILDREN TO THINK GODLESSLY!
Government schools have **always** been socialistic. From the very first day that first single payer government school opened children learn ( simply by attending) that the government will take money from their neighbor to pay for a service their parents want tuition-free. EVERY DAY a child attends a socialistic, single payer, government school this child learns to be comfortable with socialism! Hey! If the government can take money from a neighbor for schooling, why not a thousand other wants and needs?
Finally,...IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to have a religiously, politically, and culturally neutral school! IT IS AXIOMATIC! Government schools do one thing really well. They cause conflict! ALL government schools establish the religious, political, and cultural beliefs of the biggest political bully, and TRASH the values of others.
ALL government schools are a First Amendment and freedom of conscience abomination!
There is only one solution! We must begin the process of privatizing all education in this nation.
Finally...Government teachers ( who seem so sweet and love their cat) WILLINGLY agree to open the doors to evil. No one is holding a gun to their heads. What does that make them? If they haven't quit or been fired by now, they too are evil. ( Despite being sweet and loving their cat.) It is time to identify these people for what they are. They are the Death Eaters, and WILLINGLY do it for a pay check.
By the way,...I am shouting. I am EXASPERATED with foolish conservatives who claim that their child's school is different, or think that that some type of reform will fix government schooling.
( I have not proof read this. )
I hate the NY Slimes. If it came from them, you KNOW it’s Commie crap. ZERO, just like the president.
Some serious separation of powers issues there.
Learn to misspell "Syracuse" while filling out your NCAA Tournament Brackets - and YOU TOO can become President someday ...
Sorry, honey, abortion is an abomination, human sacrifice. I don’t care what you think, it’s God’s point of view I’m worried about.
What I want to know is if any federal government department has ever been dissolved?
Then soon after, they hand out the armbands and the brown shirts.
Soon thereafter they hand out those swastika armbands and a week later those nice brown shirts. It appears that the only lesson statists learn from history is how to repeat the conditions for misery and genocide..
Conservative Bill Bennett is not only on board with this, he’s the harbor pilot.
NEA......wanna bet there’s no room for home schoolers?!!!
...and NOWHERE do I say it isn't.
However, abominable as it is, abortion is also a one-way ticket to the arms of Jesus that has permanently affected more than 50 million souls. By contrast, public school is a 13-year course in "How and Why to be Eternally Damned", and that impact has been as follows:
35% of US Citizens age 65+ (12.6% of the US Population)
65% of US Citizens age ~45 - 64 (25.4%)
85% of US Citizens age ~25 - 44 (27.7%)
96% of US Citizens birth to age 24 (34.3%)
Doing the math...
35% of 37,955,951 people is 13,284,583 damned souls.
65% of 76,514,377 people is 49,734,345 damned souls.
85% of 83,442,844 people is 70,926,417 damned souls.
96% of 103,324,531 people is 99,191,549 damned souls.
Roe v. Wade has populated Heaven with the unborn lives of between 50 and 55 million Americans. An unspeakable horror, to be sure.
But Public Education is on track to secure the eternal damnation of more than 233 million Americans of all ages.
So, you tell me: which is the most potent weapon in Satan's arsenal?
Treating citizens as a giant Human Resource isn't what Jefferson had in mind, never mind that the Timesmen profess mock surprise at Jefferson's (I seriously doubt it!) "deletion" by the Texas State Board of Education.
Cultural-imperialist s.o.b.'s at it again. Another argument for kicking New York City and New England out of the Union.
Corporatization, that is fascism to the core...
You might say they are monopoly corporatists -- the basic monopoly being that of the gun.
Yeah, I agree. And it sounds like the old brain-dead Nazi rant:
Ein Volk! Ein Reich! Ein Fuehrer!
(Many Sieg heil's follow.)
Yep. We’ve learned nothing and history has come full circle.
