In Event of WMD Attack, "All Bets Are Off" (Palin Victory, Obama Changes Stance on Nuke Warfare)
CBS News ^ | Sunday, April 11, 2010 | Stephanie Condon

The Obama administration's nuclear posture review may have removed some of the intentional ambiguity from U.S. nuclear policy, but it does not leave the country any less safe, President Obama's top national security advisers said on CBS' "Face the Nation."

In fact, they said, it gives a clear warning to other state actors that the U.S. will not ignore any growing threats.

"This is putting everybody on notice," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told CBS News chief Washington correspondent Bob Schieffer in an interview conducted Friday at the Pentagon. "We don't want more countries to go down the path that North Korea and Iran are."

The revised nuclear policy says that the United States will not use nuclear weapons to respond to a chemical or biological attack from a non-nuclear country. The policy, however, leaves significant contingencies, said Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

SNIP

"We were concerned about the biological weapons," Gates said, "and that's why the president was very clear ... if we see states developing biological weapons that we begin to think endanger us or create serious concerns, that he reserves the right to revise this policy."

Clinton added, "If we can prove that a biological attack originated in a country that attacked us, then all bets are off."

Gates also pointed out that the policy dictates that any country that uses chemical or biological weapons against the U.S. will "suffer a devastating conventional retaliation."

I really really doubt that Obama and co would stand by and do nothing while thousands of American’s are killed by plague/nerve gas/radiation. Pressure from the American people alone would force retaliation.

When Palin has the MSM doing all they can to hang the "Quayle" sign on her, she doesn't need to give them ammo. Obviously I care more about what she'd do with nu-cle-ar power and firepower, than about how she pronounces the word — but why feed the caricature?

Also: it makes me sad to see conservatives defend shoddy speech just because it's someone we love. Do you tell your kids that, if they object to your correction of their pronunciation? My late mother corrected both my pronunciation and my grammar, and I'm grateful to her for it.

Leave the left fuming about what you say, Sarah; not sniggering about how ineptly you say it.

She is regularly beating the stuffing out of this guy. Not since Richard Nixon and Ted Kennedy has a candidate imbedded himself so deeply in the head of a sitting President. They must screen every move he makes according to what Sarah Palin’s reaction to it will be.

As a great Civil War general once said, “Get ‘em skeered [scared]. And keep the skeer on ‘em. “ She seems to be following this strategy to perfection with Obama.

I heard Karl Rove, who is touted as “Bush’s brain” and a bona fide genius, and he pronounces nuclear exactly as Palin does. Non issue.

When I heard her, she said nucular, pronouncing it as Bush did. I hope she will say nuclear not nuc-you-lar in the future.

"Nucular" is one of those mispronunciations that people accept. I mean, did anyone complain about JFK calling Castro's island "Cuber"? I don't think so.

I personally prefer NUCLEAR, because thats how its spelled, but if NUCULAR was good enough for Edward Teller, then its good enough for me.

LOL. You’re right about that. She tore into him like never before. “Community organizer, part time senator, full time candidate...” LOL.

Sarah has him nailed for the fraud and mental midget he is.

Edward Teller and most folks at our weapons labs since World War II have "ineptly" pronounced it "nukular".

And in case you haven't noticed, Sarah does leave the left fuming about what she says.

You think that if a terrorist sets a low yield nuclear weapon of in NYC killing tens of thousands, that Congress and the American people wouldn’t be screaming for blood, and Obama would block any attempts to go to war?

Obama wouold ignore the screaming of Congress and the people. He would say that there is no reason to react drastically. He would ask what we did to make the attacker angry.

I have zero faith in the basic decency of Ozero. The man is a sick individual.

According to a program I watched the US has over 165 different dialects spoken accross it. They illustrated these dialects by talking to people in various states, cities, towns, etc. all across the Nation.

One segment had three men, sitting on a porch, on some semt remote New England island, speaking what sounded like English, but I could’t understand a word they said...

Sarah’s english to me, a left coaster, is easier on the ears than the dialectic english spoken in parts of New Jersey......LOLOLOL

Ummm, that woman is the mayor of Tampa...

I acknowledged that earlier. But how do you know that she doesn't secretly want to be a despotic ruler? :O)

“We don’t want more countries to go down the path that North Korea and Iran are.”

Proof Obama has, as matter of policy, accepted Iran and North Korea's nuclear ambitions.

Thats my mayor he’s bowing too. She’s a good mayor but not that good. Gov Crist was upset he didn’t get a bow in addition to the hug.
