Ron Paul: Barack Obama is Not a Socialist
NEW ORLEANSRepublicans and tea party activists are fond of accusing President Barack Obama of being a socialist, but today party gadfly Ron Paul said they had it wrong.
In the technical sense, in the economic definition, he is not a socialist, the Texas Republican said to a smattering of applause at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference.
Hes a corporatist, Paul quickly added, meaning the president takes care of corporations and corporations take over and run the country.

Now Ron Paul is saying he is not, and he is giving further ammunition to use against the exploding, successful Tea Party movement.
It was a HORRIBLE idea.
I'll leave your 'wind-up doll' ad hominem alone, because it's dopey.
By the way, welcome to FR. Where did you come from?
Yet for some reason, he has his defenders here on FR. Total nutcases all. How anyone can support a 9/11 truther and still call himself a conservative, I don’t know?
Paul isn’t goitng to lie just for the sake of “timing.” He’s going to tell the truth e.g. Obama is fascist, not an advocate of outright state ownership.
I guess you must not be very confident in your case against Paul if you have to make things up. Paul rejects the truther view of 9-11 and has put the blame on Bid Laden countless times.
Makes one pause when self-proclaimed 'conservative' Paul says it, does it not?
I agree. He’s worse....more like a Marxist/Communist if you ask me.
Agree. These terms actually have very specific meanings.
Socialism, as I understand it, is government takeover completely.
Facism means that the government regulates and controls private industry to the point where they essentially control things, but not actually own them.
Conservatives, who backed McCain like lemmings in the last election, are hardly the best judges of who is a socialist and who is not.
I noticed Romney hasn’t received near the response nor the media coverage of his book that Palin got....tsk tsk...and we know she doesn’t have to bus in anybody!!!
No, Ron, Obama is a Socialist, just like Bush and McCain.
Yes, that is correct...
In addition to Paul buying supporter's tickets to the conference, Romney bought and paid 800 of his "supporters" to vote for him this after noon. It will be interesting how it comes out and how the press will handle it.
(Well, really no need to speculate, no matter who wins [even Sarah] they will spin it so she doesn't have any support except for those rabid violent Tea Partiers.)
“Hard for me to understand why he thinks hes a corporatist and not a socialist. What has he done to help corporations take over the world?”
Forcing all American citizens to purchase a good from a specific, limited number of corporations or face fines and/or imprisonment would seem to qualify.
Perhaps you should do some homework on the term corporatism. Corporatism has nothing to do with free market corporations. The term dates from the early 19th century to describe fascism e.g. government/businss/labor partnership Mussolini, for example, proudly called himself a corporatism. Don't blame Paul for the fact that he is better read than you on the meaning of term.
Ron Paul has always been the flea on the back of the Republican party....he has never done anything but split votes against the Democrates, and unfortunately has an opinion of himself much close to Bo’s. Plus I just plain don’t like the man’s way of handling life in general noe how he approaches the issues.
Total BS! He has attended and supported 9/11 truthers. Adding you to the list...
Me? Well, from my local GOP Party precinct, serving as Republican Party precinct chairman. And you?
Speaking of books: Was at the local Border’s store the other day to get my copy of “Liberty and Tyranny” by Mark R. Levin, and out front on the front display was Hannity’s new book, and Romney’s book was in a cramped corner of the store. They had one copy of Levin’s book in the store.
Yes, some truther nuts support Paul and some birther nuts support Palin. By your standard, that would make Palin a birther. Paul and Palin are not responsible for any nuts (and truthers, like birthers, are nust) who support them.
