Glenn Beck: ‘Mitt Romney Could Be The Only Guy That Could Win’ In 2012
Mediate.com ^ | April 8th, 2010 | Frances Martel

Glenn Beck and radio pals Pat Gray and Stu Burguiere rattled down the list of potential Republican nominees for President in 2012 this morning, and they had some bad news for the Tea Party movement: Sarah Palin probably won’t run, Ron Paul is still and long shot, and Mitt Romney, as of now, is the GOP’s best bet.

While Gray and Burguiere are harsh to most of the candidates, Beck spreads the love around. He tells his co-hosts that he likes Palin but doesn’t think she will run, Bobby Jindal but doesn’t think he has the charisma, and Congressman Paul but doesn’t think America is ready for him. Then, at the bottom of the pile, he finds Mitt Romney:

"I have to tell you that Mitt Romney could be the only guy that could win, and I don’t know if he could because I think that Americans are going to be I mean, this country is going to be in deep trouble by 2012, and the next term, if it’s not decided this term, the next term will decide our fate. Then I hope that Americans are ready for an adult and are ready for hard news."

It’s a strange, possibly sad conclusion from someone who had called Romney out for “flirting with socialism,” but ultimately Beck was trying to determine who could win, not who he thought should. If Beck was playing process of elimination, which he clearly was, it’s hard to refute his conclusion that Romney is the least likely candidate to crash and burn in a general election, if only for being a conservative from the most liberal state of America and having moderate successes like universal health care under his belt. Or– and this one is for you conspiracy theorists out there– maybe Beck is intentionally downplaying the Republican candidates’ ability to success so as to clear the brush and become the reluctant right-wing candidate by default. After all, he is the second-most popular human being in America. (Link to a Harris poll: Glenn Beck is the second most popular television personality in America… second only to Oprah Winfrey.)

I regret I missed it. I am sure it was excellent. But I have basically lost the motivation to watch him...to drop everything and go running to the TV.

Again, I regret I missed yesterday’s show.

Thank you. My loss.

Glenn is good with what he does: expose the Socialists and inform..
He is NOT up on politics, however. Today, he said, “Didn’t Steele resign?” and had to be corrected.
Beck predicting who will be the candidate in ‘12 is less reliable that my eight year old granddaughter. Actually, she’s pretty savvy. When she heard BO’s voice on the car radio yesterday, she said “oh, he’s an idiot. There is only one kid in my class who likes him”!!!
Despite what her parents probably think, I didn’t put those words in her mouth..but that’s my girl!!!

I suspect his Mormonism is the reason for Glenn Beck's comments and support.

WHAT SUPPORT???

I have read the article, and I see NO statement of support from Glenn. None.

Please point out the alleged support.

He's just describing the way he sees the primaries shaping up at this stage.

Similar statements:

"Adolph Hilter may subjigate all of Europe before he is stopped." Is that a statement in support of Hilter?

"If that pedophile is released early, he will probably molest another child!" Is that a statement in favor of a child molester?

"Obama may just win the general election." Is that a statement in support of Obama?

People, stick with what's actually said and actually written, not what the author is trying to imply with it. Don't be led like sheep, K?

He's just giving his opinion on how he sees the 2012 situation at this point. He doesn't necessarily like that Romney may be the only one who could win, but if that's truly the way he sees the situation, then why all the ruckus over his saying so?

If this is serous analysis, then we would have to believe that Glenn Beck thinks that Ron Paul is in the top running to win the Republican nomination for President, nobody thinks that, so something is phony about Beck.

Why would Beck pretend that Ron Paul is one of the biggest figures in Presidential politics.

To paraphase Judge Napolitano:

The law of the land is that when the government cease to recognize guaranteed natural rights it is the duty, underscore duty of the people to alter or abolish it.

How do you alter or abolish it when you have a choice between Mitt and ‘Zero’?

Oh, wipe the foam from your mouth and take a chill pill, for crying out loud.

Is everything black and white to you?

Do you not recognize that someone with some media power like Glenn Beck can slip remarks such as the ones he has made here to influence his listeners?

Learn to be a little more rational and respectful before you try to engage in any kind of discussion with me in the future.

Beck may be correct. Romney is savvy and has TV people skills(dont get your panties in a twist..I dont like the guy) and then there is the almost 100% certainty that the Republicans will shoot themselves again.

With the exception of Palin, there isnt a single one out there that can beat obama. But Palin is falling fast lately. Leaves only Romney. No one else around.

I used to be a fan of Beck, but his emotional ups and downs take their toll. I have come to the conclusion that he is a rather unstable individual.

Beck thinks Romney might be able to win..........based on what?

Based on the reasons he gave. Did you read it?

He believes Palin will not run, for one thing.

He's NOT saying he LIKES Romney. Just that he appears (to Glenn) to have the best shot at this point.

Let me make a similar statement: I believe that Barack Obama stands a good chance of winning a second term, based on the fact that Slick Willie Clinton was elected twice, and that voters are pretty clueless, overall.

I can't STAND Obama, and my statement in no way supports him. It's just a statement of how I see the possibilities.

Why would Beck pretend that Ron Paul is one of the biggest figures in Presidential politics.

I don't know. You'd have to ask him.

It could have to do with the fact that Mr. Paul has a significant (though not overwhelming) number of supporters.

Regardless, it doesn't change that Beck made no statement in support of Romney.

I agree but most independents and quite a few republicans don’t even know who he is. He’s got to get moving if he is going to run.

you are correct of course but you cant convince the hate Mormon crowd of anything. They think a vote for the huckster is a vote for Jesus and a vote for Romney is a vote for the Devil.
