Glenn Beck: ‘Mitt Romney Could Be The Only Guy That Could Win’ In 2012
Mediate.com ^ | April 8th, 2010 | Frances Martel

Glenn Beck and radio pals Pat Gray and Stu Burguiere rattled down the list of potential Republican nominees for President in 2012 this morning, and they had some bad news for the Tea Party movement: Sarah Palin probably won’t run, Ron Paul is still and long shot, and Mitt Romney, as of now, is the GOP’s best bet.

While Gray and Burguiere are harsh to most of the candidates, Beck spreads the love around. He tells his co-hosts that he likes Palin but doesn’t think she will run, Bobby Jindal but doesn’t think he has the charisma, and Congressman Paul but doesn’t think America is ready for him. Then, at the bottom of the pile, he finds Mitt Romney:

"I have to tell you that Mitt Romney could be the only guy that could win, and I don’t know if he could because I think that Americans are going to be I mean, this country is going to be in deep trouble by 2012, and the next term, if it’s not decided this term, the next term will decide our fate. Then I hope that Americans are ready for an adult and are ready for hard news."

It’s a strange, possibly sad conclusion from someone who had called Romney out for “flirting with socialism,” but ultimately Beck was trying to determine who could win, not who he thought should. If Beck was playing process of elimination, which he clearly was, it’s hard to refute his conclusion that Romney is the least likely candidate to crash and burn in a general election, if only for being a conservative from the most liberal state of America and having moderate successes like universal health care under his belt. Or– and this one is for you conspiracy theorists out there– maybe Beck is intentionally downplaying the Republican candidates’ ability to success so as to clear the brush and become the reluctant right-wing candidate by default. After all, he is the second-most popular human being in America. (Link to a Harris poll: Glenn Beck is the second most popular television personality in America… second only to Oprah Winfrey.)

Mittens couldn’t beat Juan McAmnesty back in ‘08. Beck is all wet here.

Q: Why do you always take two Mormons fishing with you?

A: If you only take one, he'll drink all the beer.

OK, I think the above explains Mitt's problem - he drunk with power when in office, and can't help himself from doing stupid things when he has the chance and the adulation from the left.

Beck is just plain nuts.

re: Well, that settles it, Beck really has come unhinged if he thinks that liberal hack Romney could win anything but the dem primary.)))

???

I didn't hear that at all. He was suggesting that, absent Palin, the only one who could win is Romney. Nothing unreasonable there...do you think Pawlenty, Jindal, Huck would be ahead of Romney? Then, who? I wish people would get their minds off 2012, and concentrate completely on 2010!!

Don't forget how Obama came from behind. Someone on the conservative side could come from behind.

In the meantime, CARE ABOUT 2010!!

Glenn Beck on Paul Ryan

You really need to take a chill pill there, Mr. Beck.

Your fixation on progressives vs nonprogressives is infantile.

You’re always telling people to do their homework, when it’s obvious you haven’t done yours.

ObamaCare is the law of the land.

The choice we have before us is ObamaCare or something less invasive.

And also a plan for extricating this Great Republic from the black hole of debt we have gotten ourselves into.

You’re just like Jekyll and Hyde, you better turn your tide, baby.
I know that person between ain’t mean, baby.
So meet me at the corner of sanity, don’t be late, baby.
I’m gonna ride Jekyll and Hyde right outta your life
And I don’t mean maybe. (x2).

“Duncan Hunter is the best chance we’ve got.”

You left off the sarcasm tag. 2008 proved how little appeal Hunter has. He never received more than 2% of the primary vote in any state and actually ran behind “uncommitted” in Michigan.

When more people will go out on a cold December day in Michigan to vote for “uncommitted” than a real live candidate, it speaks volumes.

Don't get me wrong. I like and respect Hunter, but he has no charisma.

BECK: "Bobby Jindal but doesn’t think he has the charisma ..."

That's why a Jindal/Palin ticket would be awesome. Or a Jindal/Bachmann ticket. If he runs, he's got our votes!

But no Mitt; he seems to be a good family man, but that's where it starts and ends (for me anyway).

I disagree with Beck, but I don’t see it as him unraveling to state his opinion that Romney may be the only guy that can get elected. What I do see it as, is Beck positioning himself to miss the next train to the promised land.

Beck would serve his cause better, if he began to champion good people who have not announced yet, rather than limit his thoughts to the people who have, and are not acceptable.

We need new blood. There’s new blood out there. Drill now Beck. There’s a gusher out there waiting to be tapped. It’s up to you and others to tap those resources.

We’ll be right there with you as you do.

Romney? Why place Alpo on the menu when there’s prime rib for sale at the wholesalers?

I agree. It seems to me that Palin can be more effective as a outsider, a troublemaker if you will than actually getting into the ring. But, if she does, I am with her. I think it is kind of cute that all these folks are busy gathering ammo to use against her.....then if she doesn’t run...she gets the laugh. :)

I can answer that for me. I cannot in good conscience vote fore either Zero or Romney. Unless there is a 3rd choice that I can vote for with a clear conscience, the line remains blank.

Especially since it was only a few days ago Beck said he was AGAINST Romney in 2008.

I commented to a friend that I was glad to see that Beck didn’t support Romney because they were both Mormons.

Blech to Beck.

Glenn Beck loses absolutely all his credibility by supporting a liberal statist progressive like Romney. I’ve stopped watching his show because he has outed himself as a phony....just like Romney.

THANKS!

I don't watch Beck, but that had been my guess as to what he really said, and is consistant with Beck, and with common sense.

If Romney ran as a Demorat, he could win in 2012. For the GOP, he will not invigorate anyone. Why is he running?
