Obama to Limit Potential Uses of Nuclear Weapons
Fox News / AP ^ | 4/6/2010 | AP / Fox News

The Obama administration is locking up the country's nuclear weapons for all but the most "extreme circumstances," pledging in a new policy not to develop new nuclear weapons and to limit the use of the ones in storage -- even for self defense.

The new strategy stops short of declaring the United States will never be the first to launch a nuclear attack. But officials said the goal is to move toward a policy where the "sole purpose" of nuclear weapons is to deter or respond to a nuclear attack.

And Obama, in an interview with The New York Times, said his administration is committing not to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear states that are following international treaty agreements, even if they attack with biological or chemical weapons.

The most dangerous threat the United States has ever known resides in the white house.

I have no doubt about that right now.

I no longer will be shocked at how low this SOB will go.

Why not give away a few nuclear carriers while he is at it to show “good will”?

Seriously, I truly expect things like that now.
Of course it would take the form of cancelling future ships or early decomissioning.

Ozero seems intent on weakening this nation in all aspects.

Every day there is something Obama does that reminds us just how much he really hates and despises this country.

I see there’s a bunch of people who think we’re going to “get hit” because of this. But, from what I’ve seen and from the Bush Administration, we’re going to “get hit” anyway, no matter what. I posted this in regards to getting hit by terrorists, in another thread ...

Well a couple of things here. First of all, the Bush Administration said it was a certainty that we are going to get hit with some major terrorist attack (either nuclear or biological or something major on the scale of 9/11 or greater). They said repeatedly it’s not a matter of “if” — but only a matter of “when”.

So, we know it’s going to happen. We just don’t know when it’s going to happen. And it’s just as likely that this scenario that President Bush was talking about is going to wipe out one or two major cities in the U.S.

Therefore, in any case, you should be prepared for that, no matter what the nuclear policy of the U.S. is.

Then the other thing is that the kind of attack that would be employed here (what the Bush Administration was talking about) wouldn’t be affected one way or another by our nuclear policy. The terrorists don’t have a “national identity” and many of them, are from countries all over Europe and even from here in the United States (many already being citizens of this country).

And the third thing to consider is that the same preventative measures that have been taken before are still being employed today by agencies concerned over these attacks. They’re still going to be working to prevent these terrorists attacks.

And then, fourthly if any “nation” takes us on and luanches any nuclear attack and/or biological attack, they’re going to be “toast” anyway — no matter what our policy says ... :-)

And lastly, if there is some major terrorist attack that disrupts the nation for a while FEMA does already have plans to go by, in order to get people to voting in elections very quickly. Those plans are already laid down and they will be followed as they’ve specified already.

Oh..., and one more thing... anyone who is President when being attacked and if it’s perceived it’s because of his lax policies — he’s toast anyway. It’s over for that President.

his administration is committing not to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear states that are following international treaty agreements

this is a reference to the UN non-proliferation treaty. in effect, this puts the UN in charge of US defense policy. if the UN suddenly decides that iran in "in compliance", then the US pledge would apply to them, PERIOD.

At least he’s going to try to get better control of nuclear materials, which is something GHWB dropped the ball on after the break up of the Soviet Union.

And how did that work for Clinton and Carter??? How did we make out there?? Sure worked well, didn’t it? And what are Korea and Iran up to today? Oh, Iraq would probably have nukes by now if we had not taken down Sadman Insane. OK, what are we going to blame on the Bush family now?

Why don't the voters who stayed home in 2008 (because McCain was not a pure-blood conservative) come on threads like this and pound their chest???

That party invitation should also include the Repub voters in 2006 who showed the Repubs that they did not like them, thus turning the Congress over to the radical left.
