Butler took Duke to the final possession Monday night, but Gordon Hayward's potential game-winners drew iron as the Blue Devil won the national title 61-59.

Congratulations! A class coach, team and program.
“One Shining Moment SUCKED!”
1000000% AGREE!!!!
Me too! Was a great game...glad Duke won though (have been fans for 20 years-no alum; just fans thanks to our son); sorry that Butler couldn’t win too! They deserve all the KUDOS coming their way.
“Michigan State has experience losing to Horizon League teams. Didnt they lose to Wright State the year they won their last national championship in 2000?”
Yep.
Now that is a motivator.
Don’t get me wrong, Butler is a good team with good kids who play hard. Still, no matter the STORY the media loves I don’t believe in officiating welfare to further that story.
This is how the media works.
#seed5 Butler beats #5 seed MSU and it is a great upset.
Not really, they are both 5 seeds with MSU playing damn near practice players and Freshmen to cover their hobbled starters and their top player out with surgery days before.
The media missed that.
Haywood missed a couple of chippies around the basket early that set the tone. Zoo couldn't match his foot speed, but Butler failed to capitalize on the mismatch. Too physical right from the get go for me. Refs failed to get control of the game early. Lots of off ball crap.
ONE SHINING MOMENT SUCKED??
you betcha!!
I’m sure Butler team and fans are dissapointed now, BUT guess what?
Pretty much the ENTIRE starting lineup is back next year. Howard, Hayward, Norrie, VanZandt.....can this happen again? YEP!
This time ain’t no one will be suprised!
After the Duke Lacrosse team fiasco, I’m probably a Duke fan for life.
from CNNSI: “when Lance Thomas took down Hayward hard to prevent an easy layup with 5:07 left. The refs reviewed the play and decided not to call it flagrant”
Dude, if you look up “flagrant foul” in the dictionary, they could use that play as an example. Butler shoulda had 2 FTs and got the ball back.
Beg to differ with you. Here’s from CNNSI: when Lance Thomas took down Hayward hard to prevent an easy layup with 5:07 left. The refs reviewed the play and decided not to call it flagrant
First, if you look up flagrant foul in the dictionary, they could use that play as an example. Butler shoulda had 2 FTs and got the ball back.
Second: Butler shoulda been shooting free throws at the end there when the big guy, Zoubek, stiff-armed the Butler guy to the floor in the last minute. Butler did get the ball back, but they shoulda been shooting free throws. Coulda tied the game.
The only sport I will root for Duke is la crosse.
Breaks my heart for Butler.
Watch it again. Zoubeck threw Howard to the ground with his left arm. That was his 5th foul. They would have gone to OT.
Honestly I would think you guys would be more positive- Coach K keeps kids for 4 years, has one of the highest graduation rates in the country- builds young men not just basketball players- it's what we are all about here! Honor. Respect. Integrity.
I should go buy a lottery ticket... my daughter is a sophomore at UNC and we were on Franklin St last year with the kids! My son, however, endured losing in the early rounds the entire time he was there (’05-09).
I say: Go Duke! Go Coach K! Well done!
thank you!
I have been a fan of Coach K since he coached at Army. His halftime speech to the Duke team when they were playing Navy during the 1986 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament was one for the ages AND showed a lot of class.
Having said that, until President Brodhead and the Gang of 88 are unemployed and unemployable, I'd rather have a sister working in a house of ill repute than support ANYTHING from Duke.
Freakin “One Shining Moment” was Jennifer Hudson singing. What the heck?! It was supposed to be about BASKETBALL!!
There is a BIG difference between the students and the faculty (probably true at most schools!). My son was a student at the time and he was most decidedly supportive of the LAX players. The students saw through the BS right away.
Big deal. The NBA’s newest collection of thugs.
