Governor Jan Brewer (R) today signed HB2307, Arizona's version of the Firearms Freedom Act, making Arizona the sixth state, behind Montana and Tennessee, who passed theirs in 2009, and Wyoming, Utah, and South Dakota which did so earlier this year.
For those not familiar, the FFA is a Tenth Amendment as much as a gun rights issue, declaring firearms and accessories manufactured, sold and used within the state to be beyond the reach of federal regulation.
After Montana and Tennessee had the audacity last year to pass legislation after actually having read the Constitution, the ATF sent a letter to FFL's in those states informing them that these laws were null and void and the feds can in fact do anything they damn well please. This was expected and test cases originating in Montana, with carefully chosen plaintiffs are in process. The last I heard was that the feds had moved for dismissal.
Pinging the guns and freedom crowd!
Signed into law. Hope no prostitutes in black robes on the bench try to overturn this.
Good! There’s another nearby state I can consider fleeing to when I just can’t stomach living in California anymore.
Does that mean that I can buy a suppressor without paying the tax?
“The last I heard was that the feds had moved for dismissal.”
PERHAPS, IT IS TIME TO “DISMISS” THE FEDS.
DEAR FEDERAL FASCIST BASTARDS...
“COME AND TAKE THEM”
Don't recall. Most of the states to have passed this have exempted machine guns, crew served weapons, etc., but some accessories and ammo are included, so I'd have to check.
So where’s a list of AZ gun manufacturers?
Shoot, CNC files for 1911 frames, AR-10 and -15 lowers and many other firearms are floating around (people can already legally use them to make guns for their own personal use), your local machine shop may become a gun mfgr.
Sturm Ruger’s got a facility in Prescott.
SB1108 (CCW without a permit) needs one final reading in the House (should be a formality, it's already passed several house votes), and that's on to her as well!
The issue will shift to ammo, not the firearms themselves.
‘They’ will soon do everything they can to keep ammo out of the hands of private citizens.
Actually, ammo’s covered in the bill, so to whatever extent the bill is effective WRT guns themselves, that shouldn’t work.
Where is AZ on their bill to allow non-permit ccw? I heard it was close to going to the gov.
That’s good to hear. The post referred to firearms and accessories.
Still, I expect ‘them’ to try to make it painful to pay for and purchase ammo. I like this law.
BTW, did you see Walter Williams Investor’s Business Daily editorial about splitting the nation (like a couple with irreconcilable differences)? This would be one of the fault lines.
Please ~ping~ me to articles relating to the 10th Amendment/States Rights so I can engage the pinger.
I've stopped monitoring threads and unilaterally adding names to the ping list, so if you want on or off the list just say so.

Disturbingly, I was listening to the 7-10 morning show on the conservative talk station in Phoenix last week (Barry Markson sitting in for Barry Young), and the guest host and normal sidekick were ridiculing the necessity for this bill while protesting their pro-gun creds. I tried to call in to set them straight and or try to get them to justify the contradictions in their position, but all I got for over an hour was a busy signal. Then when they "opened the line for calls", they had a steady stream of people who agreed with their viewpoint, at which they pantomimed great surprise. Very strange. I suspect some shenanigans aimed at swaying any Republicans who might be wobbling.
Thanks
I truly hope that these States follow this up by administratively clearing the path for private companies to ratchet up production. This mostly means enabling legislation to avoid any confusion with the counties and cities, over these companies getting equipment and supplies, and setting up shop.
I can imagine this including zoning, safety regulations, tax waivers, weights and measures, transportation and security, and probably a special State ombudsman to deal with any federal-State issues, such as violations of State law by federal officers.
WOO-HOO!!!! NRA PING!!!
