She may only have a tiny heart - but luckily for Karmann the orphaned wombat, she was rescued by an animal lover with a large one. The helpless little creature owes her life to a driver who rescued her from the pouch of her dying mother, who had been run over in East Gippsland, Australia in early March.

I think a wombat is a marsupial.

So, how much of your own money would you have given to save the life of this wombat?
Why do you think I must be “hard hearted” because I believe governments shouldn’t fund such things?

Cute. Thanks for the story. Read the comments section and it always infuriates me when someone says “too bad we don’t show the same compassion to homeless” or whatever their cause celebre happens to be. That implies that the person who rescued the wombat made a conscious choice to rescue the wombat over a homeless person she saw in distress at the same time and sets up the classical liberal false comparison.
I find beauty in all life (My vet calls me Fern - a reference to Charlotte’s Web - because of all the critters I bring to him for “vetting”), and just because I happen to resce a bat does not mean that I am putting that bat’s life above a human’s life. It merely means I came across a living creature in distress and rescued it.
/rant. Again - a lovely story and so happy Karmann was rescued.
