In celebration of electricity and how much everyone appreciates this marvelous invention, cities across the world have been turning off their lights for one hour starting at 8:30 pm tonight (check your local TV listings). Clutching candles as the only means of light, earthlings learn to appreciate the only source of light before the invention of electric light. The cost to commerce and personal income from the hour long event can be fully appreciated in the video below when the electricity goes off.

Yes, I participated.

Turned on lots of lights, even left them on all the sunshiny day, so as not to miss the annionted hour.

I just seem to have a different take on this. I’m thinking:

“Hey guys, ever wondered what it’s like to live in a socialist state where it’s like this all the time, and not by choice?”

Grilled a bunch of delicious animals on the charcoal cooker.

Played XBox on the big screen.

I think I did good.

I turned on every light, every appliance I could — the oven, stove burners, dryer (an idea from a fellow FReeper lol) and and sure all my curtains were open so the satellites would see me. I also opened the windows so the A/C would cool of the entire neighborhood. I wanted my meter to RUN!

Heck yeah, I participated!

we had friends over watching ultimate fighting on PPV.

At 8:30 pm I told everyone we had to turn off the TV and the lights, go outside and form a circle holding candles. I was going to throw in the part about also holding hands and singing but thought that would be pushing it too far.

Of course, we watched the fight instead, just in case you were wondering.

Why yes I did. I turned every light on, and idled my car.

I forgot about it entirely. Not that I would have participated. I had ‘earth hour’ for about a week back in February when the snow knocked out the power. I fully appreciate electricity and all the comforts that come with it.

I turned on everything I could think of. Take that, Commies. I hear that the North Koreans were 100% compliant in the farce-hour.

Well, I did what I always do at that time of night; sat in the hot tub on the deck gazing at the stars. I’m in the woods so no one would even see if I had lights on or not.

And after my latest $900+ PG&E bill, I couldn’t justify burning power for no one to see.

I participated by forgetting about it and making sure lots of outside lights were turned on earlier in the evening. Obama’s economy has caused crime in my area to rise. Outside lighting had become much more important for security reasons.
