MEDFORD, Ore. -- Police have released more details in the case of a Medford man who's firearms were confiscated earlier this month.
A 20-page police report released Wednesday afternoon details why five firearms were taken from David Pyles when a SWAT team and negotiators descended on his home on Effie Street on March 8th and he was taken into custody.
On March 4th, Pyles was placed on administrative leave from the Oregon Department of Transportation and escorted by police out of the office building. After being placed on leave, police say Pyles purchased a Heckler & Koch .45-caliber handgun, a Walther .380-caliber handgun and an AK-47 rifle.
The report reveals that Pyles had been disgrunted in his workplace for six months, and co-workers had reported frequent outbursts by Pyles. It goes on to say that after learning of Pyles gun purchases, several ODOT employees left their homes and went to motels.
After a mental evaluation, Pyles was released from custody, and his guns were eventually returned.
Police consider the case closed. Pyles is considering hiring a lawyer, but has not done so yet.

So when does he file a lawsuit against the police? Looks like a good case.
Precrime is on it!
Scary indeed.
Never, ever tell anyone outside of your family you own or purchase guns, period. Downplay every conversation. Ammunition? Buy in small quantities when you can.
And who told them about his gun purchases? The police?
The store?
He most likely mentioned them or bragged about it to co-workers....

You can’t expect police to actually wait till you’ve committed a crime. That’s ridiculous. If you want that kind of treatment, you need to be a mooselimb openly advocating violence toward US citizens. Sheesh!
“... good case”
Good for what ..??
Who’s to say the guy was not a walking time-bomb ready to explode ..?? I don’t think a rational person buys those kinds of weapons unless he intends to use them to harm people.
We may hear more of this guy yet!
Sadly, I have relatives in Medford and this guy worries me.

Perhaps only if they forced entry into his home without a search warrant.
I understand your position, but let me play devils advocate.
Was the police action warranted and reasonable?
From the post:
had been disgruntled in his workplace for six months (pattern)
co-workers had reported frequent outbursts (specific)
placed on administrative leave (if because of behavior, that is significant)
escorted by police out of the office building (very significant)
Then
purchased a .45 handgun, a .380 handgun and a AK-47 rifle.”(relevant to events, possible extension of behavior)
Whereupon
several co-workers left their homes and went to motels. (dramatic specifics)
Was his sudden and substantial interest in guns because he had some spare time on his hands, or because he had new reason to be really disgruntled?
What if nothing had been done about it and it ended badly? The anti-2d A libs would have had a field day, to say nothing of the surviving family members.
As one who would be described by the MSM as having an arsenal at his compound, I believe 2d A supporters may have dodged an ugly event.
Cheers
If you go to a rented range, they’ll get pissed off if you ‘pickup’....cuts into their profits. Regardless, you’re right. Me? Let’s say that I don’t buy anything that says “target” on it.....
Nope -- no warning signs there. Nuh uh....
Sure looks like he was getting ready to do it, though, doesn't it? Pretty standard behavior for office shooters. Maybe you're suggesting they should have just waited until he actually did it?
By the way....I’m not only in favor of profiling in Airport lines; I am also in favor of profiling simply if you are Muslim....that good enough for you? Next time, address me by tag if you feel like carping...
