It's been said that the military is always preparing for war. That is true. We prepare for combat every day. We ran 5 miles today to the rifle range and shot nearly 200 rounds a piece at targets and then ran back. However, we also pray for peace. I would love one day to be completely unnecessary. But alas, I am a realist, and I know that day will never come.
The headlines of the last week have reminded me more of glimpsing at the S2 Daily Briefing Sheets while in theater or the Al-Jazeera than the NY Times or the Washington Post. Think about that for a moment, let it sink in.
Before I get into the main premise of this article - I need to make two statements here.
First and foremost , when it comes to the back and forth of who did what to whom and why - I don't give a @!$%#. It doesn't change the action. In life we're judged by our actions, nothing more, nothing less. One of the greatest things of the military is when it comes to an enemy, the politics behind the situation - don't matter in accomplishing that mission. For the military , life is simple in that regard.
Secondly, Regardless of your political ideology, you've earned the right as US Citizens to say your piece - no matter how wrong it may be. That is your right, and I will give my life to protect it.

Interesting article. Sounds pretty much like it was penned by a Bundist, though.
What he is saying is he will side with the government against the people, no matter how tyrannical the government may become. The author sounds like he’d have no problem if his government started rolling convoys filled with American citizens to concentration camps.
He sounds more like a Hessian than a Marine, perfectly happy and content to serve the government against the people.
Well, Marine — if in fact that’s what you really are — this old Air Force vet will fight you if you move against me and mine, and the country I hold dear (you see, I’m a patriot; and the difference between a patriot and a nationalist is a patriot loves his or her country and its principles; a nationalist loves his or her government). You are clearly much younger than I, and without a doubt in better physical shape, but you are going to have to kill me because I will not surrender to tyranny. And there are millions more who feel the same as I do. Because, you see, we would rather die than live as slaves.
I sure hope we never get to that point. Don’t you?
Well....I tend to agree with you....and WHY would an Active Duty Marine have the time or WANT to write this “blog”?
What say you chieftain...Your Marine Radar is very good.
Well, if Obama handicaps the troops with the same insane ROE as in Afghanistan, the civies could just pull it off.
Oh, I also forgot to correct the “Marine” on his assertion ours is a democracy. It is NOT a democracy: It is a consitutional republic.
If they ever vote to take away our guns, I think this Marine would have a dilemna on his hands.
"It? would never want to receive a frag order"...?
Odd to call himself It and say he'd follow orders to shoot his countrymen and women. But, that is something an "It" would do.
That's a threat I take seriously, but not a threat I'd expect from a Marine other than Murtha.
Well stated, ought-six.
TYFYS
Since we’re posting fiction today, here’s some fiction I find far more plausible as a preview of coming events than this post by a fictional Marine.
I found this fiction on the internet. This might be the next act.
INTERIOR UNDERGROUND DC PARKING GARAGE. BOTTOM LEVEL. NIGHT.
Libras footsteps echo off the walls. The buzz of a flickering neon light is heard. In the corner of the garage a whole sector of lights has gone dark. Shadows thicken. A lighter flickers in the darkness as a cigar is lit.
LIBRA: Carthago. Countersign?
CENTURION: Delenda est. Sort of overly dramatic dont you think?
LIBRA: Not paid to think. What is the assignment?
CENTURION: The Wing thinks its time to lay a little blue smoke between the mirrors. Take the heat off our team and torch the other side. Thats your job.
LIBRA: Fine. How wet does the Wing want it to get?
CENTURION: We project that if three team members are sent down it should put a stop to any attrition in November.
LIBRA: Wouldnt taking out just one serve the same purpose?
CENTURION: No. It has to look like a pattern.
LIBRA: Fine. Any particular team members you need erased?
CENTURION: Nobody from Chicago or San Francisco. And from safe seats only. We need to preserve the count. Renegades very keen on that.
LIBRA: Level of obfuscation?
CENTURION: None. Public and messy. Accidents would be counter productive. But no families. Renaissance would be upset.
LIBRA: Timing?
CENTURION: Within the next 10 days. It would be best if all three were within the same day.
LIBRA: You want target clearance and notification?
CENTURION: No. This will be the last contact for this contract.
LIBRA: Half to the Bahamas account by noon tomorrow and the half on completion to our friend in Costa Rica.
CENTURION: Done.
LIBRA: Anything else?
CENTURION: No. If we need you again we can always find you.
LIBRA: Thats what you people always think. Oh, by the way, was that stuff about you being naked in the showers the real deal?
CENTURION: Just get it done.
FADE TO BLACK
And, just so you know, “authors” at Newsvine are paid by the click, so we’re making the faux marine semi-wealthy:)
I read it up to the point where he started saying that the Marines would:A) be the first to be deployed to stop armed insurrection, and; B)that they would be bombing and strafing American civilians, and; C)that civil war is an assault on the Constitution.
To the authour of that article, may God bless and protect you for your service. May he also keep you from ever teaching a class on the Constitution of the United States.
Believable to you?
You once mentioned an incident with an "artillery simulator" going off a couple of feet behind you with, as I recall, no long-term damage.
They've gone off 150 (or so) from me and didn't come anywhere near "shattering teeth" or "perforating eardrums".
Its important to note that most of the people we send to Washington get their starts in our statehouses. Its not a requirement but it is a good way to get a look at how they legislate. I think instate races are too often overlooked and our ideological enemies are using that.
I haven’t looked at any other statehouses than my own here in Michigan, but we have serious problems in our future if we send many of these clowns to DC. I found several SEIU owned republicans to go along with virtually every democrat.
People tell me it can’t happen in their states but those people generally refuse to look.
I posted the entire fictional column by the fake marine down about reply 15 or so.
I'll give you a hint... most Marines in the War between the States ended up under the command of Lee.
But, that was then and this is now.
The US is not exempt from the laws of human nature. There will be those that decide they've had enough and desert the military. Likewise there will be those that remain in whatever constitutes the US military.
It WON'T be all or nothing. And because of that, I HIGHLY doubt we'll be worrying about US aircraft dropping 500 pounders in an American city.
This guy seems like a REMF. Or at the very least never been "in-the-s^^t" We've been fighting an insurgency in Iraq for almost 7 years. So, if he knew half of what he thought he did.... he would know hes full of it. A "civil war" in the US will not resemble the last one.... but more along the lines of insurgent militia forces against whatever constitutes the remaining national forces. Remember, many of these servicemembers have family that would take up arms. Is Sgt C really going to shoot at his brother, sister, uncle, neighbor, church Deacon. Killing someone isn't exactly pleasant. Would Sgt C, really feel comfortable patrolling through his parents neighborhood doing cordo-and-knocks? Would he feel comfortable shooting Mr. Jones with an M4... when MRS Jones used to babysit him and change his diapers? i think not.
That said most will try to stay out of it. Over retaliations of force (ie bombing raids) would do little more than cause more people to join the opposing forces.
This is especially so because the undecideds would be providing the capital to run the government's war machine through taxes and probably labor. Doing things like this "Sgt" claims would only push the undecides to being unproductive, counterproductive, or completely against them. This is especially critical because the US' borowing power would be severly limited in the event of a civil war..... who wants to buy Treasuries and have the government's side lose? Your investment is now worthless. Or even if the "government" won, the infrastructure is damaged and they have no way of paying you back.
This isn't 1865.... infrastructure is a bit more expensive to replace nowadays. Further, its only been within the last 25 years or so that the South has started to catch up and then finally pass the North..... the war ended in 1865... its 2010.
I also seem to remeber concentration camps being legal in Nazi Germany. I also seem to remember the legal atrocities commited by Sadam.... last I checked the majority of his military surrenderd and TURNED against the trannycal government providing aid and info to US forces.... oh yeah, and that woud be TWICE... Gulf War and OIF. remember how the actual ground phase of th Guld War lasted only 100 hours? The military gets longer than that off for Christmas.
And Iknow many disgruntled military members that are pissed about the nconstitutional power grabs.... Check out Oath Takers.
Yes a "civil war" would be messy, but this guy needs to learn a bit more before he speaks.
He needs to think about his extended family.
The original post certainly does point to the importance of recruiting as many military personnel as possible to one’s side in the event of a civil war.
Recruiting the officer corps, and special forces enlisted, would probably be best done by appealing to the constitution and the oath taken to preserve it. I think the political right of this country has an edge in that regard. The classes now being hosted by tea-party associations (at least the one I go to, in Northern California) about US history and the US constitution could be useful in that regard. Having a good command of historical facts and the traditions of our nation might be very useful in attempts to recruit some military members.
Recruiting enlisted personnel outside of special forces might not be so easy for the political right. I don’t know what would be the best strategy to attract those persons. Any thoughts?
So then who wrote the opinion piece?
Liberals, to see how far they could draw us out to “reveal” attitudes that would be then used against us in the court of public opinion or worse?
But wouldn’t they also be worried that this piece would be discussed and debunked all over thoughtful Conservative websites like this one, and completely rebutted therefore?
ping
lol.
That is very realistic.
Your right about my 2012 scenario being fiction, it could happen in 2011 instead.
There was opposition in Hitlers own army and some indeed tried to expel him, and they were correct in doing so, yet paid the price for trying. God bless those that tried.
