It's been said that the military is always preparing for war. That is true. We prepare for combat every day. We ran 5 miles today to the rifle range and shot nearly 200 rounds a piece at targets and then ran back. However, we also pray for peace. I would love one day to be completely unnecessary. But alas, I am a realist, and I know that day will never come.
The headlines of the last week have reminded me more of glimpsing at the S2 Daily Briefing Sheets while in theater or the Al-Jazeera than the NY Times or the Washington Post. Think about that for a moment, let it sink in.
Before I get into the main premise of this article - I need to make two statements here.
First and foremost , when it comes to the back and forth of who did what to whom and why - I don't give a @!$%#. It doesn't change the action. In life we're judged by our actions, nothing more, nothing less. One of the greatest things of the military is when it comes to an enemy, the politics behind the situation - don't matter in accomplishing that mission. For the military , life is simple in that regard.
Secondly, Regardless of your political ideology, you've earned the right as US Citizens to say your piece - no matter how wrong it may be. That is your right, and I will give my life to protect it.

FRiend, I'm congratulating you, not disparaging you....;)
He's quite the little attention whore.
Saw it...not impressed in the least...
Benadict arnold was a decorated officer...
Yeah, I tend to think this whole "message from the Sergeant Major" is nonsense, too.
But it does bring up the interesting discussion about just what we ought to do were such a drastic situation happen. We don't like to think about it, and I think only an idiot hopes it would happen, but all the same, a civil war in America could happen. We're not gods on this earth, immune from the trials of other men, after all.
Personally, I think that if such a thing were to happen here, it would NOT be because "right wing Tea Partiers" started it. It would happen because of one of two things (or perhaps both, working synergistically):
1) The government reaches a critical point where the mask comes off, and it just doesn't have to pretend to operate within the rule of law anymore. In such a case, expect random checkpoints, confiscation of firearms, shuttling of potential troublemakers to concentration camps, and neighbours who just "disappear" one day, never to be heard from again. Expect these, in return, to provoke a violent response from the remaining citizenry, or at least a good portion of it.
2) The government finally goes so broke that it can't even borrow money to write out IOUs anymore. At this point, among other things, the welfare checks will stop going out, and expect hordes of, ah, urban dwellers to suddenly figure out that the benjamins ain't coming in anymore, and they're gonna need food after the local Burger Kings and McDonalds have been picked clean. The country and suburban folks better have a plan for defending themselves in an organised fashion.
Either way, it's an ugly scenario in the way that only civil wars can be ugly. Nobody in their right mind hopes for that. that's why we have a legislative process and voting, to circumvent the necessity for a civil war every time we want the government to change.
Well My Sincere Apologies that some Marines are not real bright.
;-(
For what it's worth, the Marine LAV and [at least some] Strykers are built in Canada.
Sgt C USMC
"I'm hearing that according to the detective investigating, it's looking more and more like an errant round and less like a direct attack . Downward angle at impact, more glass damage (the more damage to the glass, the less energy the bullet has it strikes it, slower velocity = further distance) That's a good thing.
"As a reformed sniper, a Combat Marksmenship Instructor, and a licensed CCWP holder, I feel compelled to tell all of the proud practictioners of their second amendment rights and reiterate what you've heard a thousand times (or should've)
"Always know your target, and what lies beyond it! Just because you're shooting cans on a hillside at 25 yards with a 22 rifle, doesn't mean that bullet doesn't have the energy to kill someone a mile away. And trust me, you don't want to live with the burden of having taking another's life by accident.
"While Rep Cantor and I are of differing political ideologies, I'm glad that he wasn't hurt in this incident. But he (and all of us) shouldn't jump to conclusions on anything. Granted news nowadays is up to the minutes, and with speed comes reduced efficiency, so we should all wait for the story to develop."
I started laughing when this pole smoker started comparing things to Fallujah. A thousand patchwork terrorist imports surrounded in a city out in the middle of the desert is a pea shoot compared to what an all out civil war here would be.
I live in rural podunk Iowa. My county has 40,000 people, the counties that border mine have another 100,000. Towns every 10 miles or so, subdivisions, several houses every square mile in the country. Roads and backroads, creeks, rivers, nook and crannies, miles and miles of woods and hills and places to hide. More guns and ammo than one could possibly count. Generations of ex-military. Thousands upon thousands around you coming from all sides.
That’s bascially about the same scenario in about everything east of the Missouri river, except way hillier down south. Get’s even better out west. Then you have dozens of medium to large cities. It will NOT be Fallujah. It will be 10,000 Fallujahs all at once. Try covering all that across the entire US with our military. You’ll have ten thousand firefights going on simultaneously. Try providing close air support and supply lines for all those. It’s a logisitical nightmare for any commander.
That’s why we tried to keep the civiliam population on our side in Iraq. They knew what would happen if the population rose up against our troops. That’s why Japan didn’t invade us, why Germany lost at Stalingrad. So I hope that ‘Marine’ tries out their wet dream, he’ll reap a whirlwind he cannot conceive.
Thanks for grabbing that. The link now goes to “entry deleted”.
Nice catch. So the brave SGT is dem/lib. No wonder he writes about fantasies of surpressing conservatives by force.
In a hot war red vs. blue, red has a problem obtaining armor. Blue has the edge there, for sure. Hopefully red's navy can keep red's army resupplied with tanks. Red does OK against blue with aircraft airframes and weapons, although jet engines are a problem for red.
Ran 5 miles and back again just to shoot 200 rounds? Sounds like a civilian who thinks 200 rounds is a lot of rounds.
He is starting to get hit in the comment section of that site now as well.
OH My God. The guy is for real and is the very rare, leftist commie Marine. Glad he is in the tiny minority.
Great post. My cousin was telling me the 101st Airborne would come down on us. (I don’t know where gets I was even calling for a rebellion. Like the typcical liberal they refuse to answer the questions you ask but they’re quick to answer questions that haven’t even been asked.) I pointed out to him that the 101st is made up of more patriots than liberals.
I hope November does the trick. But, like I’ve been saying, we need to be prepared. We can’t put anything past these anti American socialists.
What do you think would happen if a “crises” presented itself and O suspended the elections? Or worse, refused to allow the winners to be sworn in.
Ahhh.....starting to make more sense now.
I’m not buying that this guy is a Marine at all. My BS flag is WAY up.
I guess if you post pictures of yourself, while employed in the USMC, having a great time, then post rants about how you will kill US civilians......I can see how people would not take kindly to that. Sgt C's profile on that liberal site will be gone before morning...
