Congressional Staffers Complain About Double Standard in Health Care Law
FOXNews ^ | Jana Winter

Posted on 03/25/2010 11:23:39 AM PDT by Upstate NY Guy

Select congressional leadership staffers -- some of whom wrote the health insurance act -- are not governed by new rules governing millions of Americans and the rest of their colleagues on how they buy insurance -- and the special exemption has the Hill hopping mad... ..and neither will White House staffers and Cabinet members -- nor the president himself. They will be allowed to keep their current plans, which are offered to all other federal employees.

And now many congressional aides who like their current health insurance policies and will be forced to switch are asking: Why? They want to know: If an exchange is good enough for them, why isn't it good enough for the people who wrote the plan? Why isn't it good enough for the president and his Cabinet?

This would be serious if attempted by Republicans(Unlikely). Democratic serfs will shut-up and behave or Nancy and Harry will have them punished. Those headed for the Sovietski style of 'tiled urinal' medical care, with the rest of us, will just shut up and live with it.

"If we're forced on the exchange, then everyone should be," a Democratic staffer said.

Your Pres--ent Obama says you're just going to love the new law. You really are! Don't you trust him?

Apparently she didn’t hear that if she likes her current plan, she won’t have to change a thing.

The losely worded exemption is on page 158 and found in http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2477246/posts
I knew there was an exemption in the senate version, (likewise the house) and I think most house members who voted for it thought they were exempted as well.

Well like Pelosi said.. “We have to pass the bill to know what’s in it”. Members of her staff, Waxman’s, Obey’s and others in leadership who conjured up this POS are exempt. Grassley, (R Senate IA) was making noise about it but it didn’t get into the recon-silly-ation bill as a correction which has gone to the House and now being voted on.

I did use the charge as a lead in the three flyers against Commiecare I made up. Which were posted in FR’s and sent to other FR activists in swing districts but probably sat in their “in box”. Two pieces I know were used in the IL 5th to sway Lipinski
These can be reviewed in http://www.theusmat.com/home.htm

“”If the no policy fine is less than it would cost to keep insurance, everyone in the moocher class will certainly choose the latter route.””

If this is the case then anyone who would buy ZeroCare insurance without being sick is a dope, yes?

What happens if nobody buys the insurance? lol...

That’s the ‘rub’. Even if the moocher doesn’t buy the insurance and pay the fine, they’re still paying a ‘tax’ into the ‘system’, which basically goes to the government. The problem is that ‘tax’ will never be seen by the insurance co’s, who likely will one day have to cover the last-minute-moocher at 100% their expense, even when said moocher haven’t bothered contributing premiums prior to signing up and filing claims immediately.

It’s a bait-and-switch scam on a grand scale.

I’m waiting to see what happens to Tricare (military) trembling with fear.....

Actually, I think Tricare got exempted in a separate bill after healthcare was voted in - waiting for my MOAA mag to come in order to confirm ...

Stop the tape! Didn't Obama tell us that if we liked the coverage we had, we could keep it? Three days after this bill was passed, we find out that Congressional staffers are complaining that their coverage will change. Go figure.

Three words: “EQUAL PROTECTION CLAUSE”.

Democrats have been fighting against equal protection for over 140 years now. One never-changing constant in this world is the Democrats' contempt for Amendment XIV.

I don’t understand what part of the new law says the non-exempt staffers have to give up their gov’t insurance and go to the exchange. Would that be if the gov’t decides they aren’t going to provide healthcare benefits any longer? That’s unlikely..

Thank you very much. I was giving Suzanna Kosmas a hard time yesterday during her tele town hall, but I see that I incorrectly worded my question/statemen to her when I asked if the bill was so great why did the Congress exclude itself and staffers and the Pres ent.

Of course her answer was that there was a lot of misinformation, that members would indeed be held to the same requirements and I guess technicaaly that’s a correct answer though not entirely.

Oh I made that charge during the House vote because much was made of it in the House package. Even Massa made reference to giving his plan up when he made a speech before a group outside his district announcing he was in favor of single payer.

The thing about making a charge like this, is that it has to be refuted. I think most House members actually believed they were exempted
This is one I developed to be printed on a post card and if sent by Email it would fit neatly on one.

Dear_____________ I Truly believe this is the way you view US:__
“It’s cuz Yer Dumb n I’m smarter den youze!”
Smart enough not to be a part of our “healthcare”
But able to tell US; How to live, and who’s to die !
Smart enough not to be a part of it ? ....You vote for this we’re gonna
make sure you are part of our “Healthcare”. ! Time to remind everyone about
the Canadian Prime Minister (governor) of the Canadian province of Newfoundland
who decided that the health system in Canada did not offer a better
alternative to his desperate health condition went to Florida to be operated on.
Point being the only alternative the Canadian PM had was to leave his country
because he was part of, as should you, and not be exempted from the system
as you are....If you don’t think we’re angry...Better think again
I PLEDGE SUPPORT FOR ANY REFERENDUM REQUIRING
OUR US LEGISLATORS BELONG TO OUR HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
THEY CREATED FOR US
