Pro-life Democrats, R.I.P.
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 03-23-10 | WILLIAM MCGURN

Bart Stupak's vote for the health bill shows that in the end you can't count on prolife Democrats.

And then there were none.

When Bart Stupak announced Sunday he was now a "yes" on the health-care bill, six Democrats stood with him. Even that handful would have been enough to defeat the bill. Instead, they accepted the fig leaf of an executive order—and threw away all the hard-won gains they had made.

Amid the recriminations it's easy to overlook what Mr. Stupak had cobbled together. His amendment restricting federal funding for abortions, passed in November, marked the only bipartisan vote in this whole health-care mess. For the first time since Roe v. Wade, pro-life Democrats had seized the legislative initiative in the teeth of their leadership's opposition—and brought the party of abortion to heel.

Now Mr. Stupak has thrown it away. By caving at the last hour, he discredited all who stood with him. (What does it say about Ohio's Marcy Kaptur and Pennsylvania's Chris Carney that they had already agreed to vote yes even before the fig leaf of the executive order had come through?) In addition to undermining an encouraging partnership with pro-lifers across the congressional aisle, Mr. Stupak signaled that, in the end, you can't count on pro-life Democrats.

I’m looking at the numbers of Pro-Lifers and the current make-up of Congress and something doesn’t add up. Either there are not that many Pro Lifers or many don’t vote that way.

This will be interesting to watch. Starting in 2006, the rats have been trying to move to the right on various issues, being pro-life was one of them. A slight majority of the under 30 year old cohort that voted two to one for Obama doesn’t approve of abortion either.

Are these people really prolife? How can they be when they make deals with the lives of unborn babies? Is human life worth nothing to them?

It’s disgusting. Then they get to be the fall guy for the biggest failure of all, Obama. How moronic can you get?

I seriously want to save this picture to remind me how I never, ever want to look.
The look of consequence.
No matter how well its sold, it's still a deal with the devil.

He was going to vote for it, he said so at a town hall in Michigan last fall. Executive Orders cannot override current law. If that was the case, George W. Bush could have overturned Roe v. Wade with the stroke of a pen.

Rush pointed out on his show a couple of weeks ago that Bart Stupak supports abortion in that he votes in favor of appropriations bills that fund Planned Parenthood among other things. I would venture to posit that none of the so called "pro-life" democrats votes against the appropriations bills.

I don't know the professed religions of the so called pro-life democrats, but the Christian and Jewish faiths have this little thing called the 10 Commandments. Thou shalt not kill............

Bart Stupak also favors rendering unto Caesar more than what is Caesar's, as does Karl Marx.

They didn’t have to get the goods on him although he got his 30 pieces of silver. He has always been a democrap and all that that entails. He’s made no bones about his left positions on anything, even Maobamacare. He will condescend to tell you in TV and radio interviews how you are expected to pay for others needs and always has.

These Democrat scu&bags referred to returning soldiers, in the 1960’s and ‘70’s, as baby killers.

These same Democrats have actually, with extreme prejudice and contempt, killed millions of babies for the last fourty years, calling it the “right to choose”.

Absolutely amazing.

IMHO

There never were any pro life Democrats, only phonies who were good at fooling those who wanted to be fooled with lines like the one used by that scumbag Carolyn McCarthy of Long Island. She once answered a question about whether she is pro life with this gem” Hey I’m Irish Catholic and a nurse, what do you think my position is?”
As I said there only ever was smooth talking phonies.

Bart Stupak's vote for the health bill shows that in the end you can't count on prolife Democrats.

That should be the rallying cry of every Republican running against these allegedly 'pro-life' Dems in the Nov. election.

Catholics in his district and the clergy should shun this stinking rat.

It has already begun, and not just among Catholics. The Susan B. Anthony List had planned to honor him with a 'courage' award next week, but announced yesterday that the honor was being rescinded in light of his betrayal. And at least one Catholic group has withdrawn an invitation for him to speak at an upcoming Prayer Breakfast.

These Dems are going to learn that they were cannon fodder all along for Obama. He used them to get elected, he used them for furthering his agenda, and used their Catholicism to confuse voters. Obama doesn't really care if they are re-elected in November, or not. He plans to get what he wants up til then, then he thinks he can coast the remaining two years, and leave the Presidency with the country exactly the way he wanted it to be, in tatters.
