House to kick it back to SENATE??

Posted on 03/20/2010 8:37:27 PM PDT by AeroFANatic

OK, here is what I am thinking can/will happen. The first vote for RECONCILITION will pass, something like 222 YES votes...

THEN, the very next vote...for the actual SENATE BILL will fail with only say 214 YES votes...

This in effect passes the political hot potato to the SENATE to take it back up. The HOUSE did their deed, passing the changes they want...its now back to the SENATE to go thru with it and make career altering votes.

Am I onto something????

As I recall from my school House rock days, you need a vote in both Houses.

The House has to pass it back to the Senate with a vote or it is defeated in the House and they start all over.

Then it’s dead. The GOP in the Senate has the 41 votes to kill any continuing HC legislation.

You may be right. When they said dem and pass was dead it was obvious something was up. The question was what?

The problem is (as has been noted by numerous pundits, Mark Steyn especially) if the House votes “yes” on the Senate bill then Obama can sign it then and there, making it law and say “ta, ta, game over”.

Leaving the House holding the bag.

That’s why they’ve been demanding the Senate sign a letter promising to hold the reconciliation vote. But there are no guarantees.

Learn how to spell “reconciliation”, then post a vanity on same.

I say the Houses passes the Senate bill and their own reconciliation bill, which then needs to be approved by the Senate. But that may take some time — so they tell Obama to just sit on the Senate bill, don’t sign it until the reconciliation mess is cleared up. Then he signs both bills at the same time and we proceed to be screwed.

Of course Obama could just sign the Senate bill into law and veto the reconciliation bill and say screw you suckers!

The Dems are still playing hockey with the health bill. Now that the House looks like they will punt, I think they will throw it back to the Senate who will use reconciliation to pass the amended House package by 50 or 51 votes instead of the 60 they needed before. Then the Senate will toss it back to the House which still hasn’t passed a bill from the Senate.

It seems like there are only so many times you can beat a dead horse before it collapses under its own weight. That’s what I hope to happen to this bill.

If a reconciliation bill passes, but then the ACTUAL BILL does not pass....does that mean the bill is DEAD? OR does it mean the senate could “revive” the bill by attaching it to the ALREADY PASSED reconciliation bill?

This is what I am saying. I fully could see Pelosi doing something like this, to take the heat off her caucus and put it squarely back into the senates hands. After all, the house hates the Senate bill...but they would have done the job by “amending” it to their liking??

Apparently, today the Senate Parliamentarian reversed his previous ruling saying that the Senate could take up the House reconciliation bill even without a Senate bill having passed. If so, the Senate bill could fail in the House and the Senate could still proceed under reconciliation in the Senate. This makes no sense to rational people because how can you reconcile spending with legislation that doesn’t exist just as the Parliamentarian advised last week. Somehow today, he was enlightened with a way to make that happen. Figures.

BTW, my post above means the Senate could pass health care with 51 votes without the approval of the House on the original Senate bill.

Here’s where I’m confused. As I remember from 9th grade civics...long long time ago in a galaxy far far away...it starts in the house and they vote first. But the senate has already voted on this. So I don’t understand what happened up to this point(and why) and I don’t quite understand what is next.

Both houses have to pass the SAME bill regardless of whether it’s original or amended. It’s dead in the Senate. GOP = 41 votes.

It may be the escape hatch of no return. Yea, I think you may be on to something.

Would THAT not be hysterical.... At that point a note of hysteria ought to permeate every Democrat on the hill, and people will start breaking towards their constituents. At some point or another, these buggers are going to have to go home, and face the people, live with the people as one of them. Think that might get a tad bit uncomfortable after a while? I think so.

They are NOT going to find any love. Nope, no joy. Those that donate to their campaigns will find themselves brought to task by the PUBLIC who will DEMAND that the company stop supporting this liberal Huzzah who voted this crap in. The ripples of THIS moment in history are breathtaking in some ways.

The sleeping Giant is awake. We are the sleeping giant, and we are awake now to what our government is, what it once was, and the recognition that the two are VERY different. The sleeping giant... is those of us who are awake to what those in DC are and have been doing for decades. The ever continuing expansion itself.

We are awake to the fact that we do NOT like it.

Its time to take more than a few steps back on what Government can do, and what its ROLE was intended to be. Mostly out of our way, not telling us how much to pay for cow farts polluting the air with their “Bio-Waste” BS. (Pun intended)

It’s awake and its hungry. What do you think its hungry for? *hint its not what progressives want them to want..... Oh no, meat’s back on the menu boys, the tide has turned. Either Sunday, or when the states legally challenge the law with SCOTUS (oh believe it there will be many lawsuits filed in the minutes after the house passes the monstrosity) or Nov 2nd. Oh yea, there’s gonna be hell to pay in a LOT of ways.

The democrats utterly underestimate us. They are about to get p’wned one way or another, and they have no clue. Too bad Nancy doesn’t read the polls eh?

LOL I bet he will have fun explaining that reversal to SCOTUS!!! Oh yea, we have got to get all the contacts that we as the public can get of SCOTUS on the internet. Get the live streaming links and what not, I think we are about to go on SCOTUS watch. Be nice to have all that set up ahead of time. This is going to appear before the bench I fear.

But then again, it might just completely fail tomorrow, in which case I will promptly get drunk and celebrate!
