Holding to form, Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, announced Saturday that he would oppose his party's health reform bill, just like he did when the House version came up for a vote late last year.
Matheson, a conservative Democrat and leader of the Blue Dog caucus, said he is convinced the massive $940 billion bill would "leave our nation worse off."
"I am saddened that the year-long debate on health reform has resulted in legislation that is too expensive, contains too many special deals, does not contain health care costs and will result in increases in health insurance premiums and therefore I will vote against the legislation," he said.
Let’s not get cocky now. Keep up the pressure.
We have to pray our hearts out that the pro-life dems stand srong.
He was just nominated. The nomination will likely be pulled. This guy Matheson has some stones, I’ll give him that.
Only dems can vote for Speaker. The GOP has no say in the matter. You could see an intra-party “coup”, but I doubt that. The dems likely know Pelosi will be gone as speaker after the election anyway.
There should be $1,000,000 Money Bombs for every person who votes NO and the Challenger to anyone who votes YES, regardless of party.
Keep Praying they would not be doing this if they had the votes

Senior Dem staffer says abortion/executive order deliberations will take place tonight at the White House.
Stupak won’t be there... Dem staffer says “this still isn’t nailed do
D-Utah
There’s always a Republican candidate, but usually one with no money, no connections, and far too often, one who is certifiably crazy. For such a conservative state, it’s amazing that we can’t find someone sane with deep pockets to oppose Matheson in the 2nd.
Yeah, he’s a good egg. I remember when he was first elected, and Rob Bishop (our rep.)boasted that he (Matheson) was just about as conservative as he himself was! I don’t remember the exact quote. But he said something to the effect that he and Matheson worked together on several issues!
That said, I hope he stands firm and doesn’t give in! I would be surprised and very disappointed if he did!
You know, I am so sick of the tired argument that the government has to stay out of women’s bodies. Roe v Wade PUT the government into women’s bodies. There are consequences for all decisions we all make. If women decided to kill their child by coat hanger abortions, that was THEIR choice. The resulting death of a woman by making a terrible medical decision is NOT the responsibility of the government. Should we legislate the self-amputation of a women’s arm or leg, or breast because of cancer? No sane person would cut off a limb and expect to survive. The risks we take result in consequences. Legislating self-treatment is ludicrious. What we have permitted since 1972 in the name of “care” is a grave sin and a horrendous legal decision.
hate to say it, but I was right... all the late no votes trickling in was just for show. The outcome was pre-ordained weeks ago. The only issue was who would have to vote yes and who would get to vote no.
Well, Chet, if you look at my AUGUST blog on www.patriotshistoryusa.com, I called this too. Nor did I think any Dems had courage. I just thought they were holding out for the best deal possible.
