WashTimes OpEd: Impeach the President?
The Washington Times ^ | Friday, March 19, 2010 | Jeffrey T. Kuhner

SNIP

Mr. Obama is imposing a leftist revolution. Since coming to office, he has behaved without any constitutional restraints. The power of the federal government has exploded. He has de facto nationalized key sectors of American life - the big banks, financial institutions, the automakers, large tracts of energy-rich land from Montana to New Mexico. His cap-and-trade proposal, along with a newly empowered Environmental Protection Agency, seeks to impose massive new taxes and regulations upon industry. It is a form of green socialism: Much of the economy would fall under a command-and-control bureaucratic corporatist state. Mr. Obama even wants the government to take over student loans.

SNIP

The Slaughter Solution is a poisoned chalice. By drinking from it, the Democrats would not only commit political suicide. They would guarantee that any bill signed by Mr. Obama is illegitimate, illegal and blatantly unconstitutional. It would be worse than a strategic blunder; it would be a crime - a moral crime against the American people and a direct abrogation of the Constitution and our very democracy.

It would open Mr. Obama, as well as key congressional leaders such as Mrs. Pelosi, to impeachment. The Slaughter Solution would replace the rule of law with arbitrary one-party rule. It violates the entire basis of our constitutional government - meeting the threshold of "high crimes and misdemeanors." If it's enacted, Republicans should campaign for the November elections not only on repealing Obamacare, but on removing Mr. Obama and his gang of leftist thugs from office.

It is time Americans drew a line in the sand. Mr. Obama crosses it at his peril.

I think driving slowly around the Capitol streets until it gridlocks is feasible.

I do too! I think storming the Capitol is all right also. Stop them from conducting business. Our liberty is at stake! Those damn people are not listening.

I would also like to camp out on the Capitol grounds. Could they possibly run-off 500,000 of us?

No they couldn’t. A group of people that big has its own dynamic. If the common meme among the 500K was simply, “get as close to the Capitol as possible,” that is all it would take.

Right! Down and dirty by the numbers. I’ve had it.

Those people are not listening. His presidency is on the line.

Never mind about OUR REPUPLIC or the CONSITUTION they all swore to defend and uphold.

Amen, and the only reason the CPC and their allies the CPUSA get away with this is the utter incompetence of the RNC and the blue blood country clubbers.

Its the Perfect Storm, a POTUS to the left of the CPUSA and a GOP led by ??? and an RNC led by an idiot who shuffles race cards and listens to "Social Media"

All hell is about to break loose.

Senators can be impeached as can all govt officials.

You may see that written in the Constitution. But the US Senate is on record as not seeing it there. I'd thought like you until I read some history in the run up to Clinton's impeachment. The operative clause is Article II, Sect. 4:

The president, vice-president and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.

The Senate ruled that Senators weren't "civil officers" of the United States and thus weren't subject to impeachment. I don't know their reasoning, nor whatever meaning "civil officers" had in English common law, which I presume should have provided such definitions back in 1797. Thus I don't know enough to know whether their ruling was justified or just arrogant, but it's not been challenged since. You can only expel a US Senator. I DO recall, and suspect you will also, Dungheap Harkin at the start of Clinton's "trial" getting Rehnquist to rule essentially that the Senate could set its own rules for it. Perhaps that applied in 1797 as well.

Personally I'd like to impeach Bill Clinton from the civil office of "former President." Remove his staff, his pension, his SS protection (Clinton said it wasn't needed and time limited it for every President after him) and reduce him to hiding behind Hillary's skirts. Officially shun him for a legacy. None of the political excuses then against convicting him apply now, and most of those then voting against conviction now admit he was guilty.

I’m just trying to imagine what America would be like under President Joe Biden.

Trust me - if we get Obama out, Biden will be sitting in that chair scared s***less. He will do his best to remain invisible until his term is up. Power to the people!

Yes we could and since we’re no longer following the Constitution, we could deem Sarah Palin president.

When Sarah Palin is running for President her signs should read "Vote for or Deem in Palin 2012"

Senators can be impeached as can all govt officials. And it just takes 2/3 of the Senators PRESENT for the vote to do so.

Senators can be impeached as can all govt officials. And it just takes a majority of the "House of Representatives" PRESENT for the vote to do so. Clinton was Impeached!

It just takes 2/3 vote of the Senators PRESENT to remove from office! Its called a trial when it gets to the Senate.

Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson were the only 2 Presidents to be Impeached by the House. Then tried in Senate, Johnson was one vote short of be "removed from office". Clinton was I was between 9 to 15 votes from being removed from office, so in was not close. A lot of freepers get this mixed.

Push and push and push, the people revolt, he calls in his forces to crush the rebellion and installs a dictatorship. His Indonesian childhood did not serve him well.

Who are "his forces". Without exception every US military man I've spoken to opposes his. Who's he going to call? Ghostbusters???

Clinton was Impeached!

Sorry for the mistakes from previous post, I'm a little tired.

Senators can be impeached as can all govt officials. And it just takes a majority of the "House of Representatives" PRESENT for the vote to do so. Clinton was Impeached!

It just takes 2/3 vote of the Senators PRESENT to remove from office! It's called a trial when it gets to the Senate. Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson were the only 2 Presidents to be Impeached by the House. They had trails in the Senate.

Johnson was one vote short of being "removed from office" in the Senate. Clinton was between 9 to 15 (?) votes from being removed from office in the Senate, so it was not close.

A lot of freepers get this mixed up.

His “forces” would be his merry band of Obamacore and college malcontents. Had I meant military, I would have written “military”.

They’re relentless and make one wonder what they’re thinking in DC.

It is mind boggling that Graham and Schumer are warming up for the amnesty push now.

Are they that insulated from reality or are they simply malicious?
