Sean Hannity’s Freedom CONcert Scam
Debbie Schlussel Blog Post ^ | March 18, 2010 | Debbie Schlussel

Posted on 03/18/2010 12:54:44 PM PDT by TRY ONE

For the last several years, Sean Hannity and the Freedom Alliance “charity” have conducted “Freedom Concerts” across America. They’ve told you that they are raising money to pay for the college tuition of the children of fallen soldiers and to pay severely wounded war vets. And on Friday Night, Hannity will be honored with an award for this “Outstanding Community Service by a Radio Talk Show Host” at Talkers Magazine’s convention.

But it’s all a huge scam.

Something is fishy with this schlussel piece. It reads similar to a hit piece done by the Daily Kos back in 2007. Same allegations....

According to the charitable ratings folks who's job is to look at all this federal paperwork, the Alliance has a four star rating, and according to their docs, Hannity is but a donor and not associated with the charity.

I have not been able to find anything yet that states anything that I did not already know, and that is that Hannity is a charitable donor. A portion of the ticket price goes to the alliance, more than ten million so far. The military and families get is free and the rest is used for expenses.

That's it! No drama needed. The Kos kids and Dummy Schlussel are out in left field somewhere. I know Hannity pees in the KOS cereal daily, by what Dummy S is up to, I don't know. Maybe she needs press or something.

They’re not giving their money to the troops

They are supposed to be giving the money to the children of soldiers in the 2020's, not to the troops this year.

Uh??? Hannity never left. He still has daily threads here for his shows, he posts here as well. He never told anyone to stop going to FR? Why would he, he posts here as does his staff. As does Mark Levin.

Her agenda is to take the spot light off of Obama.

She couldn’t be more obvious. And the underground liberal trolls on this thread, need to know they stick out like a sore thumb. You know who you are.

He spends WAY too much time providing a forum for marxists that we aren't interested in hearing from in the first place...

Ain't that the truth. He lets them talk over him until it escalates into an unlistenable screaming match. I hate that.

He's an intellectual lightweight who only seems to be able to cover ground already plowed by others.

That being said, I hope he is not guilty of these charges. We need every conservative talk show host we can get, even mediocre ones.

Race is right. What he is telling you is absolutely true.

We have not seen him since, but he could be here under another handle. He sure ain't talkin to us.

Either way, people are getting their money's worth, the kids and the troops are getting money they wouldn't normally get, and the people who are traveling are not forced to come out of their own pockets.

I don't see what the problem is here. If people don't like it, don't go to the concerts. Nothing is stopping them from donating directly to the troops or the kids.

Read the tax returns for the organization. In 2007 they took in almost $10.000,000 but dispersed less than $400,000 to wounded vets and in scholarship monies. That is pitiful bordering on criminal.

One has to ask where the other $9,600,000 went. The return lists over $10 million in stocks owned by the organization.

I know how to read these returns (so do a bunch of other freepers of course). If I saw these numbers associated with any not-for-profit they would never see a penny from me.

Wrong...Hannity is a conservative. If/when/maybe already has met Jim Robinson, Hannity would honor him for many reasons. Doubt that Hannity is against Jim Robinson and Free Republic as Jim Robinson is a Veteran worthy of respect and Sean Hannity respects those who have put their lives on the line.

I do not disagree, but it does look like someone played fast and loose with the numbers here.

Hannity aside, I tend to trust Oliver North to do the right thing. This is his creation, not Hannity’s. And has been noted, you can’t very well hand a check to a three year old for their college. If it’s all set aside...

The Salvation Army is my current favorite too. ;)

2008 revenue > $12 million

2008 grants < $1.4 million

2008 Assets > $19 million

2008 income from investments > 1.4 million

They pay out about the amount the get off their investments! The donations don’t even get to the troops anymore!

Go here and look at something you can understand:

http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=6590

Try to have faith in heroic Americans like Col Oliver North, Sean Hannity, Charlie Daniels, Jon Voight, Lee Greenwood and hundreds of others who work hard to help this wonderful organization help our military and their families.

BTW, the author of the “article” doesn’t tell you that Freedom Alliance has numerous programs...she gives you a taste of one and misrepresents the meaning of the IRS statements. Freedom Alliance spends about 80% of it’s expenditures directly into it’s programs.

And I WILL say again...from their tax return: 10 million in, less than 400k out to kids. What is not clear? Your answer was a quibble...does not work here. Data are your friend, spunky...

Well, you do not understand the honor of the people behind the Freedom Alliance, it is an incredibly good organization with people who do good all over the world for our people in service and their children. This person who is slandering them obviously distorts facts to make them appear worse than what they are. For instance, taking private planes for some of the celebrities is common practice all over the country. I can tell you my niece who also works with Freedom

Can you explain why they have assets of over $19 million, income of over $12 million a year and pay out only about $1.4 million in grants? The income they get from the investment of the $19 million is more than the grants given. That means, in effect, that the present donations don't make it to the troops but are absorbed by 'expenses'.

I'm looking at a disbursement for 887K right now. Yes there is a 400K disbursement and a crap load of other program expenses and set asides.

Like I said in a earlier post, this organization is rated with four stars for their efficiency and amount of money that gets to where it needs to go.

BTW, Hannity has nothing to do with it. He is a donor. The Concerts are collaborations with all sorts of people and are not associated with Freedom alliance. They put these things on with a lot of donated talent and give a portion of the proceeds to the Alliance.

This Schlussel piece is the same sort of piece that the Daily Kos did in 2007. It's bogus!

Yes, grants are a small part of what they do, it is just one of the programs. They also fly relatives to visit overseas hospitalized wounded military personnel, they pay air, hotel, food, etc. They also ship care packages overseas and have other programs as well.

They spend about 80% of their expenditures directly on their programs...their administrative expenditures make up almost 5% of their costs.
