Should Obama Send His Science Team on a National Campaign to Explain Climate Science? (Green Barf)

It's been a couple months of seriously bad PR for climate science, both due to unfortunate errors made by scientists and (okay, mostly) a well-funded noise machine intent on preserving the status quo at any cost. So how can climate scientists dig themselves out of the negative publicity trench and help reeducate the public on the dangers of climate change? The answer's not debating skeptics on TV, that's for sure. So would a full-on national media blitz by Obama's Nobel Prize winning science team--Stephen Chu and John Holdren--help do the trick?

That's what Climate Progress's Joe Romm suggests, after taking advice from a recent editorial in the scientific journal Nature.

Here's an excerpt from the Nature article entitled Climate of Fear:

The integrity of climate research has taken a very public battering in recent months. Scientists must now emphasize the science, while acknowledging that they are in a street fight.

Climate scientists are on the defensive, knocked off balance by a re-energized community of global-warming deniers who, by dominating the media agenda, are sowing doubts about the fundamental science. Most researchers find themselves completely out of their league in this kind of battle because it's only superficially about the science. The real goal is to stoke the angry fires of talk radio, cable news, the blogosphere and the like, all of which feed off of contrarian story lines and seldom make the time to assess facts and weigh evidence. Civility, honesty, fact and perspective are irrelevant.

And all that is exactly why it's all but futile for a climate scientist to go on TV to attempt to refute anti-science misinformation. So what to do? Scientists, who were never trained for and therefore aren't particularly adept at "street fights" aren't the ideal candidates to get in the ring.

Obama and his science team should to the 57 Islamic
states which Pres_ _ent Obama represents and serves,
and join NASA in teaching them that GLOBAL WARMING
is as real as Obama’s American natural born citizenship.

Yes. They should go out.

Here are the very reasonable, very scientific ground rules: tell us what the numbers are (temperatures, sea levels) and how you obtained them, in detail.

DON’T tell us what computer models say is going to happen in 40 years.

Seems simple to me.

Or else, they should simply GO OUT.

I guess he could do that if he really needs to BLOW some more taxpayer dollars. We the People would just send out some real scientists to follow them around and make corrections.

I had one of these liberal wackos use the typical condescending argument that the debate over Global Warming is really about believing in Science or not believing in Science.
Now, that has got to be one of the most paradoxical things I have ever heard. Since when is debate suppose to end on a subject that has only been seriously studied for a few decades at most?

I think after all the news that came out against these alarmists there was one bombshell that topped it all off.

I’m sure y’all heard of the methane leak in the East Siberian Arctic Shelf which could accelerate the rise of greenhouse gases at a rate above all of the Oceans combined!

Hmm... how many gas sources other than Algore’s mouth are also not being accounted for?

Unfortunate errors?! What pure, unadulterated bullsh!t. They cooked the books from the very beginning. Data that didn’t lead to their predetermined outcome was shredded. That’s not an unfortunate error. Lying SOBs.

due to unfortunate errors made by scientists

"Unfortunate errors"? They were cooking the data, lying about their so-called findings, ignoring any scientific standards whatever, and hiding the actual hard facts with "the dog ate my homework" excuse, all to support the BIG LIE of AGW. "Unfortunate errors," my a**. They cheated, manipulated, lied, and got caught. The public has no time for this cr*pola any more. Good luck on that PR campaign.

Manipulated data, lying, agenda driven falsehoods.

Very unfortunate for the watermelons indeed.

Funny how that word keeps popping up.

"due to unfortunate errors made by scientists"

If they are making errors we should just drop logic and trust them? It is not errors it is a way to control our lives.

B.S., nobody's glorifying the status quo. We need more domestic oil/gas drilling, not the same amount.

“Had it been promptly corrected and openly explained to the media, in full context with the underlying science, the story would have lasted days, not weeks.”

Translation: Had the individual who exposed the fraud perpetrated by the climate “scientists” been stupid enough to approach the main stream media with his evidence, he would have been fed in little pieces and fed to the sea gulls before any of this could be made public.
