WHY WAIT FOR NOVEMBER?Recall/Impeach the B*stards Now!
Vanity | 3/12/2010 | GVnana

Honestly, why should we be nice guys and give these crooks another six months on the public dime?

They're making our lives hell, and they're supposed to work for us!

I propose that, in addition to fielding new candidates for public office, we simultaneously petition for the removal of current officeholders... by whatever means apply in the respective states.

Good luck on that, Mr. Quixote.

Not that I don't agree with you, but it would literally take a military coup d'etat to get rid of these bastards now.

Sounds good to me, but does the US Constitution allow such a move?

I think not

Federal officials -- i.e. congressmen and senators -- cannot be recalled. The Constitution permits removal by death, resignation or expulsion via a vote of two-thirds of the House in which that person is a member.

An attempt to recall a senator in 1967 -- Frank Church of Idaho -- was shut down by a state judge.

However, there is a test case in New Jersey where the organizers of a recall petition for Sen. Menendez are asking a state court to permit them to gather petitions for such a purpose, so as to be able to adjudicate the possibility of a senator being recalled under a state constitution. This will take a bit to time to ripen into a definitive court case, so be patient.

The only way for the people to act is to vote. There is no recall procedure in the Constitution...................

yes I know a lot will say it is a useless effort- but I dont agree- lets do everything we can THINK OF!!!! before they enact this piece of crap

AND is there a method to ‘recall’ an office holder to his home office for a face-to-face meeting? maybe they cannot quite hear us from way over in Washington DC.

Considering the current coup d’etat we just had here with the Kenyan usurper-in-cheese.

It has been shown that recall is not an option for a federal office holder so that option won’t work. The other option is removal of a member by the House or Senate itself and that won’t work either. The other option is to convict the member of a crime which usually results in their removal by the respective house. The only other option for removing them from office before November is a crime in every state of the union and the District of Columbia as well.

Just keep raining flak down on them. Ostracize them. And hope for some effect by Nov. McCain taken down in AZ would be better than Brown in MA; McC’s opponent Haworth has a 95% rating as conservative and wants NO amnesty—will work to close the border.

Military coup d’etat sounds good to me. Got to know the guys at the Pentagon have had it cross their minds.

In principle, you likely find little disagreement on this board. Legally and logistically, this suggestion is a mess ... recall is unconstitutional, and impeachment/ removal requires us to meet legislative and legal threshholds that we simply cannot meet.

We are a nation of laws and participatory government. Your post fails to take into account that for the last two election cycles your countrymen have turned away from our side of the political debate. Our neighbors have decidedly put these people in power in both Houses and the Executive branch.

Recalls, impeachments and all the other possible forms or remedy (outdside of criminal arrest which would likely be thrown out for almost anything) all rely upon majority votes of representatives, Senators and voters and we don’t have them. Effort spent in such actions are not just wasted, they detract from the best approach.

It is best to work to unite, educate and energize voters — that is the method for replacing these people.

I envision campaigns conducted in their own backyards -- not the national level. Too diluted.

If we can't recall them, we can certainly call together a citizen commission and hold a "no confidence" vote. Kinda like the treatment Harry Reid is about to receive.

Cook their gooses now, not later.

In the meantime, we can fantacize about better future methods of disciplining wayward representatives.

I favor the explosive skull implant method, wherein the state legislatures control the detonators, and when 51% of them hit the recall button, the disobedient or misbehaving representative/senator gets a major headache covering several zipcodes.

“death, resignation or expulsion” — with resignation and expulsion ruled out, that leaves only death. Hmmmm.

Really? That’s distinctly un-American. I hope you’re just joking, because that’s a hideous thing for a true American to say. Actually, it’s a hideous thing for a true American to even joke about.
