Encouraged by state and national Republican Party leaders, Dan Senor, an author, private equity executive and Defense Department adviser in the last Bush administration, is seriously considering a political challenge against Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand, according to three people told of the discussions.
Mr. Senor, 38, who is married to the CNN anchorwoman Campbell Brown, is expected to decide in the next month whether to run. The discussions between Mr. Senor and the Republican leaders reflect their dissatisfaction with the existing field of Republican candidates in the state and their consensus that Ms. Gillibrand remains vulnerable to a challenger in the election this fall.
In recent weeks, as Democratic political prospects have soured, a number of big-name Republicans including Rudolph W. Giuliani, the former mayor and presidential candidate have urged Mr. Senor to consider running.
Rudy is very impressed with him and pleased that he is considering running, said Anthony V. Carbonetti, a senior adviser to Mr. Giuliani, who said the former mayor had lunch with Mr. Senor a few days ago.
Among others who have encouraged him are Senator John Cornyn of Texas, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee; Michael R. Long, the leader of the New York Conservative Party; and Edward F. Cox, the chairman of the states Republican Party, according to people with direct knowledge of the conversations
The Republican leaders, who cautioned that they were not backing any single candidate, have told Mr. Senor that his deep ties in the party, expertise on national security and background as a businessman would make him a formidable candidate. His New York roots do not hurt, either: he was born in Utica, which could appeal to upstate voters wary of his Manhattan address.
Mr. Senor declined to be interviewed for this article.
Ms. Gillibrand, who...

Son-in-law of Richard Nixon.
Ominous note. I presume this guy is another well connected RINO. But I'm just guessing.
He has a good descriptive page with articles cited at the Council on Foreign Relations.

Evidently he's a middle eastern expert. To his credit, he appears to be pro-Israel.
The truly sad thing is that Chucky Cheese will probably run unopposed because any smart pol will run against the far weaker Gillebrand. She's Chucky's recession-proof insurance policy.
I presume this guy is another well connected RINO.”
Alas, he might be, but any credible candidate is a good one in that state, since it will make the Democrats defend New York ... and we go about picking up Arkansas, Dakotas, Missouri, Nevada, etc.
Thanks for the link.
FReepmail me if you want on or off my New York ping list.
Thanks for the ping!
My main concern is getting solid Reagan-movement conservatives like Jim DeMint elected in states that should have them. Marco Rubio over Crist appears to be a good start. Start getting rid of Dem Senators in the Dakotas, the Rust Belt, and any state south of the Mason-Dixon line and we wont have to worry about potentially problematic senators like Mark Kirk and Scott Brown in the future when (hopefully) the GOP moves to eliminate the Department of Energy and Dept. of Education.
He’s 38, she’s 41. Just sayin’...
I’ve seen him many times on Fox News being interviewed about subjects of foreign policy and have always been really impressed by him. Very likable too. He’s just written a book about Israel that I thought I would like to read. He always seems highly knowledgable about whatever subject he’s on. I am shocked to learn he is married to Campbell Brown! Wow, didn’t know that.
NY GOP still cruising around for someone to run against G(J)illibrand. It seems like they basically have a personals ad out. “Desperately seeking self-financier”.
Is this Dan Senor more of a RINO? I guess he'd have to be to have any hope of actually getting elected in NY.
(All those tempted to repeat the lie that Lazio loses elections please be prepared to give your facts. We all know he lost to the celebrity Arkanthug ten years ago.)
Maybe she's a closet Conservative at CNN.
No more RINOS.
That's not good. I smell a rat.
Yes, it does seem like the NY GOP took out a personal ad seeking a Senate candidate, but Senor seems like the most promising of the potential or declared candidates (with the notable exception of Pataki, who still won’t decide either way). Senor also appears to be more conservative than your average NY Republican (although, admittedly, we don’t know much about his views on social issues).
We also should not pretend that the fact that he’s Jewish won’t help him get votes in NYC and it’s suburbs, or that being married to a prominent TV news personality won’t give him a degree of protection from attacks by the MSM.
I would suggest that before Senor jumps in he consult with Pataki to find out what Pataki intends to do.
