Utah has become the third state to adopt a law exempting guns and ammunition made, sold and used in the state from massive federal regulations under the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and supporters say about 30 more states have some sort of plan for their own exemptions in the works.
Officials in Utah say they expect a lawsuit over their direct challenge to Washington if the federal government succeeds in its current case against Montana's law.
Gary Marbut of the Montana Shooting Sports Association, who has spearheaded the Montana law, now describes himself as a sort of "godfather" to the national campaign. He confirmed Montana, Tennessee and Utah have enacted such laws.
"Wyoming and South Dakota, they have passed legislation and it's on their governors' desks," he said. "We learned today Oklahoma's House has passed a plan over to the Senate. Idaho's House has just passed it along. Alaska's has passed the House and is in the Senate Judiciary committee," he said.
The move is about far more than just the regulation of handguns and shotguns, he said.

That’s a lot of blue.
darn- my state is still red on that map.
GO STATES GO !!!
who in Texas makes a good M2 like
machine gun?

it's not my map, but I think it just seems better to have the "Red" states as red, and the "Blue" states as blue. (excuse the ugly colorize job, it's late and I'm tired)
thanks for article & map. Nice to see NH be a beacon in the liberal NE. Surprised about Iowa (paging Iowa Granny !)
I will not be satisfied until there is a crew-served weapon sitting on my front lawn.
Will be truly interesting to see what the first few show downs look like. Will the state/local police go along to get along or will they run the ATF off? Will they simply turn their heads and let the locals handle the situation? One things for sure the real ‘grit’ of these laws will be played out in the field and it not going to be pretty in most cases. I say that b/c the ATF has this nasty habit of using a heavy fist as their first move.
They sent the US Marshals to do their "first attempt" dirty work at Ruby Ridge and the Marshals screwed it up royally, too. I'd like to see the ATF try their crappola in Maricopa County where that awesome sheriff Joe something or other is always gettin' re-elected.
The real clincher was when they went before Congress and whined about being out gunned. What a load of losers. In reality they viewed the raid on the Branch Dividians as a PR op. They call themselves professionals but their actions that day (and for the entire event) was amateurish at best and criminal at worst.
