A Navy captain turned the Pacific into the world's strangest drag strip -- ordering two warships to stage a bizarre race that one sailor said nearly ended in tragedy, a high-ranking military official told The Post yesterday.

"Multiple witnesses interviewed by the [inspector general] and the commanding officers of both ships all stated that the ships were racing," said Pacific Fleet spokesman Cmdr. Jeff Davis.

Fly in a circle and have the fuel vapor touch? Pull a McCain and land somewhere other than a runway with no gas? Forget to lower the landing gear and wipe out all the antennas? Fly into the Superstition Mt with the dome light on while reading a map? Land 200 yards from the end of the runway off base? Or just dump the excess fuel on the base commanders house?

Anyone want to guess her sexual preferences?

Should we try guessing the Captain's sex first?

Given the charges she was convicted of S&M seems like a safe bet.

Close enough.

The Captain came under discussion in an earlier thread.

Seems she was relieved of her command for being a two-hundred proof, double-dip Bitch on Wheels.

Little discussion of drag-racing on the high seas, although that would have just tilted the balance further towards removal.

......two-hundred proof, double-dip Bitch on Wheels.

I've never heard that phrase before, but will write it down for future use ;^)

Yeah, she sounds like she has some serious self-control issues. Hard to believe she was put into a command position.

Typical... The McCain veered to the left, got in the way, and almost caused a disaster.

(to the tune of Hot Rod Lincoln)

Well me and my buddy, ol’ Swabby Joe,
took off in a can from ol’ Sassbo.
The chow was poor ‘n’ the fuel was low,
but the doggone can could really go.

Along about in the middle of the night,
we were steamin’ along like a tin can might,
when a cruiser behind us blinked her lights,
blew her whistle and pulled to the right.

Well we had twin screws on our old can,
which makes you think that we’re in a jam,
but f’you swabs who don’t get this kinda jive,
we had six boilers with overdrive.

Now we’re tin can men, and we likely knew,
that we’d race all night, ‘less somethin blew.
The stern was down from the turn of the screws,
as on through the waves we flew and flew.

Our exec was pale, he said he was sick,
but us tin can men knew he was just a hick.
Why should we worry, what the heck,
that cruiser ‘n’ us were still neck-and-neck.

Yes on through the ocean we did glide,
a’flyin’ low with the throttle wide.
Our skipper screamed and the crew they cried,
but the doggone cruiser was still right beside.

Well we looked over the fantail, where sumpin’ was a comin’
we thought it was a jet by the way it was a hummin’.
It was a’comin’ along at a terrible pace,
and we knew right then was the end of this race.

As it steamed passed us we looked the other way,
and the cruiser’s crew, they had nothin’ to say.
For there goin’ by was a reserve JG,
pushin’ a hopped-up LST

When you try to show how ballsy you are...but you lack the required testicles...you often go overboard in showing the men how big your set is.

The capt. was canned for being a Queeg, not racing.

Normal for military vessels to have a little races in the open oceans. The sailors get a kick from it.

Yeah, I notice the rail of the lead ship is jammed with spectators, doesn't look like they were "terrified".

Back in the day, it was always, “Physicly Arousing” to see the Spruance Class’s at Full Military! They shot a rooster tail damn near as long as the ship!!

I am opposed to women commanding ships and make no apologies for it.

And you base this on what experience?

My wife said that her behavior isn’t atypical of the SWO’s she’s had to deal with over the last 22 years. We guessed that there was another shoe or two to drop.

How fast could she go? (Flank speed)

I was on the Kennedy back in the mid-70's when we did a post-overhaul high speed run. We hit 35.5 knots, but that was light - no airwing or anything like that. Fully loaded the Enterprise is probably a little slower.

In the early 90’s I was on the Vinson. Above the wheelmans station over the window there were the propeller turn indicators. Let’s just say I was impressed with the top end of the scale. I asked the Master Chief that was my excort how fast she could go. He looked out the window with that Chief stare and said “That is so classified we had to outrun all the ships that escorted us to keep it secret.” Typical Chief humor.

How about the fact that in ALL of history...women have only recently been given command of a ship?

So...I guess the experience it is based on is called...history. Or, all of time if you prefer. I know, I know, you’ve seen every Xena episode. But we’re dealing in reality here.

I think his Chief needs to take him into a storage room and talk to him about this.
