NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- If you knew coworkers, former bosses or exes who cheated on their taxes, would you turn them in? The Internal Revenue Service can make it worth your while.
As tax season nears, we all want to get as much money back from the IRS as possible. And while taking advantage of this year's new tax breaks will put some extra money in your pocket, snitching on a tax cheat could make you rich.
In a recent poll from the IRS Oversight Board, 13% of those surveyed think cheating is acceptable, up from 9% in 2008. As the recession puts the squeeze on household finances, the lure of fudging on a tax return is even greater.

can I rat on rangle?
Then I point out Rangel and Geithner...how much money are they going to pay me for pointing out these tax cheats?
Holder and Geithner! OK, how much do I win?
what about turbo timmy....
Crud - I wuz going to call DIBS on Cheat’n Charlie....
Timmy G anyone?
This seems an awful lot like the old soviet program of ratting out neighbors who spoke out against the system. I guess marxists are marxists everywhere.
I wouldn’t tell jack crap about anyone or anything......no, not even the time of day.
When they clean up their own house (Tiny Timmy Turbo, Rangle, etc.etc.) I might reconsider. Otherwise, if you can beat em out of a dime, more power to ya.
I have a few folks I do not care for.
Can I turn them in as tax cheats and watch as the IRS thugs come and give them a beat downs?
Ala Ruby Ridge?
I can’t stand narcs.
“So far, the new incentives have been effective. The IRS has received tips from about 476 informants identifying 1,246 taxpayers in fiscal year 2008, the first full year the program was implemented.”
This does not sound like very much when you also see that 13% of the population now think that evading taxes is ok. Moreover, the fact that this number has gone up from 9% (about a 40% increase) seems like the more interesting fact. The rate of evasion could exceed the enforcement efforts as a wave of civil disobedience is triggered by tax increases.
One thing about commies, they don’t have any new tricks in their bags. Just slightly new labels for the same old tricks.
Like Winston said...”Do it to Julia!”
who is saddened at the thought that someone might report him.
“...received tips from about 476 informants identifying 1,246 taxpayers in fiscal year 2008...”
...alomst three perps per rat.
Block Captains are making a comeback.
If I was a pathetic worm like Tommy Daschle I’d be saddened that I’m Tommy Daschle.
Unless it’s a clear and present danger to me and mine, I know nothing and see nothing.
I’d love to turn in Rangle, Dasshole, and TurboTaxTimmy.
Makes me wish I knew some tax cheats - but I dont know any democrats.
