A fresh start is a fine idea. (1) It would fully restore filibuster capability, and (2) it took 14 months to get to this point ... by the time they get back here, we’ll be running the show.

Well, help me out.
Why is this McCain calls for a fresh start for health care
equal to this (SNATCHING DEFEAT FROM THE JAWS OF VICTORY)
Given what the Republican leadership has been saying (the same thing)?

“He argues polls suggest Americans want....”
Since when did McCain give a flip about what the American people want?? EVERY poll says no to amnesty, to reduce legal immigration, but he couldn’t care less.

I’d be worried about it if I thought it actually would be something the Dems would agree to. As it is it is a great
political stalling position....

"This bill was written by Democrats for Democrats and then they tried and I understand power."This sentence is simply nonsensical.

I agree with those who reject the conclusion of “SNATCHING DEFEAT FROM THE JAWS OF VICTORY”.
Tossing the current bills and starting over is a massive loss for the Democrats. They burned a lot of political capital and goodwill trying to force this abomination through — having to start over from square 1 might as well be tantamount to them quitting altogether.
The Republicans, McCain included, are quite smart and correct in saying that the as-is legislation has to be scrapped and that there is real reform (as opposed to government take-over) that can be enacted in a bipartisan fashion. They get to take the high road while Obama, Pelosi, and Reid continue to pay heavy costs for forcing through a bill against the wishes of their members and the general public.
I’m no McCain fan, but let’s not tee off on the guy when he’s right.
