George W. Bush vindicated.

Hmmm, didn’t hear a lot about this. I thought the Patriot Act was the worst thing ever to have been pushed on Americans by Bush-Cheney. Hmmm, amazing how times have changed. This time, the MSM doesn’t give it much coverage.

I'm not as comfortable with the Patriot Act in the hands of this President.

It's like giving a pistol to an arrogant, petulant 6 year old who's pissed as hell about being sent to his room.

That’s the problem I had with it all along. I was fine with it in Bush’s hands, but I feared the next guy. Now, I don’t think they’ll ever give it up no matter who’s in charge. We could go 20 years without even a peep out of a terrorist and they’d still be renewing this.

Since then, I’ve come to the position that I am against ALL expansion of federal power, no matter who is in charge. The government is the most fickle of bed partners. It can change radically on a dime and giving something like that more power is a fool’s errand.

I am in financial services.
The Patriot Act is a pain, but it often gets blamed for things it doesn’t deserve.

Yes, it is amazing how W. pretty much wrote the foreign policy for this President, as far as Patriot Act and a few other things are concerned.

(Not so much with North Korea, Iran, etc.)

“George W. Bush vindicated.”

Ah, but he’s not the President now.

Always assume every law will be used against you by your worst enemy. The Patriot Act is used against more people than just Islamic terrorists.

Ya, I heard ZERO about this Patriot Act renewal. And Obama will sign it? Yep, I thought that the Patriot Act was like something out of Nazi Germany.

Dems have majorities in Senate and House and have usurped the WH. They now have Homeland Security Responsibility. With that comes consequences if something they did with Patriot Act results in a terrorist attack on US soil.

They were able to sneak this in under cover of Onada’s health care fiasco yesterday. I’ll be very interested if it is reported in my local paper or the Gov’t-controlled Media.

I suspect the rank and file dem voter will never know it. On the other hand, it answers the argument these same people have against the Patriot Act. Their guys voted to keep it just the way it is so what could possibly be wrong with it?

The vindication of George W. Bush.

With regard to national security, reality often kicks liberals in the ass ... more troops to Afghanistan, extending Iraq timetables, renewal of the Patriot Act. Haha.

How do ya like them apples, Code Pink?

Yeah for real, Harry Reid said back in 2005 that he killed the Patriot Act!

"They were able to sneak this in under cover of Onada’s health care fiasco yesterday."

Was this the un-named "very important vote" yesterday that caused a temporary break in the "Transparency Show" so that members of the House could go and do dirt for?

I’m sure they’ll love it when the government uses the Patriot Act against conservatives.

That’s pretty much the same thing that Code Pink said about Bush/Cheney having the authority. Paranoia abounds.

If the government needed the authority granted by the Patriot Act to track terrorists under the Bush Administration, they need it under the Obama Administration.

I didn’t support the Patriot Act when it was enacted, and I don’t like it now.

“That’s pretty much the same thing that Code Pink said about Bush/Cheney having the authority. Paranoia abounds.”

Expansion in power is always a dangerous thing. You can shove your “paranoia” line.

“If the government needed the authority granted by the Patriot Act to track terrorists under the Bush Administration, they need it under the Obama Administration.”

What on earth makes you think they’ll just -or even at all - use this against Islamic terrorists? The law doesn’t limit itself to “Islamic terrorists”.

“Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master. Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.” - George Washington

I guess he was just paranoid too. We should all trust the government. They are here to help us, right?

Excellent news. Extend the Patriot Act for far more than 1 year though; make it 10 years. Thank God for such a wise move and to those that voted in favor of it.

Protecting this country from foreign and domestic threats is among the mandated responsibilities of government. I will not chastize them for doing the job we Constitutionally mandated that they do.

If they overstep or twist the law to political ends, they’ll hear from me. Until then — I supported the bill under the Bush Administration, and I support it now.
