California Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) chairman Ryan Sorba generated a media controversy when he was shown at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) denouncing the organizers for inviting a homosexual Republican group, GOProud, into the event as an official sponsor. In "controversial" remarks, Sorba said homosexuality was unnatural and that he welcomed more debate and discussion about the subject from his political adversaries.
But what many people don't realize is that Sorba's "outburst" was provoked by a speaker who preceded him, Alexander McCobin of Students For Liberty (SFL). McCobin went out of his way to use valuable time from the podium to thank the American Conservative Union, the main CPAC organizer, for making the controversial decision to approve GOProud's participation.
David Keene, a lobbyist, is the chairman of the ACU and personally approved GOProud's involvement in CPAC.
Sorba told AIM, "I think CPAC went overboard this year. I don't think he [Keene] should be sitting at the top of CPAC." He noted that CPAC over the last several years has also allowed groups such as the ACLU to have exhibits at the event.
"What's next?," Sorba asked. "Are they going to have Republicans for Obamacare? Republicans for free abortions?"

"Are you gay? Are you Christian?" These are not questions that should qualify you as conservative. There are varying shades of gray, but we all want this country returned to the form of governance required by the written documents of our founding.
I understand how difficult it is have someone criticize our behavior. Because we have free will, man has a great ability to justify our behavior.
For most of my life, I justified to myself my adultery and my cheating others. Luckily, the “Hound of Heaven” kept on chasing me, and I came to realize that these things hurt me, hurt others, and hurt God. We are never set in our ways.
I don’t know about other religions, but I was raised a Buddhist.
Buddhism condemns homosexuality. It is a violation of Eightfold Path because homosexuality is illicit sensual pleasure. Homosexuals will be punished in Hell until their karma is resolved.
I can not change your cousin or anyone else. Conversion of the heart can only by the grace of God. As a Christian, all I can do is try to live a good life, tell people the truth and pray.
So, I will pray for you and your cousin and I hope you will pray for me.
Many so called conservatives, would embrace any big government solution that works against people who are Homosexual.
This is the real problem.
I have had no “wrong” done in my life loony bird. Why must someone have something wrong with them to disagree with you? Are you Caligula? You can elevate your vocabulary all you want to, but you are still an idiot. Just because someone does not agree with you, does not mean that they are damaged, hateful, or a bad Christian. Homosexuality is wrong and it destroys societies. So is murder, and a lot of murders have people that love them, but it does not make their behavior correct or right. Your cousin is sick and you ought to help him, not coddle him and try to make his illness mainstream so he can feel better about himself.
The problem is not the gay people in everyday life. My boss is gay, although a liberal, but I didn’t know it for four months after I was hired. I didn’t ask and he doesn’t talk about his personal life. However the Gay “leadership” in this country don’t seem to be able to talk about anything else. One reason is their own self loathing and feelings of inadequacy. They bring this on themselves, largely by attacking Christians whenever possible. I have no sympathy for them at all.
Wow. Let me ask that you put aside your insults. They debase your arguments.
I also ask that you go back through the thread and read that I’m not espousing homosexuality. I am not “for” homosexuality. I have a member of my family who is a homosexual. I don’t promote his lifestyle. I’ve spoken to him at length about it, I’ve explained to him the health implications and the spiritual problems he’s inviting.
I cannot change his mind, sir. I’m not coddling him, he’s my cousin. If he was a friend, I would likely keep my time with him to a minimum, but this is my family. I see him all the time during the year. We talk about secular things like politics and sports. He’s every bit a human being as you or me.
I’m simply concerned that you’ve taken to insults instead of trying to have a civilized conversation. I’ve done nothing to you; I don’t know who you are; I have nothing against you as a person. You have a problem with me simply because I have a cousin who is gay?
And I’m the loony bird?
Me neither! The thought of their sexual proclivities makes me physically ill. I will not, however, debase them in the public arena simply for being gay. If the start spouting their agenda in the public arena, I will fight them with all of my might. I have no patience and absolutely no tolerance for the immorality they preach.
Well said. And it’s a damn shame it even needed be said at all...
“He was truly a man of historical religion, and he explained that the Orthodox and Coptic Christians pre-dated the Roman Catholics by at least 500 years.”
Huh? I thought the Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Catholics all recognize each other as starting at the same time, which is the begining of the Church, despite each believing the others have sad flaws that divide.

Don’t know, Ransomed. I’ve studied religious history, but I cannot accurately speak to your question.
Well, to my understanding, the different Apostolic Churches all agree that they are apostolic.

Right, but I don’t know what churches formed when. It’s sort of like my alma mater, Florida State University. When I was there, there was this stupid argument about when the university was founded, and it was brought up because our cross-state rivals, UF, wanted to be “founded” earlier.
So the board of regents and the president decided to say that FSU was “founded” in 1852, when the slab was poured for the first building, vs. 1857, when the first classes started.
It’s all a matter of dates, really. What matters to me is that what I practice is as close to what was originally preached and taught by Christ and the Apostles.
I’ll have a chat with my pastor about this on Saturday.
That’s the problem. I have friends who are gay and conservative, but are not in everyone’s face or forcing their way into the schools, etc.
The problem is GOProud is an identity group pushing the radical gay agenda.
I have to admit, I’m not privy to the homosexual groups in the GOP. The only homosexual activist group I’ve heard of is the “Pink Pistols,” and I’ve actually shot with a lot of them. They’re a lot of fun.
As far as the groups in the conservative party structure, I agree that being “out” and calling attention to it is to push the homosexual agenda. I’m not espousing that at all. If a homosexual wants to be involved in conservative politics, I’m fine with that as long as they don’t push any of their homosexual agenda on me or others in the room.
I’m pretty sure The Catholics, the Orthodox and the Oriental Orthodox were all founded at Pentecost, because they were all the same thing at that time. Then they started to have disagreements, starting with the Oriental Orthodox. Then 1000 years or so after pentecost the Orthodox and Catholics had a schism. But they never started new Churches because there is only on one Church, and they all recognize that they belong to it.

The Gay Infiltration of the RINO Movement/Fixed.
Gay and conservative are mutually exclusive things. In fact, conservatives are way, way behind in terms of cultivating a conservative voice in the gay movement to balance the grip the gay left has on the debate.
I’m in the ELCA, and am adamantly opposed to the vote they took to essentially rip Matthew 19: 4-5 out of the Bible recently.
That, however, doesn’t mean that I don’t believe that gay people are outside of God’s salvation, and I don’t believe that there is no place for gay people in the ELCA, or any other church.
Fact is we don’t know enough about what causes homosexuality, or pedophilia, necrophilia, or any other psycho-sexual syndromes. Like AGW, the entire scientific question is basically off-limits to actual scientists, since the APA reclassified homosexuality from a disease to something just this side of ‘normative’.
I think we ought to have telethons to battle such diseases, and I think there should be real money behind it. There’s certainly been enough death and psychological/emotional damage done by them.
I know for a fact that there are many gay people that think ‘the movement’ is going to do the opposite of what it thinks it is trying to achieve.
I have a lifelong friend that’s been dealing with being gay since he was basically 12. Not a good life, overall. Rockribbed conservative, and has actually chaired campaigs for major state and federal candidates. Still in the closet, very active, very centered conservative.
I believe we’re on the same page with this issue. Tammy Bruce was the headliner at one of our Tea Parties in Tucson, and she was enthusiastically received because of her message, which had nothing to do with her orientation.
Matt 7:1 is only part of the picture. Matt 7:2-5 discusses "when you judge".
There are dozens of other Scriptural statements regarding this business of judging. In the end they add up to a requirement for Christians to judge ~ with a focus on the behavior, not the person.
I presume that's not a surprise to you.
I fully support gay conservatives and welcome them with tolerance and understanding.
For those who don’t, this is no time to fight this battle. It is time to unite with all those who are willing to fight the Marxist agenda. If we lose that war, we will have no power, no protection of our private property, no civil rights, and we will have fisting taught in the public schools.
Once the Marxists are out of power and the country has been set back on course in terms of restoring limited government and Constitutional protections, we can resume our normally scheduled social battles.
