Toledo police Sunday identified the victim of Saturday night's fatal shooting on Galena Street in North Toledo as Christopher Childress, 21, of North Toledo.
Sgt. William Wauford said Mr. Childress was shot once in the chest when he was confronted by the homeowner, whom police declined to immediately identify over "concerns about his safety."

That’s OK. Though I do have to say that “two deceased home invaders” would have really made my day!
The way the story is worded makes it sound like he was carrying the gun when he came home to find his home being burglarized.
Nothing wrong with that....
VICTIM? Not hardly!
I read it twice and I still don’t see where the author expressed any sympathy (or any other emotion) for the deceased. As stories go, this is one is bias free.
‘victim’
‘Mr. Childress’
‘victim’
‘victim’
‘victim’
‘Mr. Childress’
Aw’...hell no....
Not at all. The other poster wanted to know why they made it sound as if he needed a permit to have a gun in his home. I was explaining why I thought they mentioned it.
Not familiar with the TB.....
They sound like they are well left of the Star Tribune....
They called the perp a victim. Let that sink in for a moment.
More information, rather peculiar. Drugs involved?

New details are emerging about the man police say shot and killed an intruder in his North Toledo home Saturday night.
Chris Childress, 21, was fatally shot after breaking into the home of Sedric Joplin at 811 Galena St. around 8:00 p.m. Saturday. Police say when they arrived on scene they found Childress laying unresponsive in the street at the corner of Michigan and Galena. They say he and at least one other suspect broke into Joplin’s home through an unlocked side window.
A neighbor told police he was looking down from his balcony at the home in question when he heard gun shots and saw a suspect, Michael Lee Brown, Jr., jump out of the window and flee the scene along with at least one other suspect. Minutes later, Childress was found by police. He was later pronounced dead at Mercy St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
Brown was located and taken to an area hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
Joplin’s neighbors tell NBC24 that the man who allegedly shot his intruders is a correctional officer at a nearby prison facility. They also say that Joplin, 40, has been known to have a marijuana-cultivation operation inside his home.
Police were at the home through the weekend, where neighbors say they observed DEA investigators removing bags of evidence from the home.
Yup! Nothing like a double tap.
That’s odd. I’d think that announcing that someone who lives at 811 Galena St. is willing to blow away someone caught in his house would be enough to guarantee his safety.
“Joplin, 40, has been known to have a marijuana-cultivation operation inside his home”
Colorado legalized marijuana clinics. Many of them got robbed as they were in private homes.
Ads like this abound:
“Get your medical marijuana card. $90 with medical history. $125 without”
From the article -
Police said the victim lived in the area where the shooting occurred but they did not release his address.
But the journalist had no problem releasing the shooter's address.
Earlier yesterday, friends and family members of the shooting victim placed candles and left written messages on a poster where he fell.
Gee, the guy was just a lovable rogue! He's not a criminal, he's a victim!
I gotta ask myself, is the "journalist" biased? Who should I believe, jra or my own two lying eyes?
I consider coming home to a supposedly-empty house to be an extremely vulnerable time. I am giving potential intruders a few minutes warning of my approach -- enough time to prepare, conceal themselves and lay a trap.
A couple of dogs and a handgun are your best friends.
Thats odd. Id think that announcing that someone who lives at 811 Galena St. is willing to blow away someone caught in his house would be enough to guarantee his safety.
Not if he has 15 bro’s willing to avenge him...all at once.
Victims are dead... criminal or not.
Don’t waste your soapbox on terminology. It’s foolish.
This is the problem with people nowadays...one word choice by a flunkie writer gets people all lathered up.
Speaking of using the word ‘victim’, you guys are acting like *you’re* victims from having read a word that offended your sensibilities.
The writer called him a shooting victim, which is accurate.
Bottom line is that the perp got capped. What he’s called in a newspaper article won’t change that.
Grow a sack and find something worthwhile to get riled up about.
You've had four days to craft your witty reply. This is the best you can come up with?
How pathetically disappointing.
