Obama Unveils Revised $1 Trillion Health Plan [Tea-Party March on DC?]

Obama Unveils Revised $1 Trillion Health Plan No public option in proposal to cover 31 million uninsured, limit rate hikes

WASHINGTON - Making a last-ditch effort to save his health care overhaul, President Barack Obama on Monday put forward a nearly $1 trillion, 10-year compromise that would allow the government to deny or roll back egregious insurance premium increases that infuriate consumers.

The White House immediately demanded an up-or-down vote in Congress on the plan, or something close to it. But it's highly uncertain that such sweeping legislation can pass. Republicans are virtually unanimous in opposing it, and some Democrats who previously supported a health care remake are having second thoughts in an election year. After a year in pursuit, Obama may have to settle for a modest fallback version of what once was his top domestic priority.

Release of the plan on the White House Web site comes just four days before Obama's one-of-a-kind, televised health care summit with Democrats and Republicans. The White House said the plan would provide coverage to more than 31 million Americans now uninsured without adding to the federal deficit. On Capitol Hill, Democrats cautiously welcomed the proposal, while Republicans gave a thumbs down.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said in a statement she looks forward to reviewing the plan and discussing it at the summit. "We must pass comprehensive, affordable health insurance reform, and I am hopeful that Thursday's meeting will help us achieve this goal," she said, reaffirming her commitment.

House Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio dismissed the proposal, saying, "the president has crippled the credibility of this week's summit by proposing the same massive government takeover of health care based on a partisan bill the American people have already rejected."

I don’t think there is any question there needs to be a massive march on Washington. I have been talking about this to other people for some time now. We are running out of time. Let’s Roll!

Arrogant putz thinks all he has to do is say take it or leave it and everyone will jump at his command.

I say leave it. Certainly we need some sort of health care bill, but pray tell me how he can roll back an insurance companes prices.

He now owns General Motors, is he rolling back car prices? rolling back Union demands?

Nothing Obama is writing changes the text of the legislation currently on the table. Any changes must be by amendment only, and voted on by legislators.

There is nothing to actually reform 2200 pages of tyranny.
The ProgRats will lie, knowing they have so many unconstitutional provisions embedded in the health control bill.
IF ANY CHANGES ARE NOT IN WRITING IN THE ACTUAL LEGISLATION, NOTHING IS GOING TO BE CHANGED.
KEEP UP THE PRESSURE ON THE NO VOTES.

Certainly we need some sort of health care bill...

WHY! I keep hearing and reading this but don't believe it. Government sticking it's nose in is where the problem originates. It's the government that forbids insurance companies from working across state lines preventing competition. It is government rules that prevent tort reform. It's government that insists on cradle to grave entitlements. Get government out of the way.

We (or at least I) don't want a Republican alternative to Obamacare. I want government to get its nose out of the peoples business.

I agree with you heartily, but as long as we have people showing up at Emergency rooms with no insurance and sometimes no green card looking for a freebie , our costs are going to skyrocket.

The easiest way for us to lower health care costs is to send 20 to 30 million people back to their home country.

Did Gibbs say that this is the base to work from, it can be added to? I only heard the newscaster re-state what he said. It sounds like Obama will not compromise on this bill but will consider ADDING some Republican provisions.

“...that would allow the government to deny or roll back egregious insurance premium increases that infuriate consumers.”

Oh, you mean like the increases caused by the Washington State Legislature in the early 90s due to their idiotic “mandates”? The one that chased 14 insurance companies out of our state followed by an increase in premium costs by 40%?
