Saturday Night Beck (Bennett's Beefs with Beck's Bloviations)
National Review Online ^ | Sunday, February 21, 2010 | Bill Bennett

To say the GOP and the Democrats are no different, to say the GOP needs to hit a recovery-program-type bottom and hang its head in remorse, is to delay our own country’s recovery from the problems the Democratic left is inflicting. The stakes are too important to go through that kind of exercise, which will ultimately go nowhere anyway — because it’s already happened.

The first task of a serious political analyst is to see things as they are. There is a difference between morning and night. There is a difference between drunk and sober. And there is a difference between the Republican and Democratic parties. To ignore these differences, or propagate the myth that they don’t exist, is not only discouraging, it is dangerous.

The reason Republicans lost power was they went Democrat-lite and why would they get elected doing that when people could just put a real Demcorat in.

---

Hear hear. The Republicans have ALWAYS lost when they behaved like Democrats. Stop it already. If they stuck with conservatism, they would win every time. I believe that with every fiber in my body. It takes guts, integrity, grace, common sense, and stubbornness, but it's what we need.

Go ahead. Support the third party candidate. I’m sure we’ll have a third party that will garner more votes than the Republicans and Democrats combined in just a couple of months. Now that is laughable!
Soros will just laugh his ass off when we get Democrats forever. It will be a lot cheaper for Soros. More time for him to short the dollar!
My recommendation: make the Republicans toe the conservative line. Do you agree? Or are Republicans and Democrats just the same?

Oh I agree. I’m not supporting a third party. But you certainly sound more like one of the conspiracy kooks they attract than Beck does.

ohio,

Thanks for the history lesson.

The GOP had a Senate majority in 2005.

Not one GOP Senator had even suggested he would vote against Miers before she withdrew.

To congratulate George Bush for nominating Samuel Alito is like congratulating George Bush for withdrawing his Immigration Amnesty just a few months later.

Conservatives were Bush’s political base.

We went apoplectic on both those issues, and Bush angrily backed down on both issues.

By 2006, Bush didn’t care what his base thought.

The result - Obama and huge Demo majorities.

You're welcome for the history lesson.

Yours is a bit warped and egotistical, so I'm glad I could help you out.

Bush nominated Alito. You can say whatever you want, but zeestephen wasn't in the White House standing by Sam Alito.

George W. Bush was. HE gets the credit.

So why attack Beck?

You are attacking the messenger, not the message. Is his message wrong? This is what the Democrats do, and frankly I would expect a LOT more than that from a fellow FReeper.

What is the message? Is the message wrong? Are the facts that Beck has presented true, or are they false? Beck has brought a LOT to the forefront, stuff that BOTH parties have known, but have either chosen to hide, or ignore.

But, if you get a tingle up your leg by attacking Beck; it’s a free country (for the moment). Carry on ... I chose to listen to the message, verify the sources and listen to the person who unearthed what BOTH parties wanted hidden.

I do hear Singapore is gorgeous in the Spring, though.

Now THAT would be informative, wouldn't it?

But it wouldn't further that "they're both the same" propaganda he's pushing, now would it?

ohio,

While you're handing out merit badges don't forget to credit Bush for:

(1) Nominating a center-left mediocrity before he nominated Alito.
(2) Trying to give blanket amnesty to 15 million illegal aliens who would immediately vote 75%-25% against the GOP.
(3) Bailing out the United Auto Workers who vote 75%-25% against the GOP and will spend millions of bailout dollars to defeat GOP candidates in 2010.
(4) Signing McCain-Feingold.
(5) Publicly supporting and signing legislation that removed down payment and income restrictions on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgages, which directly led to the greatest housing bubble, and greatest housing collapse, in American history.
(6) No Child Left Behind, which pointlessly expanded federal involvement in local school decisions.
(7) A $100 billion unfunded Medicare prescription drug bill.
(8) Refusing to challenge racial quota policies at the University of Michigan.
(9) Expanding federal spending at the fastest rate in 60 years.

The good news:

Like his father, George Bush was a hawk on military and foreign policy.

The bad news:

Like his father, George Bush was a big government, big spending, Rockefeller Republican.

The Bush's have been a political catastrophe for Conservatives.

Whether I accept your list or not, Bush still gets credit for both Roberts and Alito, and he was the strongest pro-life President we ever had, as well as the most consistent tax cutter, and one of the strongest on national defense.

And every one of those things was good for conservatism. In fact, Roberts and Alito may well be the thread preserving this nation from Obama right now.

Credit where it's due, zee. Credit where it's due.

(btw, President Bush has actually received awards (merit badges, if you will) for his stellar conservative federal judges and his strong pro-life stance. Hope you realize that).

Beck understands the diagnosis but not the treatment. I actually agree with most of what Beck is saying. I find much of his program to be informative and provocative. But he needs to stick with the history lessons. It does seem rather curious that although Beck is a talented guy, he is the only one of his kind that fails to see any substantial difference between the Dims and Republicans. This glaring failure to comprehend this obvious fact is reducing his credibility. Strategy is not his forte and this is exactly where he can be counterproductive to the conservative movement.
The Republicans are sick, heal them. The Democrats are just another incarnation in the long line of tyrants. Like the zombies or the living dead, they must constantly be destroyed with every generation.
Let Beck conduct the examination. but do not give him the scalpel. That calls for steadier and more experienced hands.

Beck understands the diagnosis but not the treatment.

Partial agreement here.

It does seem rather curious that although Beck is a talented guy, he is the only one of his kind that fails to see any substantial difference between the Dims and Republicans.

When you consider that when Beck exposed self-confessed Marxists and Communists among Obama's senior staff, one should not have had to imagine that the Republicans would have been outraged. I heard crickets, I heard cowering and boot-licking among the Republicans. The sad, sick fact of the matter is that the Republicans are cowards, without a single spine among them.

They, as a whole, are boot-lickers - appologizing for not 'reaching out' to the Democrats either fast enough, nor hard enough. They are collectively nothing more than a fellating group of sissies, whom eagerly line up to give the Democrats whatever they want, whenever they want, and however they want.

So, when you have one group actively trying to destroy the country, and the Republicans making no attempts to call attention to what is going on - what is the difference between the two? Seriously, what is the difference?

Let's look at Illegal Immigration, this is pretty much a binary choice. You are either for it, or against it. The polls show that an overwhelming majority of Americans want the borders sealed. We are at war, we have parsites committing crimes, stealing, killing and taking jobs. Where were the Repubicans when they had the chance to seal the border? They were servicing the Democrats.

How about Healtcare? Why, the public says "Hell no" and the Republicans spit the Democrat's out of their mouth just long enough to say "Why, we have a plan of our own" - when a vast majority of the population simply wants to be left alone. What is the difference between the parties, except lip-service and moving speeches?

Ann Coutier had it dead-on when she said that the ONLY reason we cannot buy Health Insurance across state lines is because Congress got involved. My life insurance, home insurance, and car insurance all follow me across the states in which I have lived. The only insurance I cannot buy in Utah, are the policies I had in Texas. Why? Whom does this benefit? How many Republicans voted for this, because a Lobbyist took him on a nice vacation? Where was the Conservative outrage that challenged this law? You can't talk with your mouth full.

I challenge you to name ONE, just ONE case where the Republicans have stood up as one and said "You shall go no further". Chances are, you can't. War on Terrorism? Nope. Gays in the Military? Nope? Flag burning? Nope. Tax reduction? Nope. Gov't expansion? Nope. Decreased taxes? Nope. Elimination in fraud on how our tax dollars are embezzeled? Nope. Rooting out corruption in Congress? Nope.

Where do Republicans differ in action, not in rhetoric? They say one thing when they run for election; but perform the exact opposite when finally elected. Wanna example? Watch what happens when the Dems try to push Healthcare through again.

The job of the conservative base and the Tea Party movement IS to keep the Republicans faithful to conservative principles. Many leading conservatives (going back to the years before Beck) have railed against Bush spending and McCain amnesty. I already know that you are fully aware of this point.

I hope you will join me in opposing the Dims by the most effective means possible. Calling and lobbying your Republican Reps and Senators to stand for conservative principles. Right now the Republicans sorely need some backbone to oppose this new rendition of 0bamacare. I have just called my district Rep. I have told them about the Beck acolytes who see no difference between the two parties.

The Progressives have successfully pushed the Dims to the left for years. We must do the same with the Republicans (that is to the right). When we are up against the rinos, we must lean hard. If they fail to please, they need to face a conservative in the primaries and get the boot. We must be the ones to draw the line in the sand. We must lead our leaders. This can and will work.

Are you with me? Or, are you for a third party? Frankly, if you are for a third party, let it be the Greens. At least you can help split the left.
