One of the stories coming out of CPAC this year is the embrace of the tea party movement not by the Republican Party, but by the conservative movement.
The issues of spending and smaller government are shared across the board.
But while conservatives are embracing the tea party movement, Republican Senators continue castigating tea party activists and hoping they shut up and go away. The latest is Senator Orin Hatch who is petrified that tea party activists might elect Mike Lee and defeat Bob Bennett in Utah.
The Hill reports:
Speaking to constituents at a town hall, Hatch warned Tea Partiers not to split the Republican Party.
“If we fractionalize the Republican Party, we are going to see more liberals elected,” Hatch said, according to the Salt Lake City Tribune.
This is in line with the GOP talking point that we who are here at CPAC should be perfectly fine with moderates. But we know that is not the case. In a state like Utah, we can legitimately move the state right by electing Mike Lee over Bob Bennett.
But Hatch gets even more disingenuous than that. Dan Riehl notes Orrin Hatch gets his history wrong. Hatch blames tea party activists for Slade Gordon’s defeat in Oregon. As Dan notes:
Not only did Hatch lecture people he’d better start listening to, instead - he didn’t have the slightest clue what he was talking about. The Tea Party movement didn’t even exist in 2008. It’s out of touch Republicans like Hatch, presumably living in some elitist echo chamber who can still snatch defeat from victory for the GOP in 2010 if no one fills them in. Based upon this nonsense, Hatch doesn’t seem to have a clue what’s going on at street level in America today.
If Conservatives win in Utah this year by beating Bob Bennett with Mike Lee, Orrin Hatch will be on notice to get with the program or shove it — a fitting taste of his own medicine.
Not counting the ones running, oops, I mean RETIRING.
Well Orrin, get out of the way and don’t fracture the party.
Too bad this turd isn’t up for election this year. His idiot friend Bennett is though. I hope Utah leads the troops against these two RINO’s.
2 six-year terms in the Senate
6 two-year terms in the House
2 four-year for POTUS (stays the same)
Plus we need a recall provision plus a vote of no confidence like other Parlimentary systems to keep the representatives in line and provide more disincentives to them for graft.
RINOs, the republican progressives, are obviously upset that the people are starting to push back and demand their party be put back on track
this story basically confirms that Orrin is a progressive

Two points to consider;
1.Mary Jo kept Teddy out of the Oval Office,so her death was not in vain.
2.Better believe that he’s paying a price now,and a severe one at that.
That is exactly WRONG. If we articulate what conservatism is, whether it be through more parties, existing ones, or fractions, more conservatives will be elected.
The title "Republican" is simply a verbal front, behind which any arrogant intractable body can hide.
Orrin Hatch is an example.
The title "Communist" is the converse of the same verbal deceit; a communist by any other title, is still a communist.
The Suntrade Institute has previously explained that verbal dependence is a shallow surrogate for genuine thought; Barack Obama, and a whole lot of politicians, being the ultimate example.

Would that be the same “temprament of CPAC attendees” that heckled and booed an invited speaker off the stage because they didn’t like his anti-gay message?
Since when do conservatives deny free speech to invited speakers that advocate a conservative position?
Sounds more like what liberal college students did to conservative speakers on campuses a few years ago.
Agreed, though I think repealing of the 17th Amendment should be explored.
As for the recall provision for other that gross misconduct, I think general recalls, votes of no confidence would just open a can of worms, 24/7/365 litigation.
The elections should be the remedies for that, after all, that's why we have them.

Since no one has said it, I will add some information. The CPAC straw poll means only that Paul and Romney brought their supporters with them for the sole purpose of voting the straw polls. They are mostly young people and they have to go to the candidate’s booth to vote. A lot of the older people, who know that the straw poll means nothing, will just sit it out. It’s a travesty that they even hold such a poll at CPAC.

During the last election a lot of FReepers were pushing Ron Paul. I didn’t know anything about the guy, but had the impression he was at least a bit looney.
I went to one of his gigs, and found a bunch of skinheads, white supremists, Nazis and dopers. I left and decided to stay far away.
Hopefully we'll have the base plus a huge majority of the indies that their 1-2% pull doesn't matter.
And then there is ACORN, Black Panthers, etc....gonna be a heck of an election!
Anybody who thinks Reagan was a failure is either very very young or not a conservative...since Paul is not very young it quite apparent he is NO conservative.

Sorry Orin, but Tea Partiers are more interesting in preserving the Constitution than preserving the Republican Party Establishment (which is nothing more than liberalism light).
Orin, this year it is RINO Bennett's turn to go. The next election will be your RINO swan song.
