As CPAC Convenes In Washington, Orrin Hatch Tells Tea Party Activists to Shove It
RedState.com ^ | 2-20-10 | Erick Erickson

One of the stories coming out of CPAC this year is the embrace of the tea party movement not by the Republican Party, but by the conservative movement.

The issues of spending and smaller government are shared across the board.

But while conservatives are embracing the tea party movement, Republican Senators continue castigating tea party activists and hoping they shut up and go away. The latest is Senator Orin Hatch who is petrified that tea party activists might elect Mike Lee and defeat Bob Bennett in Utah.

The Hill reports:

Speaking to constituents at a town hall, Hatch warned Tea Partiers not to split the Republican Party.

“If we fractionalize the Republican Party, we are going to see more liberals elected,” Hatch said, according to the Salt Lake City Tribune.

This is in line with the GOP talking point that we who are here at CPAC should be perfectly fine with moderates. But we know that is not the case. In a state like Utah, we can legitimately move the state right by electing Mike Lee over Bob Bennett.

But Hatch gets even more disingenuous than that. Dan Riehl notes Orrin Hatch gets his history wrong. Hatch blames tea party activists for Slade Gordon’s defeat in Oregon. As Dan notes:

Not only did Hatch lecture people he’d better start listening to, instead - he didn’t have the slightest clue what he was talking about. The Tea Party movement didn’t even exist in 2008. It’s out of touch Republicans like Hatch, presumably living in some elitist echo chamber who can still snatch defeat from victory for the GOP in 2010 if no one fills them in. Based upon this nonsense, Hatch doesn’t seem to have a clue what’s going on at street level in America today.

If Conservatives win in Utah this year by beating Bob Bennett with Mike Lee, Orrin Hatch will be on notice to get with the program or shove it — a fitting taste of his own medicine.

In an elitist, condescending tone that would do a George Will or a Peggy Noonan proud, Sen. Orrin Hatch (RINO, Utah) exposes his ignorance and arrogance. It is a tribute to the temprament of CPAC attendees that he is not now trying to remove rotten tomato stains from his tuxedo.

Well you know what, IF RON PAUL is the choice, I am bascially thinking the same thing. Ron Paul is so far past Conservative principles he is meeting the left on the other side.

How dare a few that went to CPAC choose RON PAUL as the candidate? With his mindset that 911 was a government caused event and attacked W for taking the War on Terror to the Terrorist on their own soil?

If Ron Paul is pushed, YOU and others can bet Obama will be in the White House for a second term.

This is exactly the kind of Republican Glenn Beck was talking about last night when he said that he has yet to hear a Republican stand up and say, “I’m the Republican Party and I’ve got a problem”.

Hatch is in denial, like so many Republicans. They think “we don’t need you... you need us”.

Well, this is a family-friendly website so I won’t post here my gut reaction to that kind of talk.

Senator Hatch better get with the program. He like anti-American, socialist, Barack “Hussein” Obama is tone deaf. When the young folks, brainwashed in the liberal,left-wing, socialist colleges and universities turn on Obama and his Democrat Party, as they are, the handwriting is on the wall!!!

Then I suggest you shape up.

You mean like your bestest friend and big toe, Ted Kennedy?

You didn't seem to have any problems with him.

Start anew. Defund/dismantle all collectives.

Sweep ALL out or let them ALL resign and go back to their families. They only understand power. It’s time to flex OUR muscle. The soap box doesn’t work. They control all of the amplification devices. It’s time for the ballot box. It’s peaceful. It’s powerful.

Sounds like RINO Orin is skeerd, and he should be.

The GOP better embrace the Tea Parties principles and return to the basic GOP platform or they'll go the way of the Whigs.

Orin has it bass ackward as usual, realize YOU are the problem Orin, face it or lose.

Orin has been in Washington so long that he thinks that he is entitled to make all decisions for us.

He's right, we need to stick together and blow out the liberals so we replace them with RINO's!

I am no fan of Orin Hatch, his senility supersedes his credibility.
However, Ron Paul so misrepresents conservatism that he improves the standing of the communist in chief. Either choice in 2012 would be the death of America, so if that’s the choice, there is no choice.

If Orin Hatch said that Slade Gordon was defeated in Oregon, he really has gone senile. Slade Gordon was a Washington State Senator.

There are a lot of Republican RINOS still trying to bring us into the fold instead of doing the right thing. We know they will change nothing; instead make it worse and they will go with the Demorats most of the time. Kick them out. The other fringes like the Paulbots need to learn to work with us instead of using bullying tatics to get their selfish agenda only.

I am sick of these pretend I am for the good of the country types who spew their agendas when they are no more for the country than Obama.

The real lovers of this country are the people who want whats right for America and there are many of us. These people need to get out of our way so we can accomplish this.

recent events would suggest otherwise. A wise sailer doesn't ask the changing winds to accomodate his sails, he adjusts his sails to accomodate the changing winds and if there's a storm coming his way, he might even change his course altogether.
