One of the stories coming out of CPAC this year is the embrace of the tea party movement not by the Republican Party, but by the conservative movement.
The issues of spending and smaller government are shared across the board.
But while conservatives are embracing the tea party movement, Republican Senators continue castigating tea party activists and hoping they shut up and go away. The latest is Senator Orin Hatch who is petrified that tea party activists might elect Mike Lee and defeat Bob Bennett in Utah.
The Hill reports:
Speaking to constituents at a town hall, Hatch warned Tea Partiers not to split the Republican Party.
If we fractionalize the Republican Party, we are going to see more liberals elected, Hatch said, according to the Salt Lake City Tribune.
This is in line with the GOP talking point that we who are here at CPAC should be perfectly fine with moderates. But we know that is not the case. In a state like Utah, we can legitimately move the state right by electing Mike Lee over Bob Bennett.
But Hatch gets even more disingenuous than that. Dan Riehl notes Orrin Hatch gets his history wrong. Hatch blames tea party activists for Slade Gordons defeat in Oregon. As Dan notes:
Not only did Hatch lecture people hed better start listening to, instead - he didnt have the slightest clue what he was talking about. The Tea Party movement didnt even exist in 2008. Its out of touch Republicans like Hatch, presumably living in some elitist echo chamber who can still snatch defeat from victory for the GOP in 2010 if no one fills them in. Based upon this nonsense, Hatch doesnt seem to have a clue whats going on at street level in America today.
If Conservatives win in Utah this year by beating Bob Bennett with Mike Lee, Orrin Hatch will be on notice to get with the program or shove it a fitting taste of his own medicine.
“This is in line with the GOP talking point that we who are here at CPAC should be perfectly fine with moderates.”
We’re “fine” with a moderate but a hell of a lot finer with a conservative.
RINO = Frying Pan
Liberal = Fire
Given that it’s Hatch, this isn’t a real shocker!!
He's been glued in the Senate for 33 freakin' years.
He started out like he would be the second coming of Barry Goldwater and a future icon in the pantheon of all-time great senatorial Republicans.
However, he went over to the dark side years ago. He turned into one of those very-familiar aging RINO establishment elites who stubbornly won't let go of their perceived right to rule over the masses.
Since his voters evidently perceive him as some kind of a religious holy man, he will probably shuffle off this mortal coil while still in office......just as did his bosom buddy, Teddy Kennedy.

That senile iron lather needs to be voted out of the Senate!!!
Hatch is just like the rest of the Senate/Congress... they truly believe they are entitled to that job. They have bought into the Lordship mentality.
Bout damn time someone woke them up.
They’re trying to label the plane dive guy as a domestic terrorist and
they interview TPer’s for their opinion?
Why TPer’s?
So they can connect them as one and the same?
What about the terrorist Bill Ayers and his other half
who is still running around after their admitted terrorist tirades?
And teaching, no less.
Forget RP getting the nod...isnt going to happen...
Orrin can suck it.
Buh Bye Nice knowin ya.
The only reason Ron Paul is attractive to
some is the fact he wants to legalize dope
and no wars. IMHO
Gives credence to setting on the couch and
playing with yourself.
Boy, I’m gonna catch hell on that statement. lol, no problem.
I think they chose Mitt Romney last time and you can see how that worked for him.
Indeed, I’d like to see term limits become part of the Tea Party Platform too.
What RINO(s) is in line to replace a liberal?
If the Republican Party responds correctly to the Tea Partiers, then the party will repair the splits that are already tearing apart the GOP.
The GOP is split wide open already. This is an attempt to fix it (or failing that to create a new one).
One of Orrin’s closest friends in the Senate was a lying, drunken philanderer who killed a woman and never paid a price for it. Orrin may not do these things himself, but he sure as heck countenanced them.
Remember that old African saying about if you sit by the edge of the river long enough then all of your enemies will eventually float by.Teddy, then Murtha-it’s been a good year to sit and watch....
LOL, I stand corrected. But “RON PAUL”? OMGOSH
They are coming but we need to vet them hard. I look for infiltration big time.
