Why I'm challenging Charlie Rangel
NY Post ^ | February 21, 2010 | REV. MICHEL FAULKNER

For the past 22 years, I have dedicated my life to serving my community as a New York City pastor and spiritual leader. I have counseled the suffering, married couples, helped the grieving, fed the hungry and have acted as a liaison between my community and the government. This week, I took what I believe to be the next logical step in that commitment — by announcing my candidacy to become the next member to the United States House of Representatives for the 15th Congressional District.

The system in Washington, DC, is broken at a time of enormous challenges and we need real-life solutions. Solutions that are based on the community’s input and welfare, not a federal government takeover. As I speak with the people of Northern Manhattan, it is clear that they have become apathetic about democracy. When people don’t trust democracy, they don’t vote — placing political leadership in the hands of those who use political power for their personal gain.

Folks, weigh in with your thoughts after reading his opinions.

It’s intriguing, that’s for damn sure.

Actually, that is correct.

Too bad her son (the dunce in chief) never paid attention.

We send billions to Wall Street but ignore the people that could lift themselves out of poverty, but for a few thousand dollars and LESS RED TAPE.

But, that doesn’t fit his goal of Marxism for all. The last thing this turkey wants to create is self-sufficient entrepreneurs, who might vote Republican.

Saw him a few days ago on Fox and really liked him - if it’s gonna be close, I would donate a little from out of state.

Wasn’t it a gentleman from India a few years ago who got the Nobel Peace Prize for microfinancing poor entrepreneurs in India?

I don’t think that saying the “system is broken” is referring to the system of government established by the founding fathers. Rather it is the apparatus of the bureaucracy that has evolved over time to serve the ever growing needs of an out of control “privileged class”.

Good question. And I don’t know. Perhaps some of our enterprising FReepers has knowledge of this?

It’s good stuff, seriously.

Btw, if you go to the link I posted earlier, you’ll come to realize that microfinancing is an excellent way to get a return on your money. It’s prolly safer than any of these bankster banks in this country. Their repayment rate is nearly 100% with very fair returns.

Problem is, most people never actually want their investment back. They get so hooked on the idea that they direct their investment to the next applicant on the list. :)

politics1.com — Faulkner is a Republican.
Interestingly, Adam Clayton Powell IV is challenging Rangel on the Dem side.

A good microfinancing organization is EndPoverty.org.

Muhammad Yunus won the 2006 Nobel Prize in Economics for his microfinancing. Here's a pretty good article about it.

By saying the system is broken, nobody gets the blame, do they? That is just ridiculous.
I say again, it’s not the system that needs to be fixed or replaced; it’s the people and a good place to start is to elect no incumbents. Not one.
